: MediaTakeOut.com got its hands on pics from yesterday's mtvU Awards showcase. Hip hop needs our prayers...
ok obviously nobody actually listened to lupe's album to say something like that...duhh everybody knows its the majority pop rap that sells the most these days...and as for the rest of these people i haven't heard them but we can't make judgement because they're not all over the radio...i mean *** yung joc and plies are on the radio does that make them the "leaders of the new school"??
Other than Lupe and Spank Rock, I dont know the others....
Still, i'm not going to dismiss it...Just because they are not up there looking like a bunch of thugs just out of prison doesnt mean they can't rhyme....The whole gangsta thing is so far played out I think people are just more open to a different image.
the future of hip hop looks real "how you doin". them corny *** *** up there is on some retro 80's type ***. quit tryna bring back the 80's & come up on some new *** ya'll. & them 2 *** with the book in the wine-who they supposed to be? a *** version of farnzworth & a geeked out kanye? this is some *** ass *** right here.
Lupe is probably one of the ONLY bright young stars in Hip Hop right now. He doesn't attain much commercial success but thats a no brainer in a world where critics give props to the likes of *** like soulja boy, and hurricane chris. Them clowns get 20 spins an hour and Lupe with his sick lyrical ability gets ...none. The writers at MTO suck so bad. I swear I just come here to get laughs at what these idiots will post next. They are the equivelant of The National Enquierer!
in a devils advocate sort of way.....Someone mentioned Plies. I actually like Plies. His lyrical ability is seriously in question but what he lacks in that he makes up for with heart. He got one of those albums where it actually seems like he MEANS what he says. He got the hood on lock right now. Kinda like TI used to be back with Rubberband Man before he let hollywood turn him ***. Plies seem like he's not a studio gangsta but a straight up street dude with a deal. That *** "***" is the worst song on the album.
Lupe Fiasco's Cd is in my cd case with must rides. I am a huge rap fan and I love his Cd. Black people are so afraid of change. Lupe was not rapping about the usual slinging, blinging, and **tches so no one bought the cd. In turn the record company did not promote it and release many singles and of course radio did not play it. He is a very talented rapper and possesses a lot of what new school rap is missing, substance. Half the people who though he cd was trash have not even heard but the two release singles. Diffiently worth the buy. But alas there is some hope for hip hop. Alicia Keys, great concept with her tw0 new releases. Very different. Mary must love her new song and as much as I hate to say it Kanye's CD is bangin. Dude is a genius. Such a fresh look; innovative
I think 2008 is going to bring about a lot changes in hip hop and Black America!
MTO..your ghetto *** are always calling other people ghetto, yet you know nothing about being unique and branching out..freaking ghetto mentality..Lupe is a great artist..he doesnt fit in any specific mold so no one knew how to market him..I honestly thought he was going to do a little better with album sales, but thats something you could never predict..I like him, hes talented, different and a true artist..yall just mad because hes not beating on a woman, getting arrested for gun charges, or has a secret baby stored away somewhere

MTO, *** the F*** up. I personally don't know who these other guys are,but there is NO reason to talk bad about Lupe Fiasco. You guys sound EXTREMELY ignorant hating on him when he's one of the few people trying to actually bring hip-hop back. It's obvious none of you have even heard is album.... ===========================================
Lupe Fiasco got in trouble last month for dissing A Tribe Called Quest. A lot of trouble. Look it up on the internet -- lot of folks shaking their heads over Lupe's idiocy. May have been a misunderstanding (and that's why he was suing VIBE for defamation of character), but Lupe *did* compound it. All he had to do was apologize for forgetting the words to the song he was doing in tribute, instead of pulling the 'Never heard of them -- I preferred MC Hammer' thing; rather then painting himself into a corner his mouth couldn't get him out of.
As for 'who are these people'.. if Lupe's involved, then they're probably so-called backpack rappers, the kind of folks the college white kids listen to while sticking their noses up at the streets for not being 'educated'. But who knows. Maybe they do have a lot to offer.
I don't think so, at least not to blacks, if they're running around with white back up dancers in bikinis instead of Nubian princesses. That's not aimed to black folks.
danae........ I am not a big fan of the "backpackers". But I do like lupe. He said that he didn't even know why they asked him in the first place to pay tribute because he was never a fan. He said he told the producers that up fron but theybegged him to do it anyway because he fit the stereotype of a tribe fan. He messed up on some words to their song and people got all mad at him. So he *** back with basically f' all yall that don't like it. I never liked tribe so be it. He said he was not apologizing because they amounted to hip-hops elite and he was condemed for not feeling them. Also Tribe def woulda been considered "the backpack" hip hop of their day. So although I don't feel too much of the music it's a blanket statement to say they that they offer little to "blacks". We all dont get down on the same things.
pooh9 is completely right and I've been saying the same thing. Hip-hop has been on life support because artists are becoming puppets. I'm a legit rapper and I say whats in my heart not what the radio will play or what labels tell me I need to. Everyone out there who thinks money or album sales reflect how talented someone is needs to check out William Hung's platinum album. While your at it why don't you spend $20 on a pet rock!!!! I hear those were really popular and sold a ton too.
hip hop is alot of thing..not jus gansta rap...Yall remeber Kid *** Play, Fusnickins, LONS, Jungles brothas saltn pepa... Hip hop was so fun back then. Media only promotes one kind of hip hop which intern promotes only one perception of black people...when i was little...born in 79....u had all types of hip hop...go to youtube and look up kid and play gettin funky or ola ola ahh or scenero or express urself
