: We here at MediaTakeOut.com used to think that rapper Nas was fairly intelligent. That was before we watched this clip of him and his loony wife Kelis on CNN yesterday. Listen at how they try to defend the use of the 'N Word'.

Sometimes you just gotta shake your head....

Kasey30

lol Blaxican with your sexy ***, what happened to your avi?

blkbetty

Kelis needs to have someone mention her name...What other way to do it then say something stupid and ignorant on CNN?? This is what you have to resort to when your music dosent sell anymore...BTW, I love the way how NAS refers to her as "my friend"...Interesting...

dose210

I bet all the white people are laughing hard bout this..im sure bill o reily loved it.

tha_deacon

i see nas really ridin' this whole ni gga thang out. long gone r tha days nasty nas escobar.

jaylens_mommy

I love Nas...he's a poet...but all I can say is.....Publicity Stutnt. ANd obviously it worked..

MissLouisiana

There is no justification there. It makes us look ignorant amongst ourselves.

Silky

Why is they giving people the right to use dat word after all our black leaders fought and lost their lives to give black folks rights being hung slapped around and being called that name they are rolling over in their graves to hear this!

I'M RIDING WITH NASIR JONES....HE HAS A METHOD FOR ALL OF HIS MADNESS... "..Like Pun said.. "You AIN'T EVEN IN MI CLASA"... They ***! Aw made YOU LOOK You A SLAVE TO A PAGE IN MY RHYME BOOK..." NAS AND IGNORANCE DON'T EVEN BELONG IN THE SAME SENTENCE.....

Shanelle_79

There was nothing ignorant about what he said. The meaning of the *** word is Ignorance and he pretty much said it right, other coutries see amercans as ***'s because of all the ignorant stuff we do and say including not being educated on the facts before calling out someone else igonarance. KEEP DOING YOUR THING NAS AND DROPPING THE KNOWLEDGE.

Swamianan

just another attention *** !

Blaxican

VainChick

Horrible...both of them have simple minds! Stupid!

08onmynewish

Their whole crew had the t-*** and stuff on too, not just Nas and Kelis.

With the way we use the word soooo frequently in every day language, I can't understand why just because he's bringing it to the forefront, why it's such a "big deal" with us now. That's what I fail to understand. We use that word every other sentence, and now since he's drawing attention to it, now it's a problem? What's the difference in buying an album and hearing the word in every other bar and buying an album with the word on the cover? What's the difference?

Nas has a stable history of trying to direct our community(I Know I can, etc.) and I think with this, whether we agree or not, he does have good intentions. He's not just some ignorant rapper, yall sleeeeeep!!! In fact, he's one of the GREATEST lyricist of our time. And really, SOMEONE needs to change the direction of this so called hip-hop, cause it is dead...media wise anyway. No lyrical content whatsoever. So I am behind Nas aaaaall the way. Can't wait for the album.

I wish we could take the beats away from some of this bullsh*t on the airwaves that we support so heavy and listen to what these "artists" are saying, then come back and try and rank someone like Nas...guarantee he'll be on top. Promise.

NADA_PRADA

Two Huxtable kids! Idiots!

DaRealiss

I think its stupid.

KEEL

I think it's funny, because when I said Nas was a crazy f*cker no one wanted to believe it, but now everyone's mad cause he showed his a^s now. He was a loony and he's still a loony, him and her.

mzhollyhood2ya

okay first of all i get where they going with what he talking about but why in the hell would they wear it on them self like its a fashion statement...dummy's i get he trying to say that the reason he named his album that is because the definition means ignorant and in this day in age thats allot of people of all different color so he talking about change and and where people coming from but nas got his meaning twisted cause now they look like hypocrite's big time by wearing a symbol that goes against his cds meaning to nas step back and look at the glass because right now you looking and its half empty

IMO

It's like he's stuck trying to defend something that doesn't make NO sense and the more he explains it the more he realizes it.

"I feel sorry for your mother..."

08onmynewish

@shanelle_79 & Jaylens_mommy-----I agree with both of you.

The title alone should make us as a people curious to see what the album is about. But I guess you have to put "Trap or Die" or "She My Bust It Baby" on an album cover to make black people feel da ish...

Do your thing Nas, Hip Hop needs you.

champhf

when im riding the A train and i see a bunch of non-black people calling each other ***.

i don't see HOW it as a good thing that we are trying to take the power out of the word....

if im greating somone and they say "whats up ma ***" and i say "ya whats up spik" then why is it treated differently by the same people who feel that is ok to call me ***?

champhf

im a big fan of nas im just trying to understand why .....WHY..im already called everything under the sun but for us to say it's ok....comon man like cris rock said...ther is a war between black people who feel they are from a great civilization of africans who were tricked into building this nation called america and people amongst us who feel they are nothing more than ***/I/G/G/A/Z i am more than a *** i am a decendant of great africans.

bella_pr3ciosa

ok

Choclette

As much *** as he talks about black this & black that, you would think he'd have the common *** sense to not give people a reason to say it. He must not have known until he watched the footage how foolish they both looked & sound

IZITJUSTME

On any given day, "ni$$a" is used routinely on this website as well as other popular websites. People are so *** phony because they try to act like they are SOOO offended by the word and yet we say it all the time. I'm gon keep it real...I don't want anyone outside of my race calling me that but within my own race...it really ain't a problem for me. I hear the stories of how people "died" to keep others from calling us "ni$$gas" and I respect that but I also think that the usage of the word these days within our race is often used as a term of endearment. i.e. "Wat up, Ni$$a", or "I love that Ni$$g"! Black people say it to each other all the time. I think that it shows that we have moved passed the day where saying the word was "taboo". Again, this is a word that is acceptable to me only if it is being used within my race and by my race. Controversial? I know but I'm being honest!

COBonner

I want to pose a question to all my Black people. If you could change your race would you and if so then why and which race, if not then why would you stay Black? Me I would stay Black even though I sometimes am ashamed of what my own folks say and do. But I would stay Black because I am proud to be a member of a strong race who in spite of many obstacles has continued to preservere. But if I was to change it would be Japanese. They are very proud, cultured, focused and smart.

