: Well, MediaTakeOut.com reported to you a few months back that a a group of men have created their own "charter" membership of the prestigious African American sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha. And by "charter" we mean - HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH.
Well anyway, check out the new pledges in action. They even do the AKA's patented "Ivy Stance." SMDH
And will all the AKAs please, please, please send your hate mail elsewhere. MediaTakeOut.com doesn't make the news, we just report it...
LMAO! I'm gonna need yall to get with it MTO! These guys have been around for a while now...their all over the world and apparently they've done their research..legally they aren't doing anything wrong. Thats why a lot of AKA's are upset about this...and they have every right to be! But this is sssssoooooo old. NEXT!
Brotha Bobby Hemmitt talked about this and was right on time. ***!!

i don't understand y there hasn't been a bigger outrage over this. aren't the alphas supposed to be aka's brothers, y haven't they stepped up to denounce this. i kNOW if this was a SIGMA or Zeta deal (we the only real brothers and sisters U kNOW) this would have been addressed from the beginning!

This troy is so old....find something new to talk about please...
taken from an aricle on the BET.com website..... "Posted March 20, 2007 – Well-coifed Black men in pink and green outfits. Flawless make-up. Pearl bracelets. When images of presumably *** men dressed like Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority members surfaced on the Internet, message boards lit up across Black America as folks expressed concern that the men had created their own unofficial chapter of AKA.
Photos of inductees to the Tri Alpha Chapter of MIAKA (Men Interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha) from Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M were published on a BET.com forum that became a user showdown. Black radio lines buzzed, and Houston’s CBS affiliate ran a story.
'Politically Incorrect'
The media portrayed the group as a rogue “new” faction of *** men, dead set on infiltrating AKA, the nearly century-old sorority. AKA National stressed MIAKAs had “no official or unofficial standing with the sorority.” MIAKAs claimed foul play. Both parties threatened lawsuits.
As the debate raged, one thing became clear: The controversy was less about the sanctity of AKA and more about ***. A self-proclaimed Omega Psi Phi member posted, “I can care less about being politically correct. *** is wrong and it is tolerated too much, especially on our Black campuses.” One AKA proclaimed, “God is not pleased with this.” Others called it “sick.”
Actually, there’s nothing new about MIAKA. Like a similar organization modeled after Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, MIAKA dates to at least the mid-1960s.
“I know members who are well into their 40s and 50s,” said Elliot, 29, a MIAKA member and HBCU graduate from Atlanta. He joined MIAKA in 1999 and also pledged a fraternity of the “Divine Nine,” the name given to nine historically Black fraternities and sororities in the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
There are also *** groups modeling fraternities like Alpha Phi Alpha. “There’s a shadow group for everyone,” explained Elliot, who requested that his last name not be pubished.
'A lot of Distress for Members'
At colleges where Greek-letter activities dominate student life, *** and *** students are often excluded. For some, groups like MIAKA offer an alternative. Their existence is no secret at large HBCUs. Still, membership is often discreet. Events are held privately to avoid a *** backlash. There’s a pledging process, but members don’t consider themselves AKAs. They understand “they could never go to the Boule and ‘skee-weet’ with the real girls,” Elliot explained. “It certainly isn’t about me or anyone wanting to be a woman or replace them.”
Although he doesn’t discuss MIAKA with his frat brothers, Elliot has AKA friends and relatives who don’t find the group offensive. “I may joke and say, ‘Hey Soror,’ and we laugh,” said Elliot, who blames *** for the recent outcry.
But others see it differently. For Lawrence C. Ross, Jr., author of The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities, the protection of fraternities’ and sororities’ histories, customs and trademarked symbols is paramount.
“Certainly *** is there,” admitted the Alpha Phi Alpha member, 41. “But when someone hijacks your organization, there’s a lot of distress for the members…. You would get an angry reaction if they were *** men or White frat boys.”
Alfrances Sharpe, 70, pledged AKA at Tennessee State University in 1958. Sharpe’s son is an openly *** minister and Alpha Phi Alpha member.
“I don’t have a problem with the *** community,” ventured Sharpe.
But she was “livid” when she saw the images. “Yes, these groups have been around for a long time, but they were never public,” said Sharpe, who finds new MIAKAs disrespectful.
