: Last year Jay Z boycotted Cristal when its CEO was caught making racist comments. But MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Jay-Z is now faced with a tougher question. Will he boycott his own team, the New Jersey Nets, for taking money from a bank that built its fortune on the backs of slaves? The team recently announced that its new arena in Brooklyn, Jay-Z\'s hometown, would be called the Barclays Center. The arena will be named after UK-based Barclays Bank, which paid $400 million for the naming rights. But immediately after the deal was announced, local politicians came forward to blast it. That’s because Barclay’s Bank made its fortune by financing the slave trade in the 18th century. The UK bank was also involved in controversial dealings with the South African government during the apartheid era. NY Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries was one of the first to lead the charge against the deal. According to the Assemblyman, the agreement with Barclay’s is \"insensitive and offensive.\" And he added, \"All options should be on the table, including terminating this deal.\" Jay-Z, who owns less than one percent of the team, has declined to comment on this matter. His reps say that there would be no statement given or action taken by the rapper.