08onmynewish

@blackvelvet----I was speakin on Hip hop songs that's out nowadays...that's what I was speakin on. Ok? So I'm gonna ignore the green kool-aid thing-LMAO-(wtf?) U got all that. I hope ur not another idiot who likes to be gangster with a keyboard. I was just giving my opinion on the story you see above. Like I said, I was speaking on songs that FLOOD our airwaves mainly....

How bout you keep your opinions on the story above...too.

LADIVA9

Stupid, crackhead couple.

IZITJUSTME

correction: "I love that Ni$$a"!

BrutallyHonest

I understand everyone's comments on this, pro and con, but I can't bring myself to support Nas on this. I get what he's doing, he's not using the word for the sake of the being controversial, once again Nas is trying to open minds by getting our attention, much like when he tried to have the crucifix in the "you can hate me now" video or his stunts at Summer Jam.

Much like 08mynewwish says, some black folks would love a "trap or die" type title instead of this because it makes them feel safe for some odd reason.

I'm a Nas fan, no doubt, he murdered Joe Camel on Ether despite what the groupies say, but as a black man who doesn't want ANY person using that word (no chit, I let it be known that no person, black or white, can use that word when speaking to me), I can't ride with Nas over this.

He's still one of the greatest ever to touch a mic.

08onmynewish

@blackvelvet----I meant Keep your opinions FOCUSED on the story above...too. So you don't get it twisted, by all means, speak your mind. But try to stay focused.

IMO

It's one thing to say it in a rhyme or when you're talking to your friends, etc. but to wear it on your *** like a fashion statement...is not cool. If a white person just starts saying the *** word like NAS in his advertising, we'd call them racist. If it's not cool for everyone to use - we should not wear it like a name tag and then be upset when the bigots use it. It's an insider word - and if you ain't an insider you *** use it, so let's not act like it's cool because NAS is (or used to be, depending on your point of view)...

Shanny07

@SpraggasWifey: I agree! @BlackBEtty: He didnt refer to Kelis as his friends he was talking about the young women next to her... Watch it again!!

Im not mad at NAS... I actually LOVE IT!! ....All his albums are classic.. He has a beautiful mind and if they put the tshirts in stores I will be buying one!!!

Also,

Kelis is also very intelligent.. If you read some of her interviews you'd see that

PS: They look great!! They are a beautiful couple aw always!!

IZITJUSTME

@IMO:

You are on the money. Thank you!

Greenspoint56

I bet Bill O reilly gonna respond to this one.. .. you best believe that ... He gonna say something racist .. but he gonna sugar coat it ... that way he gets away with it

champhf

@cobonner i wouldn't want to live anyother way but being black...we are what every other race want to be. except to truely be black, so ya they can take rock and roll, they are taking rap, they took the pattend for the light bulb, hell they took credit for the refrigerator, they took credit for the car engine, they took credit for blood transfusion, open heat surgery, the stop light, they took credit for peanut butter, they take credit for even freeing our own race.....so no im fine just the way i am.

TheRealest

HE HAS TO DO SOMETHING TO GET ATTENTION BECAUSE HIS CAREER IS OVER AND KELIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN SLOW TO ME.

TheBestEver

Instead of Nas Focusing on creating a classic Publicity stunt like this has become....He should consentrate more on Producing a classic album......His music has been garbage for some time now!!!!!!!!!!!!

BklynRogue

If you would actually take a moment and actually LISTEN to what Nas had to say, rather than just reading other people's comments and looking at his ***, then you would see that he actually made VALID POINTS.

Let this be known right now, Nas is not some dumb *** motherfcker like Lil Wayne or Flo Rida, he's an intellectual rapper who makes you think and always has a reason behind his actions. Though some of you may think it was wrong and/or tacky of him to exploit this on such a stage like the Grammys, but I see no harm in him doing it. He said that people used the word to demean all people (not just blacks) and he's flipping it around to take power from the word and backed his argument.

And unlike 98% of the "rappers" these days, Nas always comes through with lyrics of superb imagery that also have substance.

Can't wait to hear his album when it drops later in the year.

And in case you haven't known, HIP HOP IS DEAD! Fck what you heard.

crackhead_tony

Well at least we can officially confirm that he's still smoking CRACK!

SEVENTEENMODEL

i trust nas . like shanny07 said all his albums are classic. he is really smart and there maybe be a good reason he's naming it this.

soulsister310

I KNOW WHAT NAZ WAS TRYING TO DO. HE IS TRYING TO EDUCATE EVERYONE THAT THE WORD HAS NO COLOR AND GIVE IT LESS POWER ETC, AND OF COURSE SELL SOME RECORDS. HOWEVER I THINK HE WENT ABOUT IT THE WRONG WAY AND NOW SOME PEOPLE ARE TURNED OFF. INSTEAD SINCE HIP HOP HAS SO MUCH INFLUENCE HE SHOULD POINT PEOPLE TO *** SUCH AS ETHNIC NOTIONS AND THE ONE ABOUT COFFEE ( I THINK ITS CALLED BLACK GOLD) AND THEN COME WITH A MESSAGE. THE WAY HE WENT ABOUT IT WASNT THE BEST MOVE. MAYBE HE SHOULD PUT DOWN THE WEED AND GO BACK TO TEH DRAWING BOARD IF HE WANTS TO GET HIS MESSAGE ACROSS

Crossnation

Yall gotta know what type of rapper Nas is, it's a deeper meaning to why he called it "***", if it was some dumb a$$ non-rapping ringtone rapper then it would be a problem, but this is NAS, he's too smart for that...

soulsister310

I HOPE OTHER MEDIA OUTLETS BE MORE OBJECTIVE THAN MTO. THE BROTHER IS TRYING TO DO SOMETHING GOOD YAL AINT GOTTA BASH THE BROTHER. HELP HIM OUT

BrutallyHonest

Ok while I do understand people not liking Nas' stance on this issue, when exactly did he become a whack rapper and last time I checked Hip Hop is Dead sold units AND was a great album. So where did Nas' career go to die?

