: The California Highway Patrol recommended Monday that actress-singer Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a freeway crash that killed a woman last month.
Patrol spokesman Leland Tang told reporters, “We know that Brandy’s at fault for the chain reaction of the collision … The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office recommends she be charged with a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.” This charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison.
Tang added that investigators found no evidence that Brandy was distracted at the moment she crashed into the back of the vehicle driven by 38-year-old married mother-of-one Awatef Aboudihaj. Aboudhaj later died from injures sustained in the accident.
The former ‘Moesha’ star was driving her 2007 Land Rover at 65 mph on Los Angeles’ 405 Freeway when she crashed into Aboudhaj’s 2005 Toyota (see pics of the accident below).
Representatives for Brandy have not yet commented on these developments.

I doubt thats the accident, look at that car, the roof is different in 3 of the 4 pictures.
The last one based on how crushed the roof it, the woman would have to be in there at this point, which it doenst look like.
She would have had to leave her vehicle there and based on the direction of how that car was it would have had to been right there in the pictures.
So i dont know what they are trying to say here.
Brandy's vehicle did hit the deceased woman's vehicle, however, it did not cause that woman's death. The vehicle was hit by two additional vehicles after Brandy's SUV (that's why the Land rover is not in the pictures). It appears that the third vehicle caused the woman's death. There is no report of Brandy being intoxicated or high on drugs. Like the thousands of car accidents that occur in America each year, this was simply a tragic accident, not a crime. Obviously Brandy will be found guilty at a CIVIL trial and will have to give up a good piece of money (her or her insurer). However, there is absolutely no basis for a criminal trial or even criminal charges. California Highway Patrol has to be re-trained and they can start by watching old episodes of CHIPS.
I think Brandy should take responsibility for this one, even when she was on "PUNK'D" she tried to use her fame to get out of the situation and that is not right. I hope she was not trying to do that this time especially when a life has been taken. She was not distracted, high or drunk SO WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM?, doesn't sound right to me, just because she SOOOOOOOO sober & undistracted is all the reason she should be punished for this crime.
It was an accident. But negligence like that, she should get charged with wreckless driving which is a misdemeanor. She'll probably pay some fines and have her insurance clean up what they can. Then she'll get sued by the Aboudihaj family and the other people may involved will try to sue but I doubt if they'll get anything besides a new car. I doubt if she will do time, it wasn't like she was under the influence of anything.
Brandy has openly apologized and has admitted she was at fault. This was an accident that could have happened to anyone and is only making headlines because Brandy is a star. I am not a Brandy fan at all but I feel horrible for her and the victims family. Knowing you were partly responsible for killing someone must be a real messed up feeling.
This is exactly what this lying *** heifer gets for being so phony and fake!! (Fake marriage, remember?) I hope she does get arrested and charged, cause if it was me or you, our *** would've been to jail, released on bail and *** sure waiting for trial!! When someone dies in a car crash, accident or not, somebody is ultimately responsible and that person is Brandy. The fact remains that if she had been paying attention, none of this would've happened. When you slam into someone at 65mph on a crowded freeway, that is NOT an accident! A rear-end accident is a no-brainer. She deserves some type of punishment and that's the bottom line.
What does her marriage have to do with this?? nothing!! She should spend time in jail because she didn't tell the truth about her marriage? come on. Ultimately by bringing up that fiasco in relation to this sad story it is inferred that she should go to jail. Sorry but neither has to do with the other. And no if she was the average jane no one would even be stressing jail. Or if it was some other child pop star grown up, justin timberlake maybe, no one would even be talking about it like this. I'm sure she feels bad enough already. It must be devastating. She wasn't drunk or high, and people yap on their cell phones, do their make up, comb thier hair, change a baby's diaper, dance in the car, everyday while driving and kill other folks and no one starts petitions for them to be in jail.
I agree with B-Esq. But I feel bad for all people involved. I heard that Brandy was crying nd stuff saying "Its my fault!!" I just hope she doesn't commit suicide or become a druggy over this [I say that bcuz she is the only blk person I HEARD of having an eating disorder] Hold your head up grllll!!!
To HopSkotchChic: I brought up the marriage because it is a reflection of her nature and character. After that, I was totally through with Brandy. But when you do wrong, karma is a *** and so you must pay in some way, shape or form. I don't wish anything bad on her, but she needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility like a grown adult. But oops, I forgot, when you tell mega lies, those aren't the actions of an adult!!! If she were, her *** would've been turned herself in and stepped up to the plate. They need to leave Brandy alone. She made a mistake. At least she wasn't drunk. I do admit she should have been speeding though. I said the same thing Hottie...at least she wasn't under the influence...she should do time but be put in a minimum security prison. But the law is the law and she must pay for her actions. If she were drunk she'd be facing life in prison. Plus suing for $50 million sounds like a financial motive.
