I can't agree with that and I did grow up without a father. Just for one example, take a look at any one of these documentaries or books on gang violence and most of these guys attribute their involvement in gangs due to the fact that they had no positive male role models in their lives. They also say they wanted the cohesiveness that they didn't have at home. How is a single mom expected to teach a boy how to be a man when she is also trying to work one or two jobs trying to provide on her own? Don't get me wrong, there are many women that have been able to raise a good man, but a heavier burden is put on the woman when no father is around.

First, let me start by saying, you don't necessarily join a gang because you think you are a failure but let's touch on what you said about feeling as if you are the reason your father walked out on you. C, it's a child, they aren't old enough to understand the complexities of a male/female relationship so how could you think it is there fault when then they are targeted by older men in gangs. Of course they will look at them as if they are father figures, because the real father figure is no longer at home. Like I said, one of the most common reason for young men and women to join a gang is because they do not have a cohesive family unit.