I'm sorry if he doesn't make you dance or snap your fingers but there is a market for social-driven hip hop. Ever heard of Common? Talib Kweli? These guys, along with Nas have more talent in their pinkies than the Flo Ridas of the world.

So all of you not feeling what Nas is doing? Fine, but the knowledge-deficient finger-snappers who love that stripper music *** try to use this issue as a forum to attack Nas.

Because we all know, whether you like it or not, Nas is a legend in this game, not a down-south one-hit wonder that will end up on the Surreal Life in 5 years. Let's not get things *** up in here.

HURTEMBAD

Whoever, think Nas is intelligent is not very articulate themselves. He didnt come up with not one valid point in that whole interview. Thats the difference in hip hop now and then. Now: None of these rappers of today talk about any social issues because they dont know any. These modern day rappers have degrees in ignorance. Back in the day brothers like Chuck D, Rakim, KRSONE and Ice Cube used to mash on social issues and when you put a mic in front of them (interview) they had something beneficial to say.

BklynRogue

@ Brutally Honest

You mean...

"Apple bottom jeans...b-boots wit da FURRSS!!! *** da whole club was lookin at HERRRRR!!"

"Supa-MAN dat HO! YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

"she got dat laffyy taffyyy dat kizzz kizz"

That's not real hip hop? LOL/Jp

That down south rap really depresses me. Nas was right when he did 'Hip Hop Is Dead' becauses it really is.

If only REAL rappers like Cassidy, Papoose, Maino, Saigon, The Lox, and DMX could go platinum these days.

BklynRogue

Then again, no one had a problem with a legendary group named

N99az With Attitude, yet they have a issue with the album entitled ***.

BrutallyHonest

Brklyn, don't blame the South, blame the consumer.

They buy that ***. The public doesn't demand quality and that's why the landscape is such. As long as you market to dumbazzes and they buy it then why, as a business, would you stop?

Fact is, NOBODY is selling records anymore and the one thing I give the South credit for is making records for the CLUBS, people will buy records they can dance to nowadays because they are too STUPID to take in a message. As a public we have the attention span of a gnat, so steppin fetchit booty music like Flo Rida sells.

We only have ourselves to blame.

HUEmanbro

Actually alot of ya'll don't even know what the real meaning of "***" ya'll just took what yt said about it and ran with it. ***, actually mean divine one or god. It's black His story month black folks. Star learing your true his story and not be ashamed of it.

Words of Af-Ra-Kam (African) origins that came from the original word, "***-G-R (PROUNOUNCED EN-JER)

***-g-r (Egyptian;pronounced en-jer) = God ***-t-y-r (Egypt; pronounced net-ger) = God, Devine Negash (Ethiopia; ne-gash) = King Negus (Ethiopia; ne-goos) = Emperor Nkosi (Xhosa; en-kosi) = God Ndaba (Zulu; en-daba) = Council/Officials, Naga (East Indian, Nubian [***] = People / Naga or Naacal (India, Mexico = Serpent King and/or Serpent Queen) Nugarmarta (West African = People (See the writings of Ibn Buttata's journey to West Africa)

THE WORD "***-G-R" (EN-JER) AFTER IT WAS CORRUPTED BY THE EUROPEANS

*** = (Latin or Black/African pronounced "ni-ger.")

Nero = Italian for Black Negre = French for Black Negro = Spanish for Black The English called Blacks "Moor" or "Black-a-Moor" before they began using the word "Negro" to refer to Blacks. The European kidnappers stated in the past that Blacks were found on the bank of the "***" river, which runs through the countries of *** and ***. ***-Congo language which has its roots in the Cameroon region of Africa. In fact, there are thousands of African words from Cameroon to Kenya that have both prefixes and suffixes that are identical to both Chinese and Japanese languages (see also African Presence in Early Asia, by Ivan Van Sertima; Transaction Publishers)

In the Case of "Ni-Han" which may mean "rising sun," there is also a sacred meaning that is found in the word "***-ger," or "ne-gro." Yet, the racist terms "nip," and "***" or "***," used by racists were and are being used without any understanding of their original meanings. Only hatred and envy comes out of the mouths of those who use racial epithets in their attempt to insult and denegrade others. However, it is up to us to study our history and make these racist words impotent, while at the same time, understanding their original meaning.

Connection with the prefix "ni" with sacred and life:

Ni'le = The Nile River, Life to the Egyptians

Ni-ger = River in West Africa *** = Nation in West Africa *** = Nation in West Africa

Nago = Racist term used by some SE Asians to refer to Black Melanesians of Africoid origins

Nago-Mina = African nationality in ***

Naghual = Aztec word for Shaman or priest. The first Olmec Shamans in Mexico came from *** and elsewhere in West Africa (see "BLACK CIVILIZATIONS OF AMERICA" http://community.webtv.net/paulnubiaempire

STAYPOPPIN01

I knew it was a deeper message other than color behind his movement!

spraggaswifey

@BrutallyHonest----I REALLY RESPECT YOU AND YOUR THOUGHTS....I DON'T ALWAYS AGREE WITH YOU BUT YOU HAVE VALID POINTS ALL THE TIME...THAT LAST COMMENT WAS ON POINT.....Chim_Pansy---WHEN HAS NAS EVER CARED ABOUT PUBLICITY?...THAT'S WHY NAS IS RESPECTED BY ALMOST EVERY HIP HOP ARTIST...HE REALLY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THAT....AND I DON'T KNO WHO SAID IT BUT KELIS IS NOT A FOOL...SHE IS A VERY SMART WOMAN.....

Dayummadeulook

Wow.. and the big deal is?????

Dayummadeulook

i agree with spraggaswifey....

08onmynewish

@Bklynrogue AND Brutallyhonest----I agree with you both 100%.

Especially Brutallyhonest, it's the consumers. Just goes to show as a whole, where our heads are at.

kiwikream28

NAS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST, SO LISTEN AND LEARN! NAS IS STREET POET AND THUG. HE DONT CONFIRM TO ANYTHING! GOT TO LOVE THAT OR AT LEAST RESPECT IT!

lovetolive

ok WAIT A MIN.. did anyone catch what he said about black people only being able to vote for another 23 years..what is that about ...somebody comment if they know what he is talking about.

