I understand where she is coming from, and I agree with some of her points, but as someone pointed out earlier...There is no way of "forgetting" what happened to us. I completely agree with her. If there was "White History Month" or White Entertainment Television, we would never hear the end of it.

I agree she's trying to cover her azz with this one, but still not making any sense. She is speaking about other races without fully understanding what we have gone through and what we are still going through. We do have Black History Month in February, we do take that time to recognize and celebrate our wonderful black heroes that helped make our world what it is today. We do that because the other 11 months of the year they are forgotten by most. We have special funds for us and other races because not everyone feels we are all equal... and that's just real. I'm sorry but this girl's views are idealistic and right now just not possible, but she is entitled to them, even though she sounds like a ignorant simpleton.

As for the White Entertainment Television and other similar comments... what do you think most of these channels are. cbs, nbc, abc, fox... programming on these channels are predominantly "white" casted shows and have been forever. It saddens me to see people agree with what she is saying. YES, we should like in harmony but in reality we can not. When they had American Band Stand where blacks where not allowed. We again had to fight for Soul train. MTV did not have any "BLACK" artist on their show that is how BET came along. People please do not be decieved. Racism is high and rapid in the year 2007.

Look at all the popular show on TV that do not have black people on it. Let's see...Seinfield, Friends, Will and Grace and I can go on and on. Black show is 10% to 90% white.

I think that if she was married to a black man, she would be singing a different tune. She would be screaming black history month is too *** and too cold. Our ancestors been through too much and for too long to not be acknowledge. Black History month should be celebrated in America. We didn't ask to come here. When slavery was abolished, blacks were given the chance to go back to Africa but, why should we. This was our land to by then. All of a sudden you can go now after tilling all the land and all the picking cotton. Making America the great country that it is now after being beaten, raped, hung and whatever else. Please, I don't think so. Whites were very selfish and alot of them still is. And, because we wouldn't leave, another bunch had to go through. Malcolm X, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King (to name a few). King did it with gentle love. Preaching, teaching, boycotting while getting beat, hosed down, threaten and eventually killed.

Black history month was very well deserved. It IS American History but, it will always be Black American History first.

I know while going to high school, my American History books did not mention much about Black History. There was only a few inserts and people mentioned. Of course, King was always mentioned because he was the most obvious but black history is far more than King. King was only one man but millions of blacks was going through, mentioned and unmentioned. He was sent here to help his people and many others. He was not a racist either, he wanted all races and colors to come together to. Unfortunately, I don't feel it will ever be here in this lifetime. Those books didn't mention who really invented the stop light or talk about who really discovered America and how America got it's name. Maybe now but, surely not then and I'm not old. If it wasn't for Black History Month and the schools was forced to make the students read up on it, then I would'nt know the little that I do. I don't feel as if I could possibly know it all. I most diffently agree with her that there should be an Indian History Month throughout America because just like most African Americans, I have Indian Ancestry to and I am intrigued by their history as well. So, all in all, I feel every race should have a time slot as well, so that their children and others could learn about their history in-depth. America is a big melting pot of different cultures. This chick likes to debate, then debate away. But, just because we're in America and it's the land of freedom of speech and opinion, it doesn't give you the right to get a greatly deserved benefaction taken away from a well deserved group of people just because your Jewish husband doesn't care about what happened to his ancestors. I don't gripe about the past events. It does keep me grounded though and maybe if you he cared about his family history more, then maybe he would've made a better decision than marrying her.

Well first off let's be clear Black History Week (initially) came into existence because of white racism and segregation. It was a tool used to teach Black Americans their true value and worth as a member of society and the world. Africa is the cradle of mankind. That information was not available in the American school system. Whites and Blacks were taught that Black people never did anything worthy. Ms. Black America came into existence because Ms. America would not have Black participants (White beauty was the standard) Black is beautiful came about when the Panther Party coined the phase. Regardless of what this very young and ignorant woman has said is even more proof of the need to stay on top of our history and place in American society and the world. IF SHE had any real understanding she would be out there schooling some white racist which I am sure she knows a few. Even if she doesn't agree with their thoughts. I have always been a strong believer in Black folks have to stand up and represent our ANCESTORS in the best light. I also believe if white folks want to see a change in this society they have to stand up and fight racism in their communities as we have to fight it in our communities. Racism is something my great grandparents, grandparents, parents, myself and my children experience. "Getting over" is a very simplistic and equally ignorant response to a problem that is embedded in American society. Did she forget that slavery prevented people from owning property, or even inheriting that property when the owner died. Did she forget that even if a slave built something, it wasn't their to keep? What do you pay the builders of Wall St.? Did she forget that 400 years of free labor put slave owners family on an economic level that the slave who actually did the work have not be able to match without being "super-negro" while the master's descendents just had to maintain staus quo. She mentioned her blue collar background. She came from a working family. So did the slaves but their was no union protecting their wages, or making sure they had sick days when they were too ill to work. History isn't this child's forte. Stick to putting those clothes on but take a page from Tyra's book (fatsuit)put on that make-up that makes you look like a Black woman and tackle America from that angle and then speak. Otherwise, you are the very reason race issues in America are as bad as they are, because people like her only serve to anger people unneccessarily and polarize folks instead of uniting the races before hate destroys us all.

