: PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - (AP) A published report says a number of entertainers have been named in connection with an Albany, N.Y.-based steroid investigation.
The Times Union of Albany newspaper cites unidentified sources in a Sunday report that R&B music star Mary J. Blige, rap musicians 50 Cent, Timbaland and Wyclef Jean, and award-winning author and producer Tyler Perry may have received or used performance enhancing drugs.
Albany District Attorney P. David Soares launched an investigation into steroid trafficking last year. Law enforcement officials have said evidence does not indicate that the celebrities broke the law. Officials are focusing on the doctors, pharmacists and clinics that provide the drugs.
Soares has declined to comment on or confirm the identities of the stars mentioned in the report. His multistate investigation has focused on Signature Pharmacy of Orlando, Fla. So far 10 defendants have pleaded guilty and some professional athletes have been linked to the probe in news reports.
Soares has said Signature was at the centre of a web of businesses and doctors that illegally wrote prescriptions for steroids. The investigation gained national attention in the U.S. almost a year ago when authorities raided Signature. The company's owners and the pharmacy's operators are awaiting trial in Albany on related charges.
Records shared with the Times Union and information from several cooperating witnesses on Long Island indicate the celebrities received prescribed human growth hormone or steroids. In some cases aliases were used for their delivery.
Former Sen. George Mitchell released his report last month on performance-enhancing drugs in baseball.
The report said former Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski provided steroids and human growth hormone linked to several prominent players, including Roger Clemens, Paul Lo Duca, Mo Vaughn, Lenny Dykstra and Andy Pettitte. Radomski pleaded guilty last year to charges that he dealt steroids to players for a decade.
Hearings are set to begin this month in Congress on the Mitchell report.

Should this be a shock? Athletes use performance enhancing drugs to gain an edge and get that big contract. Their livelihoods depend on their physical talents. White people (especially the French) were trying to get Lance Armstrong for years because before he came down with what doctors thought was terminal cancer, he wasn't a very good bike rider. After he got cancer free, he won 7 Tour De France's in a row and that defied medical logic. He had to be using something. But he was the most tested athlete in the world and was found clean.
Now you have entertainers whose body image has become a part of the package. Does these drugs make them better singers, rappers, and actors? The answer is no, but it will get them considered for other lucrative options outside of their primary occupation. Now if we see Jill Scott and Snoop Dogg lookin all cut up, we will know its a trend.

If these claims are true then here is my take on it....Timberland is still a fatty so I don’t see how he was able to benefit from that. And as far as Mary is concerned, I just don't get it. She already has that masculine/feminine thing going on so her taking steroids is completely bizarre to begin with. No comment on Wyclef other than he's very hard on the eyes...
However on the flip side, I must mention that steroids could also be used to treat certain diseases such as Sarcoidosis which is an inflammation that produces tiny lumps of cells in various organs in your body. Often times these lesions can form clusters on an organ which would affect how the organ works. Steroids are used to decrease the inflammation. I am very familiar with this because my mom has suffered from this since I was in high school and as a result of the steroid use; she gained a lot of weight. I also heard Bernie Mac suffers from this as well which would explain his weight gain. So with that being said there's always a possibility that one of these celebrities may suffer from something similar. So before we judge anyone here lets let all the facts come out.

The only way they are "legal" when correctly (and legally) prescribed by a physician. It would be the same "issue" if the drug were oxycodone or marijuana.

100% true. I'd use the actors in the movie "300" as an example. Physiques are most important in this celebrity culture.
Nobody wants to end up on MTO or TMZ or in the Enquirer looking bad. These celebrities aren't genetic freaks of nature in terms of their physiques, it's chemically induced.
But none of this has anything to do with making them sing better...just look better and be more marketable.

Why are people quick to dismiss Mary, because she's not big like Timbo and 50 ?? What point is there in the entertainers being put on blast for steroids? You would think with all the other problems that this country is having, they can find a better way to spend their time. These people are grown and if they want to kill themselves slowly, oh well. They're not hurting us. Tell us what these politicians are doing in there free time. I bet it's a lot worse than steroids.

In small amounts they increase lean body muscle mass which is desirable for women and has anti-aging qualities in the *** term.
The issue is the ILLEGALITY of this. Right now, they're targeting the doctors, but if the USERS knowingly used or filled bogus prescriptions, then they are liable TOO.

I find it awfully suspect that they are always targeting blacks with any kind of steroid drama...they don't want to give Barry Bonds his props but it has never been proven that he used ANY kind of steroids. The news said some celebrities used the steroids to have enough energy to perform on stage *** after ***. It was also said some use it to improve their looks.
Next Beyonce's name will be caught up in this mess. We all see how much energy she has during her concerts. I also noticed how her body changed over the years. When DC first came out, her *** was not that plumped.

I've heard that when men use steroids, their muscles increase but the *** size and productivity decreases so why would UGLY *** 50 cent use steroids? But Mary, no. And Wyclef and Tyler don't even look like they work out, let alone take anything to boost their workouts. If anything they have taken performance enhancers, instead of flying Southwest. Now LL has been buff since he toured with Run DMC, and I've seen some video of his workout, especially the situps he does like Floyd Mayweather (sit up and stand all in one motion). But they really need to look Sly Stallone with the Fred Flinstone shaped head. Only HGH will do that to you.
Even if true, remember these drugs were given by medical professionals for legitimate reasons. Without getting to technical here for obvious reasons, both of those drugs have legitimate and perfectly LEGAL uses especially for throat problems. Don't let these fools make you believe the worst about your celebrities without ALL of the facts coming out.