WHYUMAD

I respect nas for his stand. How many of you knew about a law that aoblished our rights to vote after 23 years?? C'mon man, nas is pushing the envelope, I respect him even more for this! No one rides with some one who goes against the norm, cause nas doesn't fall in line and talk about how many b!tches he's smashed, or how he sold 50 kilos of peruvian coke, he's wack, out of his mind, stupid etc. Ya'll need to respect the man's angle at this.

Marcus Garvey had angle he came with, Malcolm X had an angle, all of them were chastized for the betterment of our people, I feel what nas is *** is no different.

Believe it or not, like it or not Nas will be amongst the artists that are talked about for many years to come, even after death. He'll be amongst pac, big, bob marley, Ray, all the legends.

kiwikream28

well is talking. Blacks were only able to vote for up to cetain about of yaers. So Blacks will have to renew the right to vote very soon! Nas is smart!

lovetolive

@ whyumad ...do you know about the law ..if so holla at me i want to know about it .

WHYUMAD

BTW, What nas said is far from ignorant. Its sh!t you need to listen to and pay attention to.

plug

he need to leave that stuff along

kiwikream28

Read up on it, so that you can confirm what he is speaking on! Im out its 5pm

SkiTTlez

How can anyone say he is NOT doing this for publicity?

Walking onto the red carpet with *** across his chest is gonna attract the media, which is all he ever wanted!

I totally respect his music, but this sh*t is ridiculous. If he wanted to make a statement, he could have just left it as the title of one of his songs

HIP HOP IS DEAD was a statement. *** is just a cry for attention

kiwikream28

Its true Plug! lol

lovetolive

@kiwi ..i thought i was pretty informed but wooooooow. i did not know that ..nas is a smart mf... im gonna do some research on that. we as black should all be infomred of that. u know the white ppl who knew was not about to say nothin ...that's f'uped

soulsister310

Chim_Pansy Um no thats not exactly what I am saying. It wasnt about the press its about educating people on the word and the history of the word in music.

G23_A_M_G

Nas do what you do, you got 100% support from me.

Its o.***. to think outside the box.

jakey_natey

Like everyone else, I feel Nas is DEFINITELY one of the best and is da truth on the mic, as far as his opinion on the word I feel everyone who uses the word (black ppl that is) has there own reasoning and logic behind it, some are ignorant and some make since...His maade since to me, do I agree with him NO...Me, personally, I would honestly slap the ish out of anyone outside of the race saying it to my face. Like seeing the "white girl" in his camp(or whatever she was) wearing the *** bothers me. Then again I'm from the south and I have very vivid memories as a young child hearing the word and it still to this day hurts thinking about those times...Do I use the word?...YES, am I offended hearing other black ppl using it?...No I have my own reasoning behind that...

WHYUMAD

@ lovetolive check here [link to external website removed]

I'vebeen doing some reading real quick, they say its a hoax, but I think otherwise. do some reading yo, its not hard to find

CooksFromPENN

Ayo NAS, when i first heard the album title i knew exactly what it was going to be at that moment. Its funny how these dudes still don't understand. They are the ones who need this album the most. In my opinion there were only 3 rappers who ever could do this. the first is 2pac who already did it throughout his career but not dedicated to one album. The second is Icecube who already done it with Death Certificate and parts of Amerikka's most wanted. And the last is NAS. as i wait impatiently for this to come out i put up my black *** and salute you my dude!!!

ddawg

What store would sell this ***? This is why the grammies floped. Music is losing its soul.

Ole_Giza

First props to whyumad and lovetolive - you two obviously got something from the interview that these others did not.

For real for real, the voting rights act is just that an act. Blacks ability to vote is not a law. It is an act that has to be periodically ratified. Meanwhile people born in other countries that become American right to vote IS law.

Also, if you travel outside this country and you are black no matter where you go you are likely to meet someone who will innocently enough call you ni66@ like its ok. So much for a term of endearment.

And its true John Lennon (a *** Beatle) did have a song called "Woman is the ***!663r of the World", Richard Pryor had "That ***!663r's Crazy" and "Bi-centennial ***!663r", NWA had "efil4zraggin", and CUbe had "The Wrong ***!663r to FK With".

Don't be a ***!663r - learn something.

BrutallyHonest

@spraggaswifey

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not really looking for everyone to agree with me either, it wouldn't be America if they did.

I have my opinions of the South and while they may not be popular ones, they are mine. When I speak I speak with facts as my basis, I don't make up *** and I try to come informed.

I'm open-minded enough to know that the South, while corny musicwise, isn't really the problem, WE ARE THE PROBLEM because no record executive, no DJ, no hype man, is more powerful than the will of the people. If we as a people decide not to accept the Soulja Boys and Laffy Taffy negroes of the world then and only then will hip hop become respectable again. I even have more respect for the Black Eyed Peas because at the core of their music lies a RESPECT for the art form and forefathers of hip hop that does not reside down south.

Think about this: Why is that a rock band like Daughtry AND Bruce Springsteen can both sell records? It's because ROCK MUSIC fans both embrace the future while still loving the music of those past generations. Why don't we do that in hip hop? Even down south, if the Geto Boys were still around, they wouldn't sell records because we don't support our legends like other genres of music.

Look at Country: Carrie Underwood AND George Strait can both sell records.

R&B: Sade sold 3 million records after a 10 year hiatus and Chris Brown can do the same at age 17.

Hip Hop leaves talent behind to go to the next best thing.

motorcity

NAs is crazy smart and clever.the same thing he did wit the whole hip hop is dead.he's doing again.open yo minds and try too get a real overstanding of what the brother is trying say or address, then make a opinion.KNOWLEDGE OF SELF is the TRUE KEY>think on that.

coop1974a

The problem I saw was that Nas went way over the interviewers head. As well as the people that are calling him ignoranant. Do people not know that *** Gregory had a book call ***?

