: MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy has pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and been sentenced to three-and-a-half years behind bars.
The G-Unit rapper, whose real name is Albert Johnson -- was indicted on one charge of gun possession at Manhattan Supreme Court in New York on Tuesday.
The charge relates to Johnson's arrest last October, when New York cops pulled him over for making an illegal u-turn. A search of the car turned up an unlicensed .22-caliber pistol.
The 32-year-old initially claimed he didn't own the weapon, which was found in the compartment between his driver's seat and the front passenger seat, where hip-hop producer The Alchemist was sitting.
But midway through trial proceedings, Prodigy confessed to ownership of the gun and struck a deal with prosecutors. The agreement limited his jail term to just three-and-a-half years instead of the 15 years Prodigy, who faced his third gun charge, would likely receive.
I have to say one thing I always supported them cause when they first came out I was excited to hear someone my age telling how it is in the hood but it get to a point everyone has to grow up. Give me a little of what they have you would never see me in the hood unless it is to support some needy children in the neighborhood. Hold your head up baby bro. Peace Brooklyn forever!
This is upsetting because Prodigy is one of the best rappers from New York. He never stepped his game up still spittin' gun talk. That's what has made a lot of New York rap very boring as of late. Known for the most exquisite lyricism and wordplay, New York rappers got more to offer than talking about robbing and *** nayas. The Jay Z diss was detrimental but they survived that. The True Life ordeal was a motherfreakin' tko for them nayas. Nas had to raise up out of just talking about the streets. Albert should have been described life in other parts of the world in his rhymes or at least express the desirability of living in Queensbridge.