According to Elliot, AKAs call upon MIAKAs to help host events or win campus titles. And some AKA chapters actually crown a “Mr. MIAKA.” But auxiliary groups aren’t self-appointed, Ross stressed. “Sweetheart groups are organized by members of the organizations, and persons are asked to join.”
Sharpe believes *** and *** uncomfortable with traditional organizations should find “above-ground” alternatives. “There are groups out there for you,” Sharpe pleaded. “Get into one of those groups, and then you can learn what sisterhood or brotherhood truly is.”
Indeed, more than 25 Black *** and *** Greek-letter organizations have been founded since 1985. Most emerged after 2000 and are incorporated with chapters in multiple cities.
But for male AKA devotees, imitation remains “the sincerest form of flattery,” Elliot reasoned. “I think they will still join MIAKA, even with *** frats.” "
First and foremost F UCK ALL sororities and fraternities! No black person belongs in any of these! You are not of Greek origin, the Greeks and Romans stole the knowledge of ancient Egypt (Kemet)which was an African (nubian) culture! By joining these societies you further perpetuate the lie of Greek ingenuity.. The Greeks were ***,lesbians and peodophilies. Science, mathmatics, astronomy, astrology, religion, written word, the alphabet are all AFRICAN! I opposed these soroities and frats in collge and continue to do so. Most of you dumb *** that are in these societies have no idea what you are a part of!
I don't have any opinion regarding the actual content of this post but just wanted to say great comment @ SoulPole. It seems really twisted that these organizations that are supposed to represent African American intellect and social advancement pattern themselves after the Greek society. As you said, Greek knowledge has is roots African teachings so why didn't our sororities and fraternities based their foundations on African principals? I'm not knocking those who are in frats and sororities, just wondering why we didn't seize the opportunity to bring the advancements of our African ancestors to light.
interesting Flag post Why don't they pick Delta's, Zeta's, Sigma Gamma Rho's sorority? Why are *** trying to be part of the AKA's?
Unbelievable. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So it's better to pick on the other soroities? And for the record they do imitate ALL those groups. I've seen them, they need to quit.
This is my first post and to SoulPole and Nuian_Huntress. Being a member of the Divine Nine please do research on your organizations before blasting them.
The only thing Greek about the Divine Nine is the letters. We are not founded on Greek traditions. The majority of these organizations were founded on two reasons 1) An alternative to greek fraternities and sororities and 2) Christian Values and beliefs.
From 1906 to 1968 please respect these founders because they went through hell and high water being a black male or female on a college campus in these days. If you can do nothing else RESPECT them for what they accomplished in these years.
Off the soapbox and happy to be here
THE ONLY TIME I SEE OR HEAR ANY AKA SORORITY IS ON A T-*** OR LICENSE PLATE. AKA -NOTHING WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY, YOU ACT LIKE IT IS A *** RELIGION. MOVE-ON THESE KIDS ARE JUST HAVING SOME FUN, GET OFF YOUR *** HIGH HORSE AND HELP SOME ONE DISADVANTAGED AND GET OVER IT. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED TO USE AKA OR ANY OTHER LETTER A THRU Z. NOW WHY DON'T YOU PICK YOUR *** SELF UP OFF THE THE FLOOOOOW "FLOOR". THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS SKIT ALL OVER USA FOR YEARS AND YOU CAN NOT DO A *** THANG ABOUT. SO *** THE F_UC_K UP aka-bcdefghijklmnopqrstu xwvyz.
@Soulglow or Soulplane whatever your name is. Im not gonna say do your homework because you sound like the typical bitter person who was either jealous of greeks in college or didnt get in or dropped. so you i know you cant be stupid enough to imply that black greeks are based of ancient greeks. for all those who are not familiar with black greeks and think he is speaking the truth because he has jimmy hendrix in his picture, let me tell you this: he is saying *** black greeks so basically he is saying *** Martin luther king, Thurgood Marshall, Authur Ash, Michael Jordan, Bill cosby, W.E.B Dubois, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott king, Paul Robeson, Maya Angelou, Phylisha Rashad, Cedrick the entertainer, John Singleton, Langston Hughes, Jesse Jackson,Aretha Franklin, Nikki Giovanni,Betty Shabazz,Quincy Jones, Blair Underwood, Zora Neal Hurston, AND THE LIST GOES ON
look im proud to be apart of this group and i know they made the right decision. so if you feel that Southpole is right and we are stupid well thats on You!
