: ATLANTA -- The minister husband of evangelist and gospel singer Juanita Bynum turned himself in Friday morning to face charges that he beat her outside a hotel earlier this week.
Thomas W. Weeks III, known to his followers as Bishop Weeks, was accompanied by his lawyer when he surrendered at the Fulton County Jail, said Atlanta Police spokesman James Polite.
After a hearing at the jail, Weeks' bond was set at $40,000 and his case was referred for grand jury action. He was expected to be released on bond Friday afternoon.
The minister faces charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threats following a confrontation in which he left his estranged wife badly bruised, police said.
Officer Ronald Campbell said earlier this week that during an argument outside a hotel, Weeks choked Bynum, then "pushed her down to the ground and started to kick her and also stomp on her." A hotel employee intervened and pulled Weeks off of her, he said.
Bynum met with authorities Thursday to press the charges against Weeks. In a statement released by her publicist, Bynum said she was recovering from her injuries.
Bynum is a former hairdresser and flight attendant who became a Pentecostal evangelist, author and gospel singer. Her ministry blossomed after she preached at a singles event about breaking free of sexual promiscuity. Among her books are "No More Sheets: The Truth About Sex" and "Matters of the Heart."
Her album "A Piece of My Passion" had been listed in the top 10 gospel albums by Billboard magazine for several months. She also preaches through televised sermons.
Weeks is the founder of Global Destiny churches. The couple married in 2002. Together, they wrote "Teach Me How to Love You: The Beginnings."
I just wanna know why he beat her ***. I know it had to be for a good reason. The facts say that the man was trying to leave, she pursued him constantly screaming and nagging until he snapped. Now I do have common sense, And it looks to me as if dude was trying to leave a conflict. But with most black women in this country they ain't satisfied until they get their point across, regardless if they are in danger, so she was still trying to do that and oblviously provoked that man to hit her. Y'all can say what you want about this matter, but I think we know to look to God for the answer on this one. Man is always the head regardless. Did God say otherwise? And she is not a prophettess; That is straight blasphemy. Research the bible my people for the truth. Check out some of the Gospels for yourself. You will see that what the clergy are doing today has already been done in Jesus time. In the Book of Matthew Jesus told the pharisses, sadduces, and rabbi about themselves and how God didn't approve of the way they were leading his people. What is going on in our churches...there are so many stories lately about people of God snappin..the reason why he beat her down like that is because she confronted him about being *** and for a man in his position it pushed him over the edge. The Bishop and I am from the same place, DE, and believe me when I say he comes from a long line of smoke and mirrors..his father is 1 of the biggest *** in the preaching game today.
First, my sympathy to Juanita. Second, everything in the dark will come to light. BUT, and there is always a BUT....
Juanita Bynum (I didn't know it was her..she didn't look like herself) came to the gym that I attend in Ft. Washington, Maryland. I believe this was sometime late last year. I was on the treadmill with my headphones on, when all of a sudden, I noticed people rushing to the front desk. When I turned around to see what was going on, it was Juanita Bynum and another man (her personal trainer) arguing with the owners. So you know I got off the treadmill to be nosey and they were arguing because Juanita didn't feel as though she should pay for her personal trainer to use the facilities ($10 - and she personally flew him down from NY) to train her. It was extremely ugly, and to be honest, ever since then, I have lost all respect for her. She called the trainer every name in the book. Anyway, they were escorted out of the gym and asked not to return. However, she did call the next day to apologize...
I'm not saying she got what she deserved, but remember, there are THREE sides to a story. Her story, his story & then the truth.

She was doing PTL and living on the left coast and he was doing Global Destiny on the East...After being married they would get together @ 2-3 days a week and she would go on to PTL and he would come back to DC. Finally he *** down services at the Potters House and started spending more time with her....He eventually got on her nerve because he was asking for more of a church presence in her ministry and she decided his azz would hafta return to the Potters House in DC and they would keep up the 2-3 day thing. When he said he wasn't going back but setting up shop wit her....she was like....hail to da nah....Take yo azz back and i'll see you when my thang git tah itching and you can bring yo talented tongue. Then it started going down from there because he started getting more annoyed that her ministry was growing and all he ended up with was a wet tongue....No reason to beat dat azz but she wasn't hooking a bruvah up evah...

