On June 5, 2002, chart-topping rhythm and blues singer R. Kelly was arrested on charges of producing child pornography. The charges were based on a videotape he allegedly made with an under-age girl that subsequently become a bootleg best-seller on street corners. The tape was made at Kelly's luxurious Chicago apartment sometime between 1997 and when the newspaper obtained its copy, a grand jury indictment said. Kelly was arrested in Florida's Polk County a few hours after authorities issued a nationwide warrant for him. He was being held on $750,000 bond, a spokeswoman for the Polk County Sheriff's Office said. Kelly's lawyer, Edward Genson, said the girl on the tape was not under-age, and that Kelly would plead not guilty. Cook County State's Attorney Richard Devine said that the indictment produced by a grand jury consisted of 21 counts of videotaping, producing or soliciting for child pornography. Kelly has been sued several times by women who said they were underage when he had *** with them. Kelly told an interviewer on Black Entertainment Network television in May that he was no monster. He said "If people out there have a tape of me and they're saying it's me and a young girl, a minor ... then they're sadly mistaken or they're lying. I can say with all confidence it's not me." If that was my daughter, and I found out that she slept with R.Kelly and she got treated like a dirty ***. Of course I would be upset, and disappointed at her actions, but then again she was aware of what she was doing. I would try to get him prosecuted. At some point, we've got to realize that R.Kelly is only doing what the judicial system is allowing him to do. If they can convict Mike Vick for killing dogs in a timely manner, then R. Kelly should have been imprisoned years ago if it really mattered to them. I'm not one to play the race card, but if that would have been a little caucasion girl in that video, Kels would have been locked up a long time ago. But, obviously, since she was Afro-American, it's not high on their list of priorities to see him conviced. That's just an opinion of mind...

Who didn't see the video? We all saw it, or at least every one in the community did. But did we stop supporting him . . . NOPE!!! Even when I swore I wouldn't contribute another penny of my money to this pathetic contributor to society, I purchased tickets to his show, but that was the final straw and the real icebreaker for me. R. Kelley was blessed with incredible talent, but I'm convinced that something is not quite right with this man. After seeing him live I'm certain he's not all there, but that's neither here nor there. If we support him, we're supporting his habits and that includes the habit we all witnessed on video. This man needs to be in treatment for whatever it is that is ailing him, and performing an exorcism wouldn't be such a bad idea either, cause there are definately some demons riding him.
