One top entertainment journalist tells MediaTakeOut.com that 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys are not willing to cross the line. Tells the insider, "Basically any musician that wants to have a future career in Hollywood has been told by their management NOT to perform at the Grammys ... I'm not sure exactly what Beyonce's [management] could have been thinking.

Of course Justin and Alicia are boycotting. They are humble artists who reach out to the people, who sympathize with the people and who are in support of the people. In many ways, I think the public, media and fans would expect nothing less. Beyonce on the other hand, doesn't know anything about feeling anything for anybody else. That was proven by the way she used those other girls in the group to get herself popular and renown, and then broke away and haven't looked back or given them or their failed careers a second thought. I must say I am surprised that 50 Cent has the intelligence to make such an honorable gesture. He is so anti-political, so for HIM to do this, Beyonce should be ashamed. Then again, she is so illiterate, she probably don't know what the hell a strike is. She thinks this will give her some record-breaking, historical achievement like "the only recording artist in history to be the only solo artist to perform at the Grammys". She will hold a Guinness record as well as "the most simultaneous scratched-off name on directors, producers and casting directors list in the history of film".
She's already history in Hollywood. She already knows she won't be in any more films. Crossing the picket line or not, she won't be acting no time soon. The only screen time she will be getting is at an music award show. GO BEY! Do your "Hollywood" song at the grammys. Show them you didn't record that song for nothing. That will show them! LOL
First Billboard posted this article last week. Yes i understand she is an artist however she is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild as well as other Guildes in Hollywood, along with those others who are mentioned in the article. The route she is trying to take is saying that shes doing tthis for her music career however that is what got her to hollywood in the first place. No it might not hurt her in the money depot, she will lose respect or little that she had from her music peers an acting peers. I really think Matthew is making a big mistake i just wish Bey would take a stand for once. Thank you Nataine and Erisper. It's about more than making money. It's about standing up and supporting the little man. Beyonce wouldn't be considered a triple threat (and I use that term loosely) if it weren't for the writers and crews that helped produced the films she starred in. She needs to stop being her father's puppet and grow a backbone. For the folks who don't get why this is an issue, you must not have family members in unions. There are times when striking is the only way you get your point across. I remember being on the picket lines with my mother when all the employees were asking for was continued quality health insurance. Beyonce and the other artists performing on the show need to be cognizant of their actions and the message they are sending to the general public.
Solidarity Beyonce, that's the word of the hour, you've made your money, now let the writers have a chance of making theirs, after all they're the ones that are behind the multi-million dollar grossing movies & tv shows that we love so much, yet they still don't get the monetary credit they deserve.

Im so sick of all this Beyonce is in this to make money. Yes its wrong because these people are protesting to make a better living for themselves. But that is why I dont buy CDs or go to any of these concerts because how much sense does it make for me to get 100 dollar concert tickets and everything else that goes with it ( outfits and stuff) so that they kids can be in private school and they can live in mansions while mine are in public school and a couple of paychecks away from the projects.

If Beyonce' crosses the picket line, then that means that her acting career is over before it really started. DO NOT PLAY WITH HOLLYWOOD, they stick together no matter what. Its bad enough that Hollywood doesn't recognize black actresses the way they should. If Beyonce cross that picket line, No WRITER IN HOLLYWOOD or any director is going to want too work with her. So she should think twice about that move. If she does then that means that she has no political or moral values about herself. People strike for a reason and you should never cross the picket line.
She may have agreed before she even knew the grammy's would be affected. Who could have really predicted a music award show would be affected. Music writers aren't even in a union. The few writers that work for the awards show itself may or maynot choose to work it, but I don't know if there was really a reason to think it would have been a target. Clearly, the striking writers and their unions make exceptions for whom they want (i.e. Letterman). It should be all or none, and its hard to keep predicting who they want to use to make their point. I haven't heard anything about the SAG awards being canceled and they may very well be coming up before the grammy's.
She may have sort of made a bad decision, now that we know. But no one knows when she made the commitment. Also, the grammy's aren't upon us yet, she may see the seriousness of the boycott and change her mind. You never really know.