Krime

I HAD TO MAKE AN ACCOUNT JUST SO I CAN SAY HOW *** STUPID ALL YOOU PEOPLE ARE ON HERE!!! THIS IS NAS!!! WAT IF SOULJA BOY WAS WEARING THIS ***?? THEN, I WOULD VOUCH FOR YOU GUYS BEING SO MAD, BUT THIS IS NAS!!! THIS MAN IS SO INTELLIGENT & SO WISE. MAYBE IF YOU GUYS WOULD ACTUALLY LISTEN 2 WAT HE HAS TO SAY....

"We’ve all felt discriminated against whether it’s in the Dominican Republic, whether its in China, whether it’s in Iraq, with soldiers getting their heads blown off for reasons we don’t know why... The meaning of the word is supposed to be “ignorant,” he continued, “but there’s money being made off us so called ‘ignorant’ people, so no longer are just Black people *** today, it’s also me and you"

NAS YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT... *** WAT MTO HAS TO SAY

dose210

what happened to sincere from belly? i guess he's still in africa.

motorcity

pac4lyfe

I think Nas is changing the game with this. I dont think he committed a crime.

BrutallyHonest, don't categorize every artist in the South. We have quality artists such as Outkast, Goodie Mob, UGK, Ludacris, T.I., etc. There is some corny sh!t coming from your area too. I will get to naming if you want me to.

lovetolive

@OLE_GIZA...OK SO I DID SOME RESEARCH ...AND IT SAID UNDER THE 15TH AMENDMENT IT WAS LAW FOR EVERYONE TO VOTE REGARDLESS OF RACE...NOW I LOOKES UP THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1965 PASSED BY PRESIDENT JOHNSON..ACCORDING TO WHAT I READ THIS ACT WAS PUT IN PLACE TO HELP AGAINST DISCRIMINATION AT THE VOTING POLLS AND HAS TO BE RENEWED EVERY 25 YEARS.IF I AM WRONG OR MISSING SOMETHING PLEASE LET ME KNOW ..I AM VERY VERY OPENED MINDED AND WANT TO LEARN. FOR THOES WHO ARE LOST AT WHAT I AM TLAKING ABOUT AT THE END OF THE VID NAS MADE A COMMENT ABOUT BLACK CAN ONLY VOTE FOR 23 MORE YEARS....OK PPL THIS SHOULD BE A DISCISSION ..NOT WHAT BEYONCE WORE TO THE GRAMMYS ..LETS EDUCATE OURSELVES BLACK PPL.

Its good that they are making a big deal out of this..All it means is more record sales for NAS..Dont act like there arent any other rappers that Have ***!GG@ in there names or song titles..He cant make an album titled ***%r, but these white movie producers can make movies, that have the word ***%r said in the movie..And there is no problem with that.. The sh!t is stupid...

DriftGirl

I sat here thinking if I should weigh in on this..being that im Asian.

I will say that to me it seems as tho he sold out the masses to sell records.

The reason I say this is because NAS has, Money, status and power that us common folk (Asian, black, white, whatever) dont have. He isnt subjected to the type of harm that that word causes the average person in the street.

He may be from your hood...but he can get up and leave whenever he wants, call a high priced attorney when he feels like he's been treated unfairly because of race, etc, etc.

The people who support his music dont really have the same options. He shouldve thought of the people who support him

what Sean combs did last week was amazing and sent a message that America will pay attention to....most people looked at his *** and shook thier collective heads without hearing a word of what he had to say.

I dont know if id have another opinion if this hadnt been tied to his upcoming record. He has a voice in his community and shouldve been expressing this a while ago...not only when its time to sell records.

I have no idea what it is to be black in America. But I have had my share of being treated unfair because of my race...

I would break my brothers leg if he titled his (wannabe) CD "***".

their gear?? not a good look....for anyone ;)

For the record, Ive always kinda liked sum of his music, but im a west coast head....Pac 4 life ;)

@CEBA Thats the ignorance in YOU, by looking at and commenting on a married man's wife!!! Please understand!!

jakey_natey

I feel ya'll saying we all have been disriminated against and that's TRUE, BUT the fact is when ANYONE says ***, u don't think about dominican, chinese, iraq, the word *** although the (newer)dictionary says ignorant person, the fact is it came from what the white people called there slaves to degrade and be-little them, point blank, period!!!!!!!

DriftGirl

wow, MTO censored the Asian version of the "*** word"...

Much props for that!! :)

dose210

yo, i don't use this word not only cuz im hispanic but it's a racist word period. i understand how black's use it amongst eachother as a term of endearment and have no problems with them doing that but i don't hear white ppl calling each other [EXPLETIVE] or honkeys. now he may be using the word as his album title to get a point across but think about it, peep this scenario-your on a bus or train and 3 white boys listening to their cd player or ipods when one says to another "hey u got that new nas cd? the other says oh the ***'word album? yea i got it the other day. that ***'word cd is off da chain man. the third one says i kool that he named his album ***'word cuz now we can say it without gettin our *** kicked since its the name of the album..

KeyZ

yall not listening to him. look at the jena 6, that if it wasnt for BET...half the country wouldnt have even know about it cause the media wasnt talking much about that. look at the nooses poppin up all over the place. nas aint ignorant, its the people that still in 2008 uses racism to dislike people ignorant. dont hate the man for putting a spotlight on it. u know somewhere, theirs a racist man looking at nas, his chain, kelis, watever and im sure everybody in here knows the word hes calling nas the minute he speaks about it...come on yall. its reality, its not always right, but dont blame nas for being the one to put that in peoples faces like look, this is what we dealing with hundreds of years later.