For you to have a nerve to take such a profane tone when speaking on a topic such as this shows your ignorance right away. You obviously don't know too much about Black history if you seperate African history from African American history. Who are you to make this seperation when some "African Americans" consider themselves Africans. If you study human hisory or even watch the news occasionally you would discover that all men and women are somehow genetically linked to Africa...Yes. Thus, to study Black history is to study your own history. So, in a way, you are seperating Black and White just from making those comments about Black history month. Also, racism is very prevalent right here in America today. It is not only prevalent in other parts of the world. Racism is a reality that Black people are reminded of every day. We are still undergoing the process of slavery even though it was "abolished" in the 19th century. You seem to think that since you were not rich coming up, you have something in common with us. Well, this shows ignorance also. There are many black people who were raised with plenty of money who still have to endure the harsh realities of racism and ignorance. The reality is White people celebrate their history all year. In fact, in many ways it is embedded in Black culture. After eight months of talking about George Washington, Christopher Columbus, and Theodore Roosevelt, I don't think it is unfair to dedicate a month to Frederick Douglas, Martin Luther King and Malcom X. You are taking the stance of White supremists. Black on Black crime is another sign that perhaps instead of one month of Black history, an entire year is needed.I appreciate your honesty, but you show ignorance in the process. Some advice for you is analyze and study your topic before coming to such a quick and ignorant conclusion. If you need further clarification read some books or ask questions before speaking.

I need to retract one thing. All though I feel that every race should have their own history time slot, I do not feel that whites should. Not at all. Not in America. You do have it all year long anyways. American History is your time as well as ours.

I also feel that no white person should put their mouth on any other races history and privileges. They do not have the right. White American’s celebrate and acknowledge their history and achievements everyday while routinely glossing over the history and achievements of non-whites because of the atrocities that where committed during the formation of this nation and its culture. IF Adrianne and people like her want to “get over it,” they must begin with accepting the reality of “how” this nation came into existence. for those of you who didn't learn about black history until you were in school, and even worse, in college, should blame your parents. and that is REAL. self-love, love for your culture and heritage begins in the home. do u think jewish children are only exposed to the holocaust in their schools? I agree that learning starts from home. As for my home life, my parents taught me what they could. What they knew and lived through themselves. But, to depend on home alone is limiting your resources. Of course, you learn about your family history down to a certain point. Your parents cannot possibly know everything. Not even their own history, and for your parent to grow up without a parent, there's a big void.

When black history started to become popular was when my parents started to learn new things that they never knew. Especially, my mother. She'll come home and be like "Did you know this, or, Did you know that." She was so intrigued that it made me interested because she would tell me things I never knew nor did she. That's when the different books and movies started to come into play. It is very important to take time out to learn about your history. Culturally and personally.

Well I'm glad a few people in here have some sense. In case you have forgotten, the Civil Rights Movement ended in 1968 which was barely 39 years ago. #1 Not refering to any specific period of time - a day, a month hell - a year...that's beside the point! As many have pointed out, there is Asian month, Hispanic Heritage month, etc. There are also specific channels designated for different cultures and languages. This isn't about having some personal time.

#2 - The point is that an entire culture was challenged to forget the horrific crimes against them - with disregard to receiving the full recompense which have been made to others in similar situations. Would you ask a Jewish person to forget the holocaust? (maybe you have - there are some who have tried), would you ask the Native Americans to forget that their land has been occupied? (Naw, you just force them onto reservations and hope that they no longer have the will to do something about it.) How can you even look in the mirror - to even think about asking someone to forget, "get over", obscure their past is yet another psychological ploy. But then again, you knew that didn't you - OR do you not realize that remembering, commemorating progress and celebrating triumph are not synonymous being stuck? People remember - and people progress. Don't tell a whole culture to forget how history has and continues to shape them!!

People are talking about how they cant forget what happened to them in slavery days like they were there, its your ancestors plight not yours, none of you people( including me) should dare talk about the struggle because we have no idea what they went through, she is right about Black History month being racist for two reasons, 1 its only one month to celebrate the thousands of great things done by african americans which really cant be celebrated in a lifetime, 2 the more you label something as black or white or whatever the more you dumb *** support jim crow laws by upholdkng segregation....think about what the word segregate means and understand that they gave you these Black labeled celebrations so you can segregate yourselves without even knowing it, she said nothing wrong.....i just wish it was a black woman saying these things to see if she would get the same reaction, and fyi i am a black man.
