: This morning, MediaTakeOut.com spoke with an Interscope executive who claims that sales of 50 Cent’s Curtis has increased substantially in the last 24 hours. According to the exec, who asked to remain anonymous, Curtis is quickly catching up to Kanye West’s Graduation - and it may surpass it!!
The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, “Graduation had an extremely good first day and has since fallen off. Curtis, on the other hand, keeps getting stronger … I know that Kanye’s camp is already celebrating a victory, but the battle’s not over yet.”
And there may be some truth to what he’s saying. An Amazon.com insider told MediaTakeOut.com that sales of 50 Cent’s album are “stronger than we expected earlier in the week.”

Last fall in Jena, the day after two Black high school students sat beneath the "white tree" on their campus, nooses were hung from the tree. When the superintendent dismissed the nooses as a "prank," more Black students sat under the tree in protest. The District Attorney then came to the school accompanied by the town's police and demanded that the students end their protest, telling them, "I can be your best friend or your worst enemy... I can take away your lives with a stroke of my pen."
A series of white-on-black incidents of violence followed, and the DA did nothing. But when a white student was beaten up in a schoolyard fight, the DA responded by charging six black students with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
It's a story that reads like one from the Jim Crow era, when judges, lawyers and all-white juries used the justice system to keep blacks in "their place." But it's happening today. The families of these young men are fighting back, but the story has gotten minimal press. Together, we can make sure their story is told and that the Governor of Louisiana intervenes and provides justice for the Jena 6. It starts now. Please join me:

The noose-hanging incident and the DA's visit to the school set the stage for everything that followed. Racial tension escalated over the next couple of months, and on November 30, the main academic building of Jena High School was burned down in an unsolved fire. Later the same weekend, a black student was beaten up by white students at a party. The next day, black students at a convenience store were threatened by a young white man with a ***. They wrestled the gun from him and ran away. While no charges were filed against the white man, the students were later arrested for the theft of the gun.
That Monday at school, a white student, who had been a vocal supporter of the students who hung the nooses, taunted the black student who was beaten up at the off-campus party and allegedly called several black students "***." After lunch, he was knocked down, punched and kicked by black students. He was taken to the hospital, but was released and was well enough to go to a social event that evening.
Six Black Jena High students, Robert Bailey (17), Theo Shaw (17), Carwin Jones (18), Bryant Purvis (17), Mychal Bell (16) and an unidentified minor, were expelled from school, arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder. The first trial ended last month, and Mychal Bell, who has been in prison since December, was convicted of aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery (both felonies) by an all-white jury in a trial where his public defender called no witnesses. During his trial, Mychal's parents were ordered not to speak to the media and the court prohibited protests from taking place near the courtroom or where the judge could see them.
Mychal is scheduled to be sentenced on July 31st, and could go to jail for 22 years. Theo Shaw's trial is next. He will finally make bail this week.
The Jena Six are lucky to have parents and loved ones who are fighting tooth and nail to free them. They have been threatened but they are standing strong. We know that if the families have to go it alone, their sons will be a long time coming home. But if we act now, we can make a difference.
Join me in demanding that Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco get involved to make sure that justice is served for Mychal Bell, and that DA Reed Walters drop the charges against the 5 boys who have not yet gone to trial.

Kanye West has increased his lead over 50 Cent in the much scrutinized battle between the rap stars, according the Friday edition of Nielsen SoundScan's Building Charts.
Un-weighted sales from eight leading accounts through close of business yesterday (Sept. 13) show West's "Graduation" (Def Jam) increasing its lead over 50's "Curtis" (G-Unit/Interscope). The former now leads by 170,000 copies, compared to its margin of 127,000 on first-day sales.
West's newest posts 600,000 on the Friday chart, compared to 437,000 on the Wednesday Building Chart, which posted sales through Tuesday. The report also shows 50 Cent's set growing from 310,000 on the Wednesday chart to 430,000, while Kenny Chesney's "Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates" more than doubles from 107,000 to 232,000.

When I first heard about their contest, I started rootin for 50 just cause I dont like either of them really and I was pickin the lesser of 2 evils cause Kanye is just downright annoying and c.ocky. Each one has their positives. One one end, 50's beats are more danceable however they all sound the same. At least he uses fewer samples. All of his beats are .. BOOM ClackClack BOOM BOOM Clack BOOM ClackClack BOOM BOOM Clack... Candy shop, amusement park,etc. If it's not that format then its BOOM (handclap) Boom (handclap, In da club, fresh 83, etc. Hie beats are still good though.... its only when he begins to speak that I can no longer listen .. so usually I like to get the instrumentals.
Kanye has a basic format for songs that he NEVER strays from. His music is predictable. Every song features a sped up sample that is looped and forms the basis of the song. Kanye is not the first person to speed up a sample. Using someone elses music hardly counts as being creative. Creative is when you take basic sounds and make a bouquet of sound that is layered. As far as rapping Neither of them are THE BEST..... 50 is very limited and has run his course. He knows nothing but drugs, girls, guns, jail... etc ... there are only so many songs you can make about that before you reach the limit of your experience. So either he needs some new experiences to draw from or this is it .. and on Curtis, its the same ole thing.
I thing Graduation is the best from Kanye yet. It shows his growth as an atrists. We have to remember that he was a producer first then decided to don the rapper hat. His music reflects what he is good at ... arranging and producing ..... Lyrically neither of them posess the raw talent or eloquence of Rakim or the like.
then again .... what can you expect from Hip Hop .... when the first Popular record(rapper's Delight) was done over someone else's beat (Good Times - Chic) Almost every song since has used a sample of someone elses music that they created! It is an unoriginal music form and has it's place in the general scheme of the music kingdom ...

In the highly publicized sales battle between Kanye West and 50 Cent, West is still in the lead at the end of the first week.
In preliminary sales data issued today (September 14), West's 'Graduation' has sold approximately 600,000 copies, while 50 Cent's 'Curtis' 430,000 copies, according to Billboard.
The data was issued by SoundScan, who tracked sales at leading mass merchants throughout the US until close of business yesterday (September 13).
50 Cent's sales are lagging behind earlier projections: it was originally estimated that West would sell 575,000 to 700,000 copies, while 'Curtis' was expected to move 550,000 units.
Meanwhile, country star country star Kenny Chesney has not outsold either artist, as many thought would be the case. Chesney's 'Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates' has sold approximately 232,000 copies.
Final sales figures will be published on Wednesday (September 19).

Last week, I told you haters to watch Kanye's sales decrease after the first day. People might have rushed out and bought that graduation *** on 9/11 just bcuz they didn't want to see 50 win, but 50 has a real fan base....that will support him no matter what! Honestly, this whole thing is just a huge publicity stunt... cuz CD sales r down since every1 bootlegs off tha internet nowadayz, this is a great way to boost em back up. Props to their marketing ppl for makin every1 feel as if their purchase really means sumthin *** gettin off their lazy bums to go *** support one or tha other of these guys. So it really doesn't matter WHO's buyin em, cuz we all played into this grand marketing scheme...

This whole thing was a great publicity stunt, that worked in both artists favor. I am a Kanye West fan, so I bought his album, as I did the first two, but it wasn't as good as the first two, and I was a little dissapointed. It still has some substance, and I think there is an audience for that, and there is an audience for 50. But I support artists that I like, so I don't think I fell for scheme, this is the first album that I have purchased in months.