REAL TALK

08onmynewish

There's a difference between being a rapper and being a lyricist. When you mention names like Rakim, Krs-1, Nas, etc., they are lyricist. Lyrics with meaningful content. The media does not want "us" to focus on that, it's too positive, that's why these RAPPERS are on top of the game right now. Nas has a movement in mind, trust me. The media knows this is bullsh*t that we're listening to, supporting, and focusing on, so that's who they are gonna put at the top-while they laugh behind our backs. The dj's at the radio station have no control over what's being played, contrary to young people's belief, the media does. It's like brain washing. Once you hear a song over and over and over, you find yourself nodding your head. It's sad that we don't know this. That's why a lot of artists are going independent now, they realize that these record labels, the media, etc., is not "on their side". Nas is just going about it in a different way, with change in mind. If the media gonna put da ish out that says it anyway, why not put it all the way in the limelight, make them (the media) scratch their heads. They don't know HOW to take this man now, and that's a good thing, cuz his lyrics have meaning, and the attention alone will increase ablum sells, making more and more people focus on what he's saying, and listen. Then maybe hip-hop will come back to life after all, opening the door for more real artists to get the attention they deserve. They know Nas is not "just another rapper". Remember "Self-Destruction"(KRS-1)? Doesn't it seem like that after that, hip-hop kinda lost air time? Real hip-hop that is. Think about it. They didn't want us to hear that! Too positive for the black community. Since then it's been "blah, blah, blah" on the radio. I can't remember another truly positive song that actually got air time/attention. That's how I look at it. It's a good thing. I'm sure the media is like "WTF???" HAHAHA. And while they're doing that, Nas albums sell, his songs/lyrics are heard, and hip-hop is born again. He's one of the FEW true lyricist able to at least be heard, get a song on the radio,he knows this, and I think he's using that for what it's worth. And das wassup. He's smacking the media in the face and they don't even realize it.

raythedamager

You go Nas! Stand up for what u beleive in. Thats whats wrong with our people. We arent willing to stand up for something we beleive in. For all the people on here and not on here. Whhy do you have a problem with this. Its being said on almost every street corner, every loud stereo. If you have a problem with the word figure out a way to take this problem to the Lawmakers. Dont knock Nas for trying to make a point. ***!gg@r has said on almost every rap album for yrs. So why has'nt anyone made a big deal of that. You even hear it in movies too. So you tell me its ok if you hear it all throughout the music, but its not ok when someone puts it up front to make a point?

Ok these maybe my last post on this subject but for those who would like to learn a little more. go to [link to external website removed] and see how money is being made over this word.

yankees26

Yo...I'm calling out all hip-hop. That *** that Nas said made no effin sense. We got to stop fooling ourselves when these brothers start spewing nonsense, and we try to flip it into some deep meaningful ***. I consider Nas one of the leaders of hip hop, but this is just a publicity ploy. Look, CNN already is on the story. When the album drops, it'll be talked about in several media outlets. If he had a valid reason for that name, I'd support him; but Nas ain't saying anything relevant.

DeeRay

While i can undertsand Nas' view, I cant agree with how hes presenting himself. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE HATERS WANT. THIS WILL MAKE IT OK FOR THEM TO SAY IT RIGHT IN YOUR FACE.FOOLISHNESS LIKE THIS WILL MAKE IT LEGAL FOR THE FOLKS ON YOUR JOB OR IN GENERAL PUBLIC TO CALL YOU ANY KIND OF RACIAL SLUR. If he wanted to make a statement about IGNORANCE(which is what he stated) then thats the word he should have in bold letters on his ***. Granted it would not garner the same attention, but that goes to show you what hes looking for. Nas has great points always has but this is too extreme. Not enough people will take the time to understand him. This will be mainly misunderstood and used as a vehicle of hate.

Ole_Giza

lovetolive - True it was drafted to prevent DISCRIMINATION AT THE VOTING POLLS. That fact is that the strategies used to discriminate are applicable by law if the act is not ratified. Also the the only group of people impacted by the act are black citizens of the U.S. This is what Nas is address, he's saying cut the BS and make our right to vote law as opposes to a conditional privilege.

DcAhmad

Man....Nasir Jones, we always hang ourselves, this man was doing good. I've been a fan since illmatic(1994)....I can't support this. That *** Kanye needs to *** the hell too before they ban his ***....

@ole_giza..thanks ..i think i get it now ...if the act is gone the "other" ppl can legaly stand in our way of voting unopposed. yea thats some messed up stuff ...BLACK PPL WAKE UP.

raythedamager

@Dee1anonly

If thats the case then its been alright for them to say it in our face. Do you listen to rap music? Do you hear how many times these cats say the *** word on their album? This has been going on for YRS. Tell me, who do you think buys rap music? It sure aint blacks, thats for sure. So its not a valid point to say they can call us that in our face. If that was the case it would already be going on. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC...

EzyBreeze216

NOW I FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT HE'S DOIN....

N*GGER = OUR SOCIETY RIGHT NOW!!

everyone...black, white, asian, spanish, indian...all values have been lost through this society of "do what's new and in" and not being true to self....I'M LISTENING NAS!!!!

AND BIG UPS TO KELIS FOR SHOWING HOW A WOMAN SHOULD RIDE WIT THEIR MAN, THROUGH IT ALL!

dose210

the *** word will always be around *** everybody knows dat jus like the word spic. but i think it's irresponsible to name it as an album title. half of my family is black although im mexican but ive had *** with ppl calling my cuzins the *** word. it's very hurtful emotionally even for me to see what they go through and wat my child will go through cuz hes half black even tho hes too young to experience this yet. wat i meant earlier is that he is giving non blacks the right to say the ***'word cuz of his album title without seeming rasict. ive been around white ppl and hispanics when there wasnt blacks around and they use it freely cuz it's the trendy thing to say nowadays.

Ole_Giza

FOr the record I disagree with the sentiment that says He is giving people license to use the word. On the contrary its a observable fact that anytime our slang words or style gets over exposed sooner than later it gets played out.

Whens the last time you did any of the following: Spun on your head Said Fresh, Dope, or Jiggy Wore a platinum Chain or Coogi sweater Bamboo Earring and Indian Chokers (ladies)

Maybe the *** word will be ushered to the land of forgotten fads along with the above and more.

The first Olmec Shamans in Mexico came from *** and elsewhere in West Africa (see "BLACK CIVILIZATIONS OF AMERICA" [link to external website removed]

Nas, know what he's doing!!

lovetolive

I MUST SAY SOMETHING ---did anybody notice that the *** word was not censored....that shows how main streem the word is now ..

Damn

@motorcity

At first I was going to comment on the article but reading your comments have compelled me to comment on you.

YOUR SPELLING AND GRAMMAR is atrocious!

I cannot as a college graduate (and black woman) allow you to continue to butcher the English language any longer!

