: Today Show host Al Roker was one of the first public figures to call for Don Imus to be fired for his racially insensitive comments. He's also been outspoken critic of hip hop artists who use the N Word. But MediaTakeOut.com has learned that privately Al Roker is a lot more accepting of racially insensitive remarks - especially when the people making them are his friends.
On Friday, the Friar's Club in New York City sponsored a roast of comedian Pat Cooper - with Al Roker a guest of honor. And during the roast, MediaTakeOut.com spies were shocked when comedians began openly used the N word.
But there's more. Not only did Al, who sat on the head table during the roast, condone his pals' use the N Word - he actually enjoyed it. According to an attendee at Friday's roast, Al Roker laughed uncontrollably when the comedians used the dreaded word. The witness told MediaTakeout.com, "[Comedians] Gilbert Gotfried, Pat Cooper, and Lisa Lampenella repeatedly used the N word ... and every time they did, Al Roker seemed to laugh harder and harder."
And another attendee was equally disgusted with Al Roker's blatant hypocrisy. That onlooker told MediaTakeOut.com, "White [comedians] were using the dreaded 'N word' and [Al] just sat there and laughed. He showed his true character."

That is the major problem with some black folks. They so quick to "fit" in, not offend people, networking to make more money or whatever that they over look stupid foolishness like that. I know the Friar's Club Roast is a long time tradition of a no-holds-barred event for comedians to fully express themselves without fear of cameras when they "roast" the honoree. In other words the event is kept private from the public.
That said, Al is an inteligent man and knew full well what to expect being invited. He knows its a "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" event. He is also aware of the racial hate crimes plaguing our nation. He knows full well of the comedian Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld) repeated outburst of the N-word. I'm sure Al spoke out against that along with the nooses being openly found around the our nation.
Al could have said a lot by quietly dismissing himself after hearing the first N-word being used. That would have showed dignity on his part regardless of the "harmless" jestering going on. It would have showed his solidarity on use of this word. I know other racist words were used to describe other nationals and if those were not offended that is on them.
But this is also another example of why "us" have to stop reffering to ourselves as N*iggers. I never heard a white person refer to themselves as "[EXPLETIVE]", or Italians calling themselves "grease balls". We are the only race that does this, no wonder everyone else thinks it is okay to call us this...even in jest.

Reading this makes me think of how tired I am of the "n-word". We have such a rich history of racial slurs used to demean us, why do we just focus on reclaiming that one word? I for one want to bring the word Jigaboo back. And porch monkey and tar baby also have a good ring to them. We can spell them porch monkay and tar bay bay just so the white folks know there's a difference between when we say it and when they say it. (We don't have to stop with the ones I suggested. There's also coon, darkie, pickaninny, and spook. We should just start adding into everyday conversation. Seriously. The next time you see a friend, just scream out "What's up my coon!")

I'm also black, and to hear this word being used has really gotten on my last nerve. What I realized is that most people that uses this word has no idea what it really means. What they also don't realize is that they're the ones who are actually acting like the word they're using. So before anybody decides to use that word ESPECIALLY WHITE PEOPLE know the meaning behind it and my ancestors.
