just a thought folks - if you are a middle-aged african american (esp. women), the aids rate is growing the fastest within your age group. many women in their 40s-50s are becoming infected b/c they do not use condoms. many of these women have gone through menopause and feel the need to stop using protection because they are past childbearing age. note that while they were young adults, not much was known about aids/hiv and being infected was kept hush-hush so their attitudes/perceptions about the disease may differ from those who are younger. yes, condoms, etc. are a form of birth control, but more importantly, they are a form of disease prevention. pass on this info, talk to your moms, dads, friends etc. many of us, especially in this community, need to stop pretending this doesn't exist.

My take on this - I don't know. One thing I do know is that statistics show, that in my city alone, a little less than half of the African Americans have been tested HIV positive. That's very alarming to me, especially since we really only make up less than half of the city's entire population.

I think people should be very aware and understand that just because this disease is being talked about as often as others, it is still alive and kicking.

And with those statistics, 4 out of 10 people you sleep with is bound to have AIDS!!! That's scary as hell. And some people are so free to not use protection and some even still think that if you don't look like you have AIDS, then you don't have it.

A very close friend of mine has a best friend that has been married for 30 years. This guy was like an uncle to her children. Turns out he was sleeping around, with men, and gave AIDS to his wife. She just found out about a year ago.