The AKA's are out of control letting this happen....this may be the first male line to cross.....but no the first male to cross to AKA....This is one of the reasons there were 3 young ladies sitting at my kitchen table saying they would never consider AKA...
This is F-ing ridiculous!!!!!!!! Just give it to the males and vote in a new name for the girls......F-ing crazy!!!!!

This is nothing new. It is however, very disrespectful to everything that Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded and based upon. It is being dealt with from a legal standpoint, but the only thing I can think to do is to not encourage this in any way, shape or form. They can never and will never be recognized members.
FIRST AKA DO NOT OWN THE ALPHABETS AND YOU NOT ROYALTY, YOU GONNA SUE SOMEONE FOR USING SOME OF THE ALPHABETS. YA'LL ARE SOME REALLY STUPIDS HOES IF YOU THINK THESE GUYS ARE SERIOUS ABOUT BEING A STUPID AKA. IT IS A JOKE YOU ARE GETTING BENT OUT OF SHAPE FOR NO REASON. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO HIRE ANY ONE JUST BECCUASE SHE BELONGS TO A SORORITY. I NEED AND EXPECT A LITTLE MORE THAN THAT.

@SOUL POLE and Nubian-Huntress
Before you speak on these organizations, please understand them and their purpose. As some others have stated... the only thing Greek about them is their letters. All of our organizations uplift and promote achievement in the Black Community. Not just here in America, but we have chapters in Africa as well so that we can give back to the community. We understand the contributions of African Americans in society, hell many of the African Americans to which you are referring are members of Black Greek lettered organizations. Now, holding leadership positions in my fraternity, having a brother in another, and a mother in a sorority... I know first hand the contributions that are made to our community. 1. Every city that my fraterinty holds its Konclave in, we build a house for habitat for humanity (FOR A BLACK family to live in) 2. We have one of the largest black mentoring programs in the countrys for black male students in Middle and High school 3. We log 1000s our hours each year doing community service at black community centers and schools, and black historical monuments to ensure they are preserved. 4. We give away 100,000s of dollars in scholarship money to members and non-members. 2 of my scholarships to attend a 4-year university came from a sorority and a fraternity. 5. We train blacks for leadership positions outside of the collegiate environment. 6. We own our own Credit Union that is Federally ensured and Bonded so that we have invest in our own community and distribute the wealth.
So before you go and start talking reckless about something you don't understand.. do your research! You don't see us walking around acting like we are not Black or promoting Greek Culture over our own culture!
@ SOUL POLE and Nubian-Huntress
I wish I had seen this post earlier but I have already read some people explaining to you that we do not uphold the Greek tradition. We are for the advancement of our Black brothers and sisters. I have noticed that many people on the outside looking in on our Black Greek organizations harbor a lot of resentment towards us without ever bothering to learn what we are about. I guess it's just easier to spew ignorance than to take the time to read, talk and become informed. I don't want to hear, "Well, I knew this Que and he is a dog." There are ignorant people in all walks of life. Just as some of you choose to disassociate yourselves with ignorance, that is the same stance I take in my life. Don't lump us all into one category and think you know what we are about.
These are just wannabes! They are men that wanna be women, a sad excuse for a human being that wanna be called AKA's, and Losers that want people to care! My Illustrious organization has and never will codone such sorry actions displayed by these people. Skee-Wee to my REAL SORORS and let's all UPCHUCK when we see these FAKES!!!!!!!!