I am a union member. For those who don't know if it was not for the union, people will still be making sub-standard wages while the owners & management keep all the profits. Union workers make twice as much as their non-union counterparts, with full medical,dental,& 401k. So I am with the unions all the way.

Well, I knew when I was typing that I was referring to a show nobody actually cared about or probably even watches. So I just had to laugh with you on that. But my point is, if you're going to be down for the cause, there are no exceptions regardless of how big (or little in this case) the consequences. Its always been unfair that Letterman can still go on the air. There are writers (NBC, for example) who don't even have a job to go back to when this is all said and done. There are many other writers, the majority of which, will not still be getting their paychecks like Conan O'brien, Jay Leno, and David Letterman writers who are being paid their regular salary, most of whom aren't working in exchange. Their fellow writers are suffering and holding out while they still have income and jobs. What kind of *** is that. There's no half-strike, no conditional-strike, there's only strike. Either they're in it together or they're not. Therefore, no award show, no show, no nothing, regardless of how lame, should be allowed to go on if they're really down for the cause, in my opinion of course. So this wishy washyness (is that a word?) of allowing some shows to go on, some writers to get paid, some people to cross the picket line is a type of politics that should not exist in a united front. How can you be taken seriously if you're not together in the fall just as much as you are in the victory.
And yes, nothing i said had anything to do with beyonce lol. I don't have that much of an opinion on what she should do. That depends on who she feels she should support, what she feels she stands for it whether or not she should put her neck out for people out of pure good consciousness without the need for personal gain. I think you have to ask yourself, if one of the departments in your job that you work synergistically with to get your job done, went on strike alone. Would you yourself start forgoing your paychecks and stop working in support of them? Seems a little extreme but being wealthier than most doesn't mean a actor (and all of the filming crew) isn't out of money by not working. And you have to respect their perspective and situation as well.

Couple of years ago i was beyonce #1 fan,today looking at my boxes full of her pictures gears and cd's i laugh at my ignorance just like all of you stans here i was a stan, i knew deep down inside that she was ignorant,i knew that she wasnt the best singer,i knew that she used destiny's child as a trampoline to propulse herself,i knew that she could care less about her fans because everytime that i tried to get an autograph without cameras around she will roll her eyes at me and others and walk away like we were supposed to chase her and beg for her atention, but still i would come to website and fight with people that i didnt know i wouldnt pick up the phone when my man called [too busy brushing off the "haters" and one day i realize that i was the real hater i wanted to be like her so much that everyone around me that didnt agree with me about her was my ennemie and i stopped and started to think would beyonce be there is tomorow i need a shoulder to cry? would she be there if i need to talk yell scream or just be ***?would she give me advice on some important subjects of my life? if i needed 2000 dollars to pay rent would she lend them to me? the answer is no she wont be there for me so there is only some limit to your love for somebody you doesnt know your mother,people that participate actively to your life should inspire you not an atention wanting money hungry ignorant girl not yet a women since i got off beyonce's crotch i actually spend my free time with people that love me and that i love back people that dont need me to buy them or bui their stuff in order to be in their circle of "friends" beyonce dont love you the minute you stop buying her *** you're not important anymore bossy chick, haterz,beyis the best,dcfan get a life i promise you once you get off her crotch you'll breathe better and get along better with people

IMO, writers don't hire people, directors and studios make those decisions. Writers may have some animosity, but for their work to be fully appreciated and worth something it is up to those who do the casting to pick actors that bring out what is being written. And in the end, if you have an actor who fits exceptionally well into a character, unless they are making poor life decisions that are being scrutinized by the public (i.e. Britney spears, Mel Gibson), they'll make money. I agree with you, in the end its all about the money they make these studios. If they fill seats nobody cares whether or not they crossed a writers picket line 2 years prior. Beyonce's casting as an actress will ultimately depend on her abilities and no one else'. I've only seen one type of actress from her, one that isn't all that articulate or naturally flows her lines at the moment, but that might change. If it does, hollywood will respond accordingly. For beyonce, its a plus because she comes with her own fan base that clearly can't get enough of her. If she works on the latter, people probably won't even remember this day. But only time will really tell.....