"I SWEAR SOME OF YALL DUMD *** NEED SOME ENGLISH CLASSES.READ A BOOK SOME TIME WHY DONT YOU AND JUST NOT A FASHION BOOK OR XXL.FEED THE BRAIN."

WTF??? What does that mean? Lmao.

raythedamager

@dose210

You want to talk about irresponsible, tell these guys to stop saying the *** word all throughout there albums. You said you said you are a Pac fan, me too. But tell me this, did not Tupac have an album called: Strictly for My ***!gg@z. Was that irresponsible too?

blaxitive

I am impressed. There are actually some intelligent people here today. Sharing potent information for the masses. Everyone that really listens to NAS already know where he coming from. His style, lyrics come on you know he take you into his music with your thoughts. Makes you see and hear things that would have otherwise been lost had someone else said it. Open your mind and stop jumping on the bandwagon of others.

BlackThought

Kids, this is your brain after dropping out of the 8th grade. Dose210, The word might always be around but that certainly doesn't give credence to those that continue to proliferate such a hate filled word. Oh by the way, the next time you choose to use it, think about those countless black men, women and babies who were hanged from trees as the life was sucked from their bodies. The last word many of them heard was the chants of the *** word from hundreds sometimes thousands on white onlookers. I can't believe this!!! I just can not believe this. Not only am I hurt, but I am truly disgusted. My soul looks back in wonder!!!!

DeeRay

@BrutallyHonest

Youve made excellent points today. I dont know how I would know that though. Its very possible that I cant read as I am one of the people you labeled "country bumpkin"

Everybody in the south is not feeling Soulja Boy or the likes

EzyBreeze216

***...john lennon really does have a song called "WOMAN ARE THE N*GGERS OF THE WORLD"...

MIGHT I SAY, A VERY POWERFUL STATEMENT AND AMAZING SOMEONE WAS TRUE TO THE FEELING OF THAT TIME...A WHITE MAN WHO ACTUALLY SAW THE RACISM OF THE WORLD AND HAD THE *** TO SPEAK ON IT....

THERE'S A LOT IN HISTORY WE DON'T EVEN KNOW...

NAS NEEDS TO BE SUPPORTED PEOPLE, UNDERSTAND WHAT HE'S TRYING TO DO HERE...

JUST LOOK, NO ONE IS EVEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE "WHY", TO CAUGHT UP ON "WHAT"

Ole_Giza

HUEmanbro - the *** word, ***, negre, and negro are derived from NECRO which means dead. In most european languages G, C, and *** are interchangeable without distorting the meaning of the word. It does not mean black and there are no linguistic connections between it and the words like neter, negus, etc.

ReggieBushGurl87

HE DIDN'T HAVE TO WEAR THE *** TO MAKE A POINT AND KELIS I JUST DON'T KNOW HER *** JUT NEED SOME ATTENTION RIGHT NOW.

DeeRay

@raythedamager

u miss my point. TODAY they may say it under thier breaths or behind my back.I cant change that. TOMMOROW it want be just on rap songs or between friends. Imagine if your white co-worker said GOOD MORNING ***/I/G/G/A!!!

Gt2lvit

I DIDN'T LOOK AT THE VIDEO YET. BUT I DO KNOW THIS. THE "***" WORD IS HERE TO STAY. WE (BLACK FOLKS) HAVE TAKEN A WORD THAT WAS SO CRUEL TO OUR RACE AND TURNED IT INTO A POSITIVE THING. THEY MIGHT AS WELL TAKE ALL CURSE WORDS FROM US. IT WASN'T A PROBLEM FOR OUR FATHERS AND MOTHERS USING THE WORD IN THE 70'S. BUT NOW THAT WE HAVE TAKEN IT AND MADE THE WORD A POSITIVE, IT'S BAD. FOCUS ON POVERTY, HUNGER, CHILDREN. BUT LET'S NOT PUT ANY MORE EFFORT IN THIS AREA. NI__A IS HERE TO STAY.

dose210

@raythedamager i know tupac named his album that but that was in what 94? it's not like he did it today. also, he once said that the ***'word ending with an er was racist and ***'word ending with an a meant a term of endearment. he's not alive now to comment on nas and his choice to name his album but i know he never named his album ***'word ending with an er.

@black thought i saw my comment and im sure you thought i said the ***'word since it said expletitive but i said the word will be around like the word spi* referring to mexicans..plus what makes you think im kool with what happened to blacks back in the day? what is the point of your disrespect?

thickwitit78

If he wants to name is album ***.I.G.G.E.R. then that's cool. But to have those white females wearing a *** with the word on it is *** crazy. He trying to get them white *** [EXPLETIVE] up. I hope they don't get too brave and think that just cause the word is on the *** that they can say it.

dose210

@raythedamager When did i tell you i was a 2pac fan??? lol wtf

soulsister310

to DriftGirl

I AM SURPRISED YOU SAW NAZ AS A SELL. I SEE HIM AS ONE OF TEH FEW THAT DIDNT GO COMMERCIAL TO SELL TO THE MASSES. HES STILL TALKIN POLITICS INSTEAD OF CLOTHES AND BOOZE. AS I STATED IN MY POST EARILER, HE HAS A GREAT MESSAGE BUT THE WAY HE WENT ABOUT IT WAS ALL WRONG AND PEOPLE WOULD BE TURNED OFF.

soulsister310

i MEANT TO TYPE SELL OUT.

BrutallyHonest

@pac4lyfe:

By all means, please run down the corny chit that has come out of the East Coast, because I don't remember ever saying that wasn't the case? There has been a ton of *** come from the East, but I can GUARANTEE you that for every ONE corny song that comes from the East, Midwest and West, TEN corny songs come from the South. So please, by all means start naming them... I've also never said that EVERY person down south loves Soulja Boy. I can tell exactly who buys Soulja Boy and the rest of the corny chit from down south: Clueless negroes and white people from ALL parts of the country. So please, before you make accusations, provide some factual information. That being said, I respectfully appreciate our correspondence.