THIS IS A DISGRACE TO ALL SORORITY & FRATERNITY MEMBERS, AS WELL AS AFRICAN AMERICANS AS A WHOLE. WHY MUST WE ALWAYS DO THINGS THAT BRING DOWN EACH OTHER?? THIS IS WHY MOST YOUNG PEOPLE THINK THAT DELTAS ARE PUTTING UP THE DYNASTY SIGN (JAY-Z), AND DO NOT REALIZE THAT STANDS FOR A PYRAMID!! THE IGNORANCE OF OUR BLACK YOUTH IS OVERWHELMING. I AM SO GLAD I PLEDGED WAY BACK IN 1975.....WHEN BEING IN AN ORGANIZATION LIKE DELTA SIGMA THETA WAS (& STILL IS) AN HONOR!! MOST OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS ORIGINATED AT MY ALMA MATER, HOWARD UNIVERSITY. YOU JUST HAD TO BE THERE..........
Le me follow suit and also give respect to all the beautiful sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated on your centennial. 06!
This video is such an insult to a storied organization...and a slap in the face at the entire NPHC....Makes me sick.
@ WineAndDine - The stereotype doesnt always hold. I know some dark AKA's and some light skinned Deltas...I think some people do make the decision of which group to pledge based on the old stereotypes though.
FIRST OFF SSSKKKEEEEEE-WEEEEE to aallllll my beautiful sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Sorors, we have all been warned of this and it's up to US to keep the legacy of AKA alive. For those of you who don't know much about these guys--it's all fake. They don't know ANYTHING about being an AKA nor will they ever know. Trust that you cannot just assume and "create" a chapter of AKA. They are not recognized by any means. -------------------------- It's disheartening but tickles me in a way...I mean WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE AN A---***---A ?!?!?!
*** men have always emulated feminine, fantastic, famous and diva like women. As they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery. Most *** men seem to think of AKA’s as the finest of all womanhood. Notice I did not say all *** men and it should be noted that every single/individual AKA is not a perfect representation of the finest womanhood. However, the organization has a the reputation for having pretty, light skinned, stuck up, prissy, fashionably chic, and diva like members. Just follow me if you can. These men donning pink and green masks are merely being what some (notice not all - not even most) *** men are - insecure with embracing their masculinity. They try to distance themselves from all that is masculine. Unmasked, they twist more than any woman you have ever seen. They always attempt to sing soprano even if they sound like a cat getting electrocuted. They join our choirs, dance troupes, and join the ranks of our finest fashion police.
What’s sad is that often they cannot find true love because they all want roughneck brother. The brother that kills his real sister. The roughneck *** man (not all *** men) is so uncomfortable with his femininity that he hides his relations and truest sexual desires from almost everyone. He is ashamed of that side of himself and most likely ashamed of that AKA wanna be that he is kicking it with on the side. But, everybody and everything is dying. Our children are orphaned, our sisters have no husbands and are dying at alarming rates, and our men don’t stand up for anything. Yet brag “only a real man can take a DIC_.”
The saddest part of it all is that I have never known any proud parents of newborn baby boys to hope that their sons grow up to worship a fake sisterhood and carry on in such a way. And all of them are somebody’s children.
I don’t hate these men - either type (masculine. I just said all that to say! Have your fun, but let’s be real, it’s some *** up stuff happening and generations to come will suffer for the things we do today. Sororities and fraternities are not all fun and games. Community service and AIDS out reach is so needed in the black community. Stop just walking the fake line and walk the line of spreading the work about AIDS and safe ***. Do this as group first and stop hiding behind the masks.
TO ALL OF OUR BLACK MEN - WE LOVE YOU! WE NEED YOU! OUR HOPES AND DREAMS OF ALL OF OUR FUTURES IS DEEPLY ROOTED AND LIVES IN YOU AND DOES NOT RESIDE ON SORORITY ROW.
They DO NO REP AKA!!! I am an AKA and I am brown skin, those stereotypes are ridiculous and immature. I do believe that south of the Mississippi people still believe in those color barriers... which is sad. BTW, I live in Houston and those men should be ashamed to show their face!!
terrib1908- Hello Soror!
100 yrs of service to mankind... even those idiots!
Wow, as a member of Delta Sigma Theta I find this so disheartening. I agree with a previous poster that there are many *** fraternities out there, so why try to imitate AKA? Create your own organization with your own purpose. When I saw this, I sat here shaking my head. Such a shame,,,,such a shame. At my school I remember the AKA's hosting a Mr. MIAKA event, but it was not used in the same manner as these gentlemen use it. ..this was years ago. I guess the men took that title and just ran with it.