Thats what I'm trying to figure out, Why are certain shows getting a pass? The Grammys only has very few award catergories that deal with film and thats best song, best soundtrack and best score, Bey is nominated for Best Soundtrack, That I do know but Its A Music Award Show for the most part and its a highly rated telecast unlike the SAG Awards and Image Awards! Its the Oscars of Music!

I have tried to stay out of this conversation. It has been hard as I know first hand the impact unions have had on the labor movement in the United States. Some of you need to consider this...
The writers did not picket the SAG awards and the Independent spirit awards because the Screen Actors Guild supports the writers. They will picket the Grammys because the recording artist union has not come out in support of them (makes sense right?).
This strike is supported by Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Huckabee, Gov. Richardson, and Arnold Schwartzeneger (sp) is working feverishly to settle the dispute because so far this strike has cost the entertainment industry at least one billion dollars.
It does make good business sense for recording artists to support this strike. With all of the changes in the music industry, there may come a time when recording artists strike (at least they should... I mean being paid pennies per cd for your hard labor is crazy). They will need the support of writers.
This strike is about the money that can be made on the internet. The industry heads say there is no money to be made, but look at Youtube, the gossip blogs, and television networks that broadcast their shows on the internet. Each of these types of sites have advertisements, and advertisements mean money. Also, if I were a writer I would want to be paid for my work where ever it is shown. I know that no one on this site works for free.
Someone mentioned the writers that work for David Letterman, Conan, and Jay Leno. These shows have "settled" with the writers and I believe they are paying the writers out of their own pockets.
This is really bigger than any recording artist. I wish that some of you understood that.

bump the writer's strike. while they're complaining about not getting their fair share, there are thousands of people in the industry who are being put out of work because they want to act like spoiled children. I'm not a Beyonce fan, but I hope she performs, b/c these things actually employ a lot of people behind the scenes who don't have union representation and pay the price when hollywood talent goes on strike

People are saying Beyonce agreed to perform only if her Dad's other acts could...it's shine for her sister, really. And, to show their gratitude the Grammys promised her the award for Record of the Year. That's what people are saying...because Beyonce and The Foo Fighters were the first to commit...the organization had no idea who'd show so they were willing to negotiate. Others have said that not only was Beyonce promised "Record of the Year," but everyone who has agreed to participate in the show has been promised a trophy. But, we'll see...

“AFM and AFTRA are encouraged by today’s news that the Writers Guild of America has signed an interim agreement with the NAACP that will allow “The 39th NAACP Image Awards,” to be telecast as scheduled. John Cossette Productions, Inc.—the producer of the 50th Annual Grammy Awards telecast—has made a written offer to the WGA to sign a similar interim agreement to allow the Grammy Awards to be telecast as planned on February 10, 2008. The Grammy Awards, in conjunction with the twelve events that surround the telecast, are the primary events that sustain the important educational, charitable, and advocacy activities of The Recording Academy to benefit the entire recording industry.
I like B, but this is a stupid move on her part. If her father advised her to do this, she needs to dump him for real, because this will cost her in the end. I happen to be in the mood for constructive critism today – no hatting I promise….Dear Beyonce and Stans, sometimes as an artist you need to directly connect to your audience and fans at an emotive level – it can be through your actions, words or whatever. Alicia Keys and these other artists are have basically chosen to support other creative people who happen to be their collegues instead of hogging the spotlight. An artist of her(bee’s) “SUPPOSED” stature is in a position to offer massive support to these writers and she is instead stepping on them just for a moment of publicity… why does she have to perform at the Grammy’s anyway?
