: Many actors and musicians are not committing to the Grammys' until the Hollywood writer's strike comes to an end. But MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Beyonce isn't going to let a lil ole strike stop her from getting her shine in front of millions of people.
You see, despite the striking writers' call for entertainers to boycott the Grammy Awards, Beyonce has committed to performing at the awards show.
Here's a statement that Matthew Knowles released on behalf of Beyonce:
The work of The Recording Academy is vital to the music industry, and we have every intention of being with the entire music community to celebrate the Grammys’ 50th birthday in February. Beyoncé, as well as my other artists Solange and Trinitee 5:7, have been asked to participate and will do so. We have an incredible Beyoncé performance that will be announced soon.Bey better watch out - those Hollywood unions don't play. We can hear the calls to boycott Beyonce already....We wish the Grammys the best.

In theory, she should be supporting the writers, like other artists such as Alicia Keys, and not exploiting the current situation to fit in a gig for herself and Solange. I don't think that she would have gotten the spot but for other musicians decision not to commit to the awards show (she doesn't have a bunch of nods and none of her songs were particularly notable this year). She is a media *** with no ethics. I try to like her, but she is always doing some dumb sh!! to mess it up.
I'm ambivalent on this one. The strike has caused undue hardship on a lot of people. David Letterman and Jay Leno have come out of pocket to pay some of their workers. Why didn't they strike over the summer, during reruns? If that didn't work, then they could've kept on going. I don't like to see families out of work, strike or no strike. However, I do see the writer's point about the companies making huge sums of money and they deserve some of that pie too.

I totally understand what youre saying, but beyonce gets the bulk of her money through music. If Im not mistaken, I havent heard any of her music featured in any movie that I've seen. I feel bad for the writers. truly I do, but my money has to keep rolling in and not stop because writers are having issues.
The writers strike has nothing to do with the Grammy's other than the possibility of an actor or comedian hosting The Grammy's and that person being in the union. The 49th annual Grammy Awards announced the first four of its scheduled performers today (Jan. 11th), with more performers expected to be added between now and Feb. 11th, when the awards show takes place. All of the four announced artists -- Beyonce, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Dixie Chicks, and Gnarls Barkley -- received multiple nominations this year, and all except Gnarls have won Grammys in past years.

Now, I'll be the first to say that I'm not a huge Beyonce fan, but let her do her thing. I just read an email from the Recording Academy (The organization that awards the Grammy's), and part of it says:
"We understand that many of you may have questions and concerns regarding the potential impact of the Writer’s Guild of America’s (WGA) current strike on our upcoming milestone 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast and related GRAMMY Week events. The Recording Academy has issued a statement regarding this issue. The American Federation of Musicians (AFM) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), the two unions that have long been the only ones with jurisdiction and representation of the musical talent on the show, have asked their members to support the GRAMMYs".
That's straight from the Executive Office of the Grammy's, not secondary information... So if Beyonce or anyone else is going to perform, they have the support of THEIR union... So what's the problem?

As a WGA member- we are simply asking to be paid when our work appears on the Internet. Everyone else gets paid- the Producers, now the Directors (they signed their contract yesterday). The studios get paid too.

Beyonce is an ultimate performer you cannot stop her from performing that is her job and she works hard for the money...and The Grammy's was smart to ask Beyonce to perform because she brings the hype and intrest to any award show or event...if beyonce does'nt perform then the award shows are usually boring to watch

I think this is a bad move by Beyonce. So far the Foo Fighters and Trinties 5:7 are the only ones who are gonna show and perform and two of the three are managed by MR. Knowles.
Beyonce does not care about the writers because she is not a writer. She claims she does, but we all have heard how she enters a word here or melody here and gets songwriting credit.
People say Forget the writers, but who writes the shows you watch. The Grammy's are asking if the writers can write because they write the shows. They write the script. What good is Denzel without a script to recite. Some one say, they wanna strike, but your creativity and work does not bring in hundreds of million of dollars and you are left with 40,000-120,000. Out of a 19.00 DVD you are getting $.22. You do not do that. I am a writer and this is discouraging. When you sit and think of idea after idea, detail after detail, and people who want to be in your script disrespects you like that. Dark day for Beyonce I see if the union wins.