There is so much hypocrisy and phoniness going on in these churches, especially the Black churches. It's all a money market in the first place. I remember when I used to attend church regulary. There was so much stuff going on...people having *** in the prayer room, sleeping with each others husbands and wives, and doing it openly!!! Our Minister of music was got a girl in the soprano section pregnant, and his wife sang in the alto section! Served her *** right because she was married to the former MOM and was cheating with the new one. As soon as she married his ***, you see what she got in return. What goes around comes around! We had another assistant minister who was an ex-boxer. He was beating his wife's *** on the regular. Since he was a trained fighter, he knew where to hit her so the bruises didn't show. Quoting scriptures, speaking in tongues, and falling out before the congregation don't man ***. What's in you will come out. These people need to stop blaming a so-called devil for their ***. Church people are bad about looking down their noses at everyone else in the world while doing the same ***, if not worse! I have no use for them.
ZenLA... I was born and raised in the pentecostal church and I must say, everything that you just said is the EXACT reason I don't go to church right now. Being spirtual is one thing... going to a church where you don't know whats going on behind closed doors is a whole nother thing. People have to learn to put their faith and trust in God and not man. God will not fail or disappoint you, people do it all the time... this is a perfect example.
Remember, Jesus didn't establish his church in a building but within the people who listen and believed in him.
Today we measure the success of our minitries by huge congregations, immaculate structures, book sales, tape & cd sales, television & radio broadcasting, christian private schools, etc.
But our communities still suffer, while the church heads continue to build private utopias instead of taking our communities back.
All that money being pumped into the church could be pumped in our communities for change, to let the lost know "if you don't come to us, we will come to you", to show them to depend on God and not our elected officials to solve problems.
But the heads of our churches and not right. They have sold out for the all mighty dollar, they've become merchants within the church selling Jesus, who died willingly and of his free accord for our sakes.
Yet the church establishment wants us to march in every Sunday, pay tithes (money), and offerings (more money). Yes, the building operations cost must be met, yes the messages must be delivered to those unable to attend (books, radio, TV, CDs, etc). But their is a blurred line between serving the people and serving yourself.
For all these two have and for whatever happen to them one thing is clear, they are not right and have truly lost sight of God and his message.
Those of you on here that are true Christians, please pray them and the people in their congregations who are obviously hurt and disapointed in their leaders.
Do not judge these two as true Christians, pray for them and leave them in God's hand.

your sentence structure was so disjointed that you jumped all over the place without giving references as to what you where talking about. A new subject is started when it is the subject followed by a connecting predicate, verb, adverb, etc. You said nothing about the Mike B. show in your new sentence followed by a space. And then you came back to the original subject in your new sentence followed by a space. And again I stand by what I said. It's not my fault you can't either speak or write properly.

One of the rules of those streets is: if ANYONE threatens you body with an attack, a bytch slap should calm a woman. If that doesn't do it then take her to the hoops at any level she wants to meet. exactly aunt64... and jesus didn't go to church. he WAS a church, he preached to anyone and everyone wherever he went. I think this is a tricky debate because I have respect for the establishment of church, i think it is important for our community, as black people, and it is uplifting. I'm just saying that when things like this happen, so many people lose faith in God because of a mistake made by man... and that is really sad. It took me some time, but I've realized that if you put your faith in GOD and GOD alone you will never be led astray. We, as christians need to pray for Juanita and her husband. I really hope they come out of this situation ok. This is a blog, so I'm just stating my opinion and I can respect yours as well. I hope this all ends well for both of them, and if nothing else I hope someone learns from this situation.
I remember when I first watched No More ***. Juanita was on fire. Through the years she seemed to get arrogant. That's just my opinion. I remember someone told me that they went to one of her conferences.She asked everyone in the audience to give a certain amount of money. When people started to leave because they didn't have it. She made a comment about them never having anything because they weren't willing to give. That's why it's so important to look at God and not man. We are mere flesh and blood and we are going to fall. I am saddened that he did that to her. Of course, there are two sides to every story. She may have hit him first. I guess we will find out sooner or later.

