: HAWAII (AP) Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman has apologized for a comment she made during Friday's second-round telecast from the PGA Tour's season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii.
Tilghman and analyst NickFaldo were discussing young players who could challenge Tiger Woods when Faldo suggested they gang up on the No. 1 player. Tilghman, a 1991 Duke graduate, laughed and said, "Lynch him in a back alley."
Tilghman, starting her second full season as a lead announcer, apologized in a statement issued Tuesday by The Golf Channel. "I used some poorly chosen words," she said. "I have known Tiger for 12 years and I have apologized directly to him. I also apologize to our viewers."
Golf Channel spokesman Dan Higgins said he was not aware of any disciplinary action Tilghman might face. She is the first woman to be a full-time play-by-play announcer of PGA Tour events.
Woods did not play in Kapalua.
JUST because a PERSON marries aperson of another Culture and Heritage does not DEEM them as a Sell OUT, mayBe NO one SHowed Them the BEAUTY of Being AFRICAN American, BLACK, NEgRO, A ***!GGER, BROWNIE , etc...hell WE HAVE TO FIND OUT WHO WE ARE FIRST....sH!T Blak folks are the ONLY ones with a MULTITUDE OF PSEUDONYMS!
@ lastofthereal u do have a point, I remember back when Tiger was "ashamed" to be black. But somebody still should've slapped that dumb bytch for even sayin some *** like that on T.V. Matter of fact she should lose her job, because to me that's just as bad better yet worse than Imus's "Nappy headed hoe" comment.........I'm just sayin'
WOW, MAYBE PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH EACH OTHER, IN FACT TOO COMFORTABLE. YOU CAN'T TALK LIKE THAT ANYMORE YOU LOOSE EVERYTHING, BUT SHE LOST NOTHING THEY LET HER BROADCAST AGAIN AFTER THIS BAKED UP APOLOGY. THESE PEOPLE THAT GO TO DUKE COLLEGE, ANYTHING WITH THE WORD DUKE IN IT NEEDS TO SCANNED FOR RACISM...
why should we care, bout what the *** she said?? she aint nothing but a word, and why should her words matter?? i bet she dont even know a black person personally, so she jus watches the media, and make her own assumptions about black ppl...all she said was words, so *** that white lice headed ***!!!
Sadly, her comments go deeper than that. She meant what she said and I believe knew what she said when she said it. She like many others know that they can run to the media and make some fake apology and it will be accepted. Why wait and apologize; if she were truly sorry and it just "slipped out" she should have made her apologies during that same statement. Although, I still doubt that it would have been believeable. To Tiger's testiment, this should, again, let him know that no matter what he chooses to call himself (race-wise), to society he will always be a black man.
Well hey, Tiger wants to be white sooooo bad, he wants the white world, married a white tramp b*&%$, and has a mixed baby in the process. So what do you expect. It all comes with the territory; racist comments and all. But in all honesty, I don't believe she ment anything by it. I just think it was a very bad choice of words.
@ LastofthaReal - I am witcha all the way. *** Tiger. He doesn't want us so why should we give a hoot about him. I think he is about as much of a sellout as they come.
G-SWORD WROTE: TELL ME WHEN DID TIGER EVER SAY THAT HE WAS ASHAMED OF BEING BLACK. THE MAN LOVED HIS FATHER AND HE WAS BLACK JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T SEE TIGER OVER HERE LISTENING TO RAP, TALKING IGNORANT, OR TALKING ABOUT HOW BLACK HE IS, DOESN'T MEAN HE IS ASHAMED OF BEING PART BLACK.
YES IN AN INTERVIEW IWITH DIANE SAWYER(I THINK IT WAS HER) he said hes not black and he act like he was irrated that she even mentined the word!!!!yea he would probably be happier if he wasnt part black!!!!!!!
BUT FU&*** TIGGER HE PROBABLY DONT GIVE A *** ANYWAYS SINCE HE THIINK HES WHITE OR ASIAN ANYWAYS!!!!!
thats a *** shame, how all of a sudden more and more people think its funny to say this racist comments and it be all cool. No i dont like Tiger and i never have but it doesnt give anyone the right to say things like that about us... dang 2008 and it still continues.. we'll always be slaves in peoples eyes, no matter how great we are...
@focus Ok mabey ashamed was a bad choice of words on my part, but I never labeled Tiger anything negative, and I don't expect him to talk about his blackness all the time. All I'm sayin is I remember back when Tiger was first discovered, and blacks folks everywhere were just proud of him & just really excited that a black man mastered golf. He made it a point to let everyone know that he was only so much black and mostly asian or whatever he is mixed with(which really doesn't matter), and to black folks that was kind of like a slap in the face. I still think that the female commentator who made the remark should be fired, but at the same time I don't have as much sympathy for Mr. Woods as I would any other black person.
@Imabossbytch: The first time I ever heard Tiger discuss his ethinicity on TV was when he appeared on Oprah. She asked him the funny name he came up with to identify himself as a child. When he said Cablasian, some black people went crazy. Many multicultural children identify themselves that way. After that the print media would print the wold in his interviews.
If Tiger Woods was ever ashamed of being part black, he surely has a funny way of showing it because his golf foundation is geared toward black, inner city kids when no such thing ever existed.
When mixed-race people have identity problems they go overboard. Like Maraih Carey telling the world she's black. That's just to sell cds to people who like R&B. You don't hear Derek Jeter going around saying that. He's very comfortable in his multicultural skin and so is Tiger.
Wow..she's known him for 12 years? Why would she even say something like that? LYNCH HIM? Hang him in the back alley because he's black? She apologized? Why? She said what she meant, plain and simple. I wish that b*tch would meet me in the back alley - we'll see who gets lynched. C.oc.*** suck.ing, Jim Crow hon.key.
I wish I could feel sorry for Tiger Woods, but I don't. He said he wasn't black, he only dated and later married a white woman,of course she is not American but skin still lily white, and still he is not getting the welcome committee from white people that he so desires. So let them keep making negative comments about his dumb ***. It'll become more convenient for him to be black when he has had enough. By the way, isn't it about time for another has-been celebrity to call somebody an ***-word?
