: NEW YORK, (AP) -- "Good Morning America" star Robin Roberts, who is battling breast cancer, earned a standing ovation when she doffed her wig at a New York fashion show.
Roberts, who announced in July she was battling the disease, has been sporting the hairpiece since shaving her head prior to undergoing chemotherapy.
She left it at home Thursday, however, when she took to the catwalk and modeled a dazzling, silver-beaded Isaac Mizrahi frock, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
"Did I forget my hair again?" Roberts quipped. "I wanted to do this for everyone who is going through something, a challenge in their life."
Designer Mizrahi told her she "looked so beautiful."
"You're a big inspiration," he said.
"It feels wonderful," Roberts said. "I haven't felt this great in a long time."
beautiful, just beautiful and very courageous.
am a breast cancer survivor and i thought it was going to be hard. the chemo, losing my hair, being sick to death every day. didn't think i'll make it. 2yrs later i hear about her having breast cancer and how she is handling it, makes me love this lady even more
Epitome of courage, I must say. And she looks beautiful -- and I'm not just saying it out of pity. In the future, she could actually work a really *** do (something my odd-shaped head would never allow me to do).
I have a dear ex co-worker who is a SURVIVOR -- probably one of the nicest people I know. Breast cancer is a beast. THINK PINK. We can beat this. This story is just a reminder to myself that I'd like to be more active for the cause. Thank God the disease hasn't touched my family.
Thank you, MediaTakeOut, for posting something so positive.
I actually sat here and cried when I looked at these photos. I'm glad she's not afraid to show the world what a cancer patient and survivor looks like. You have to have strength to overcome certain things in your life esp the unexpected things and she has that. I'm still praying for her full recovery. God bless her and all those who's families have been touched by this disease called Cancer. I lost my own father to it and watching his pretty black curly hair fall out made me cry... So i can only imagine what if must feel like to a woman to have all her hair come out.. Continue to fight on Robin!
@ QTEETAY2: Yep, India sang it best!!!
Robin is an inspiration in that she is not ROCKING a fashion, she is surving a disease that could kill her. So many women (and men) with cancer, all sorts, who need to know that they don't have to hide because they are not society's norm of what they SHOULD look like. Just live while you are living... PLEASE GET CHECKED FOR BREAST CANCER (men and women) EARLY!
Robin has consistently shown women of EVERY race what CLASS is and she continues to do so even in the face of adversity.
She's not hiding from the facts and her decision to walk the runway au natural is just one more reason to love her..for being REAL. Think how difficult it would be for any one of us to do what she just did.
@Spraggaswifey-- I agree totally..She definitely deserves a standing ovation.
my momma is a TWO TIME breast cancer survivor. when i showed her the youtube vid of robin taking her stroll...she broke down. my best friend from grade school called me last week after about 5 years and we are only 31. she too has seen the breast cancer fight. early detection has her and my mom still around. do those monthly checks ladies.
robin betta wurk.
I watched the entire morning until she walked the catwalk. I like how she showed them getting her ready. I'm not sure why she shaved her head again (maybe they added that from a few days ago, I think she would have looked cute also w/*** short hair), but she looked nice. She did the *** THANG....Go Robin....Get healthy and keep living....It was funny when he told you the earrings weren't approved ahead of time....I hope that was scripted.
She is such a beautiful woman and the epitome of class. She has been such a blessing to so many women with the way she has let us share this journey with her - from that haircut video to this. And to top it all off, she is 100% fierce, gorgeous, and all that other stuff. The Indians & Koreans better watch out - she may start a new trend and kill that billion dollar weave industry we have going.
SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I AM SO PROUD OF HER! SHE IS GONNA MAKE ME SHED A TEAR :'). NOW SEE SHE IS AN POSITIVE EXAMPLE. WOMEN WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING, DON'T BE ASHAME! WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL! HAIR DOESN'T DEFINE YOU AS A PERSON. IT'S JUST A SMALL THING. REMEMBER YOU'RE STILL BEAUTIFUL :). GOOD JOB HUN!
Robin, a lot of us have grown through these years watching you and loving you! Kudos babe 4 taking each step, U js gave someone else the strength they may not have thought they had to fight another day. Best of luck with the Cancer, U R full of fight, so I am not worried for U at all, because I know U will beat it! Love ya gurlie!