I can tell you that I've never been to jail, nor prison and I've never even had to express that negative a position with most folks because I mostly get along with almost everyone I meet. That is also a decision I've made because my static is for keeps. I'm not a socialpath, psychopath nor neurotic of any sort. I just believe in equality and justice. There is nothing just in harming one's brother or sister. I believe in the Principals of Ma'at and that the world demands harmony and balance. They May quote one scripture and people think that they are of God. the Bible says you will know them by their fruit. People we are seeing what kind of fruit they are baring and they are the only one benefiting from it. The sad thing is that many are helping these people become monsters by buying their book, tapes and sending them money when you are not rich yourself. they continue to write these books and come on TV and the radio because people are buying what they are saying. so they keep producing their products. I don't know why some people are getting so upset. The Revs. Weeks & Bynum are both public figures. You live in the public eye, everything will be seen--eventually (good and bad). If you don't go to church for whatever reason, that is between you and God, but just remember that we are to be praising God and not people; so no actions of man should keep you from someone's church. i simply refuse to believe you are hopeless, it's evident that your too smart for that. I'll say this, when my husband opened his business it was i who supported him 100%, worked for free while at the same time work a full-time job and making it back home in time to help the kids with their homework. When it was time for me to open my business it was my husband who made breakfast in the morning and picked the kids up from school and help them with their homework. i didn't even know how to sign up for my tax id number let alone get a Dunn and Bradstreet number. At the end of the day we were there for each other, never jealous of the others sucess. today we maintain a healthy family. our educational expecations for our kids are no different from asians. my husband and i expect to see a majority of a's on their report cards and are willing to accept a few b's. it is not accpetable for them to bring any c's in this house what-so-ever. given the time we both put into our kids this is a realistic expectation. what we don't do is subscribe to the willie lynch mentality of trying to tear one another apart. that does no one good.
Last week I was watching a segment on House and Garden TV.. Its the show where people are shown selecting homes to buy.. This particular segment was this beautiful sisters looking for homes in Decatur Ga. (really Atlanta)...
She was looking into buying expensive beautiful homes and she had no mate to share her hapiness with...The real estate agent asked her twice about her situation and she proudly said this is going to be for my dog and myself and I want a place that MY FRIENDS is going to like...
No husband...Just a dog and some girlfriends... A beautiful sister of child bearing age who is alone and has made a conscious decision to remain alone and make her job her whole life...Running around chasing behind a *** dog...I felt so sorry for her...She was at least 40 years old and have wasted her whole fertile , child bearing years pursuing material wealth as the end all...

So i’ll move on to examples that are more representative of the masses as you say. Unlike a good number of men, most women do not have the luxury to go around screwing 3 or 4 different individuals due to having no self discipline. Look at P Diddy. He left that girl just after she gave birth to their 3 month old twins, just trifling. Are you telling me this is not a common problem with a good number of our men? Most women do not have the luxury of selling drugs without considering the consequences to the family. Do you mean to say that this is some how the black woman’s fault? you wanna talk about black women making it and leaving the black man behind? all you have to do is look no further than Tiki Barber with his conservative azz all up on fox news and friends and Charles Barkley, now that’s a real kick in the azz. Back to myself, I have and will continue to make contributions to my community. There is absolutely no reason why we can’t all get paid considering the tools that we have available. My contributories are of a personal nature and are heartfelt. I was raised to understand that to much is given, much is expected. I understand that it is my duty to give back to my community. I'm going to tell all of yhall that are beating this guy up. In ministry you live a very secret life and you can do what other do. I don’t think this guy is *** having met him for my self and talking with him. Juanita is a dominator is you look at them from when the first got married any time they were on TBN or the Word Network she always talked over him and he was made to look like a side kick. I knew then how their home was. I got saved in 1997 right when she took to the big stage and as a 14 year old newly saved boy I knew then her ministry was not great for women. She had this anti man type of preaching, this I don’t need a man and aint no man going to be running me. I watch this do two things in the church, it made women flock together thinking they don’t need men and the started experimenting ***, second it made women already in marriages mess theirs up. I saw countless women leave their husbands and men walk out on their wives because all the listening to Juanita and going to her conferences and getting their heads all filled up with this Juanita Gospel. I stop listening to her preach because I pointed out to one of my friends that didn’t believe me but she hardly ever quote scripture when she preaches. Now to all you Juanita lovers guess what Bishop Weeks got into her circle and he knows all her dirt and let me tell you she has plenty, that’s why he's going to fight because after he exposes her and all of the things he knows about her it will ruin her ministry. No more MEGAFEST and the big churches because they not going to let her in because of whets going to be released on her. To all of you who think this guy was broke you need to read on who his father is in the COGIC. She pushed this guy to a point and it’s a shame, he is very smart a great preach I hate to see that he wasted it on her. She has done great damage to the church today that’s why we have all these churches with the woman the pastor and her husband is the deacon or an elder. Woman that love her you should really search out her message it will leave you with a hen picked man that will let you run over him and he will have no ***. This woman is full of the modern day Jezebel Spirit and to those of you who say touch not Mine anointed well I have the office to touch them because im one of them. We need to really stop playing church, and that’s what this woman is doing its and industry or a business for them I know I write them checks when the come to my church it’s a shame what the church has become. Domestic violence is wrong and they both were wrong but I've met the both of them and let me tell you she is the most arrogant thing on the planet. I pray for both of them to really get saved.
