: Looks like Gabrielle Union and Queen Latifah's new movie Perfect Holiday is turning out to be a HUGE box office flop. Movie insiders tell MediaTakeOut.com that the film is expected to bring in less than $2M this weekend. Contrast that with the $27M that This Christmas brought in just a few weeks ago.
To make matter worse, Perfect Holiday didn't even beat This Christmas this weekend. The 3 week old movie is expected to bring in close to $3M.
Gee ... we wonder how much more successful Perfect Holiday would have been if we, and the other Black blogs out there, would have promoted it as hard as we did This Christmas?

Unfortunately, it's just not a good movie. Whether or not Black blogs supported it, it's more word of mouth that did it in. "This Christmas" was simply a better movie, but it was just okay as well. After "Why Did We Get Married?" both were rather disappointing. But "The Great Debaters" is an EXCELLENT movie and it's coming out soon so that should make up for "Perfect" and "Christmas."

"Perfect Holiday" flopped because it sucked. NO ONE I know (including myself) that saw it, liked it. NOBODY. And as for Gabrielle Union, she's as wooden as a 2x4 on camera. She's simply not a good actress, has nothing to do with her skin tone. She's very pretty which, IMHO, is the only reason why she gets these roles.

But anyway, when I saw the previews for this movie, I just wasn't moved to see it. I had already decided what movies I wanted to check out this holiday season, and that wasn't one of them. I saw "Why Did I Get Married", "American Gangster", "This Christmas" and "I Am Legend" in the past two months and I enjoyed all of them.
Nothing against Gabby, but to me she just comes off as being a bit too full of herself and reading that little tidbit about how she felt about what people were saying about her on blogs just confirmed it for me....as if she is immune from being gossiped about.
I agree with most of what yall are saying here, that you see the same people showing up in the same types of movies over and over again and after a while it's like overkill. You get sick of it. That's probably what happened with "Perfect Christmas", but as for me, I just didn't feel like it was a "must see".
I will be glad when our beautiful and talented black actors/actresses stop accepting these scripts for these "cliche" black films. They allow themselves to be put in the "black actors recycle bin" and accept these roles that put them in a box and do not challenge them. And if I see Gabrielle Union play the same stuck-up, all work and no play hard-nose that seriously needs to get her some one more time, I think I'm gonna scream! She played the same way in "Deliver Us From Eva", "Daddy's Little Girls", and probably countless other ones!
I said all that to say this, "Perfect Holiday" has been done before-we have the same recycled actors/actresses and the same plots and story-lines that have been reheated and served to us again. I hope our black entertainers stop playing into the white industry's hands and stop allowing themselves to be type-cast just to be in a movie. Now don't get me wrong, I will always go out and support these black films, because if we don't, who will? But I just long for the time when there will be a positive ***/change in the kind of roles our black entertainers accept. Much love to all of our actors though-I can't knock their hustle.
Let's get some facts straight about a film being a flop and not a flop. If the total box office take is not greater than the total cost (production and advertising), then the film is a flop. According to this web address at Boxofficemojo.com :[link to external website removed] a production budget of $13M and advertising costs being low to put the total cost at around $15M, the movie already made its money back on its opening weekend and this week's take would put it at $46.2M which would be 3 times the total cost. A movie that makes 3 times its total cost in the box office would not make the film a flop like some people would like to post some misinformation without doing any research at sites like Boxofficemojo.com.
With I am Legend making big bucks on its opening weekend, the main reason why it made so much money was because the Dark *** trailer was being played on the same screen and everybody knows that when you play a trailer to the most anticipated film of the year on the same screen as another movie, you would get lot of people going to see that film based on the trailer. It's too bad that they did not want to wait until Monday at 8AM EST to see it for free at their official website or go to another website where they have it from someone taping it before I am Legend came on.
I made the mistake of doing This Christmas with The Perfect Holiday. The budget of The Perfect Hioliday is ***/A and due to it being released on the same week as some other films with the Dark *** trailer advantage of a copy of Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price, Perfect Holiday would be lost in the shuffle. The studio that put The Perfect Holiday out assume that they could get the same type of business with using the same stars from Breakin All the Rules and using the same material from Tyler Perry films.

Well before you look at the total number, you gotta consider that Perfect Holiday is only playing on about 1300 screens...This Christmas is still playing 1900 and when it opened, it was available on 1800. PLUS This Christmas opened on a holiday wknd and didn't face the competition of TWO major opening releases in I AM LEGEND and ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS.

For the record I'm not a Gabrielle "Stan" but since everyone was bashing her, I figured I'd got against the grain! People need to take a look at Gabby's filmography, I think she's very well rounded as an actress. She kinda started out playing small roles on predominately all white shows/ films ie. Bring it On, Saved by the Bell, 10 Things I Hate About You and the first black love interest on Friends. The way I see it, is when she was tired of doing majority films and putting on a fake smile to pay the bills, she started working on majority black films. As far as her education goes, she graduated college with honors, so you guys need to respect mind when she says whites support their own and black don't! And the way this thread has played out, I think she's obviously right.