@the1andonly:

Don't let sarcasm get in the way of intelligent banter. I've never said (and please pull up my posts if you must) that all people from down south are country bumpkins or dumb, but if that's how you feel then there's not much I can do to change that.

lovetolive

PLEASE READ---NOW THE *** WORD MEANS IGNORANT RIGHT ...WELL I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN IF YOU SPEAK THINGS ENOUGH THEY WILL COME TO PASS RIGHT. OK we as blacks say we are gonna take the *** word back and make it positive. you see this every where right . women call other women b!tches as a term of enderment. we callin each othre hoe's and what not. there was a time you would get yo face beat for callin somebody these words. Now that the *** word has been so accepted amoung its own ppl..look how IGNORANT we as a ppl have become..more than any other race. WE are What we speak about ourselves ppl. women started callin other women hoes now our young girls think the stuff is cute...Think about it Wake up my ppl .."for my people parish for a lack of knowledge".

Jae

It's a shame that Nas and Kelis are part of the black race.Boycott that album to put his azz out of business.Stop the madness. How dumb did Kelis look to interrupt as the reporter is making her close remarks.I'm embarassed for them.Dumb, dumb, dumb.

DeeRay

Nas does not represent this black person. I cant co-sign with that.

HUEmanbro

***, does not mean ignorant the white man change it around to mean ignorant. Just like they change and used the swastika symbol for evil when it was symbol of good.

Growing

I guess I'm not there yet. These pictures, that video, breaks my heart.

tempertease

i agree with Nas everybody got their likes and dislikes yo brutally honest lookin like a mixture of Ginuwine and 'PUNK''from "I LOVE newyork WHAT UP SEXY

roxiehart

Nas said hip hop is dead was last year so let the people who were offended worry about it. The word is used all the *** time so get off his dik. And how was that an embarrassment. CNN lost there credibility when they started having non stop coverage of britney's meltdown.

la_nenita

no wonder hip hop is dead. im glad al *** is already on nas' azz but 1 day,nas is gonna be banned in the music industry b/c he think using that word is alright,no its not OK.he let that white bytch 2 rock the T-*** say "***!gger".i hope hes gonna get *** up when he come back 2 his hometown in queens.

UrbanSavvy

NAS AND KELIS ARE BOTH LAME. WHAT'S NEXT DRESSING UP LIKE SLAVES AND CLEANING FLOORS? I USED TO THIS THAT CAT HAD SOME SENSE NOW I KNOW HIS CAREER IS OVER. THIS PUBLICITY STUNT THEY ARE PULLING CAN ONLY DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD. IS FAME AND FORTUNE WORTH THAT MUCH TOO THEM. ARE THEIR LIVES SO UNFULFILLED THAT THEY HAVE TO GO OUT AND ACT LIKE IDIOTS TO GET ATTENTION. NAS IS AN IGNORANT *** AND I THROUGH HIS CDS IN THE GARBAGE. I LOVE HIPHOP , BUT I WILL NOT SUPPORT THIS ***. KELIS SONG *** EVEN COUNT AS MUSIC.

EliteEbonyBeauty

What......I smell Bobby and Whitney.

soulsister310

I REALLY THINK NAZ INTENTIONS WERE GOOD HOWEVER HIS METHOD WAS ALL WRONG. TEH *** WAS A BAD BAD STUPID MOVE. I THINK HE IS TRYING TO REDEFINE A REALLY SICK WORD. HE FEELS THAT THE WORD IS UNIVERSAL FOR ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN DISCRIMINATED ALTHOUGH I CANT SAY THAT I AM FEELING IT BUT I THINK WE SHOULD GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO WORK OUT THE KINKS BEFORE WE HANG OUT TO DRY. LIKE I SAID BEFORE HE NEEDS TO PUT DOWN THE WEED AND HEAD BACK TO TEH DRAWING BOARD. HE HAS A GREAT OPPURTUNTIY TO POINT SOME KIDS TO SOME GREAT BOOKS AND ***. I CAN SEE THAT HE AND HIS WIFE ARE TRYING ALTHOUGH THOUGH THEY ARE *** UP.

BajanRN1

aaa he made a gud point its a political statement

DeeRay

@BRUTALLYHONEST

Theres no way to GUARANTEE that unless you work for Nielson soundscan.

Besides how did we get to hating on music from the south anyway.

Really what is the difference between 50cent and 36Mafia. They both say ***/i/g/g/a and perpetuate violence. They both exploit women. They just do it in a diffrent accent.

roxiehart

it was always obvious to me that the word *** was a play on the word negro (some whites didn't feel the need to enunciate) and it became insulting after slavery when blacks knew they had rights...the definition was changed so that white peopl could justify using the word

DeeRay

@raythedamager where ru?

DreDog

***...lemme scroll back up for a minute.....I mean ***!!

Why oh why did they have to wear that ***? That is straight ***' crazy fo real.

marz

I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY BUT I KNOW ONE THING! I AINT NO ***!!!***!

DreDog

*** some of these posters think that they have all the *** answers like we supposed to say "yassa massa" to thier wack yet long azz comments....Newflash...no one gives a *** about that jibber....move on to something else please.

Ebony_Cutie84

What was Nas talking about with "black ppl not being allowed to vote after 23 years"? (Sry I'm from Toronto)

QueenT

*** has become the norm in addressing people nowadays....

She_So_Fly

soulsister310 I agree 1000 percent. Nas went about this 'publicity stunt' all wrong.

CeeCe

ummmmmmmm No! The publicity stunts gone bad!

raythedamager

Im here Dee1anonly

DeeRay

@Antidumb

my thoughts exactly

IDIOTS will never understand that. Nas is a cool dude. But on this one he is full of shi.t.

STAYPOPPIN01

Some white boys probably will get their jaw dented for the first couple of weeks! I'm glad he said they were one too if they engage in ignorance!

They can't hide from the message of the song, they can say it, but he shines the light on the ones saying it, he calls white women one, so they would look like fools saying it to try and irritate us!!

That Uncle Tom reporter would be the first to turn his back on you, and deny giving you a helping hand!

Can't let people pull your strings like that, if the word means ignorant then it takes a *** to call you a ***!!!

DeeRay

@raythedamager

did i clarify ?
