Akon's Family in Senegal is said that does not have food to eat as I write now. They depend on government grants and food subsidies. Akon doesn't give a damn -he stays in 5 star hotels when he is in Africa. He continues leaving large even though his family walks barefoot with no shoes....Now that's sad...
How do any of us readers know that this story is real?
I don't understand how this is the kind of stuff for which this website is said to be so powerful in the black community.
No proof, no pictures, no substantiation. Nothing but an accusation, with absolutely nothing to back it up.
Why do the readers on this site put up with this?
I don't believe this one. Akon donates a significant amount of money to senegal and other reputable orginizations in Africa. Why would he ignore his own family. something just does'nt sound right. You can't just come on here and make stupid allegations to bring another man down. People will actualy believe this type of nonsense.
First of all I wouldn't believe this even if I saw a picture. I have friends in(and a family member that relocated to) Senegal. This is a very progressive country. Dakar (the capital)is like a little New York---skyscrapers, mass transit, universities etc. Unless his family lives in the deep country areas of Senegal, people may walk without shoes because they CHOOSE do or are just homeless like some folks are here in the US. On the other hand, these relatives may just be trifling folks that are distant cousins that he is not aware of....

The confused, war-torned Middle East is quite different from the cradle of civilization, Africa....So dont get it TWISTED. What you do there in Afghanistan, is not the same as what they do in Senegal, except that many people there are practicing Muslims.Period.

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THIS STORY!! How does that look? 5 star hotels but doesn't give his family $$ I don't think so. And this man recently bought a diamond mine. If anything, he'd be putting them to work for some $$

Wow...this sounds so much like the disgruntled family member who couldn't get anything they THOUGHT they would get from HIS (AKON, ALIAUNE THIAM) hard work.
People, first and foremost, in Senegal, where his roots are, it is different by far. Senegalese actually take care of each other. Many more leach off of the hardworkers and <<<< EXPECT >>>> to be provided for NO MATTER WHAT.
All the same this is the way of their culture. Not saying that his family or any other family will condone the behavior of the leach, for it is not tolerated. His family is very hardworking. ALL of his immediate brothers and sisters are STRONG WILLED SINCERE and GIVING PEOPLES, as well as his extended family (like Mama Africa <<< Ms. Kine >>>, his mom, Mor Thiam, many and I mean many cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews....so on and so forth...
STOP BEING UNHAPPY and GET A JOB!!!
In so far as what Akon does with his money, this is his business...AKON takes very good care of his family (immediate and the distant alike, abroad and here within the states)...
I need not speculate as I am a very good friend of the family, have been way before people realized his potential.
Instead of hating on what the brother does, go out and about and do what can be done to make a change as he and many others are doing.
Trying to scar his character is a norm, as we KNOW who you are...
Folks, one mustn't believe EVERYTHING one reads or hears or even sees...