FIRST OF ALL THEY ARE IMITATORS...THEY ARE NOT AND CAN NEVER BE ONE OF THE DISTINGUISHED SORORS OF MY ORGANIZATION...AND TRUST THEY ARE NOT "PLEDGING IN AKA STANCE" BECAUSE WE DONT STAND LIKE THAT WHEN "PLEDGING" AND I PLEDGEDDDDDDDDDD SO I KNOW!
TO THE REAL A.***.A HAPPY 100 YRS...LOVE YA!
SKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE E
This is crazy. The thing tha I don't understand is why they want to be a part of an organization that will never recognize them as members?? I am a PROUD member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, inc. and this honestly just made me feel sorry for them because they do not know how to be the innovators and trailblazers that the founders of AKA were. If they feel that the Greek world is void of an organization that tailors to the *** man, then they should make their own organization. When there were no African American sororities in this country,Ethel Hedgeman Lyle didn't pretend to be a white sorority girl, she, along with the other founders, founded their own organization! YOU WILL NEVER BE US!!! That is all I have to say!
LOL - I see things haven't changed around here.
I've seen these "men" before, what a disgrace! And not b/c they're ***, but b/c how they're tarnishing the AKA organiation.
Ppl get off this skin tone thing, I'm light and I'm a DELTA. My friend is chocolate and she's an AKA. Was prez of her chapter in college, and she wasn't the only brown sista to be prez in that chapter. We're both still ver active in our respective local graduate chapters.
Which leads me to the critics, forget about us. Do ur best for our community. sheesh!
PS: I hear some guys calling themselves Delta Gents doing the same ***. I've never seen them tho. SMH at it all!
STFU COCO_COMMOTION.
You sound really bitter. You are probably some girl who couldn't pledge now you're hating on Alpha Kappa Alpha. It's not our fault that you didn't make the cut. Maybe you like something like finer womenhood? itelligence? charm? beauty? Please stop me when I hit the nail on the head. I'm gonna need you to fall back on something you know NOTHING about. Better yet, you could be one of those disrespectful MIAKAs. Men who wish that they were born women just the join the oldest black sorortiy in existence. It's easy for someone to judge another person or organization when they don't know ANYTHING about their lifestyle. If you aren't a greek or lack greek knowledge, please refrain from making ignorant statements. It's not about some colors and it's not about some letters. It's about a bond and a 100 year old sister hood that took alot to create. Blood, sweat and tears are the foundation of AKA, DST, ZPB, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Phi, Omeg, Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota. So please...stop hating! You wouldn't understand unless you were a greek. Imagine someone going around flossing something YOU create. Something that YOU went through hell to be apart of. Something that meant the world to you but they haven't gone through any of that. They're jackers. It's a total insult and they need to be stopped. Create your own organization that isn't centered around another greek.
...and I'm still pretty! Pink and Green love to the lovely ladies of ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA 1908!! 2008 100 years haters!!!
Much love to all members of the divine 9 =)
May I just add that this is soooo funny!!! I just do not understand why as a *** man you must try so hard to imitate a woman and vice versa with ***. I know this does not apply to all *** and *** but I just cannot wrap my mind around it. Now, I am not a member of a Divine Nine Org but I am a member of a Sigma Alpha Iota and we further the message of music throughout the world. I have not always had the best encounters with other Greeks but some people on here are getting way too personal with their hatred of these organizations. Some of you really sound as if you had your heart broken by a member of a Greek Letter Org, dropped line, or just did not make the cut. Come on we are all brothers and sisters in one way or another. If any one of these organizations were to offer your son or daughter a scholarship, would you not take it beacause of your personal views?
As i did more and more research about greek organizations i have come to realize that there is nothing Christian about them...Their pledges are verses taken out of the bible and they replace God with the name of the frat or soro...That's a sin again God...Next alot of the first Greek frats. are connected to the mason which is a demonic group...Next the Delta sorority was cursed from the begin because of their sign...Throwing up the pyramids...In the Bible God curses the Egyptians and their pyramids...Just wanted to release some knowledge on u guys...So if you are thinking about pledging do ur research first... XOXO ~Melissa~
