: MediaTakeOut.com has exclusively learned that last night in New Orleans, police officers beat, tasered and arrested R&B singer Tank.
We spoke exclusively with Tank's business associate Ira Dewitt, the CEO of Notifi Music Group, who witnessed the entire incident. Ira explained, "We were leaving the NBA All Star Game heading to an afterparty at the House Of Blues ... we were walking in that direction and the cops came and completely blocked us." She continued, "They got all in our face and got really belligerent ... Apparently there was a shooting in the area. "
That's when, according to Ira - all hell broke loose. "Tank was like 'Why are you gonna be like that' and we started walking away. But they grabbed Tank and threw him against the wall. [The cops] bent one of his arms up and the other arm back and asked him to do something. Tank told them that he couldn't and before you knew it there were three cops all over him ... and they tased him."
And the 5 foot Ira didn't escape the police abuse herself. Ira explained, "One of the cops threw me to the ground and manhandled me."
Tank was subsequently arrested and booked on three separate charges. He's been released on bail and is recuperating from injuries sustained in the incident.
While none of his injuries appear life threatening, he suffered numerous lacerations and will need to have a tetanus shot (as a precaution from the tasering).

Now my mother always told me that there is 3 sides to every story.... 1. His Side 2. Thier side... 3. The TRUTH....now if this is actually what went down......NEW ORLEANS police need to focus on those gold wearing thugs slangin dope on the streets or robbing people!! Focus on cleaning the streets up for the residents!!! Tank my man you have been in and out of rumors/gossip/whatnot and it's really tarnishing your image.
@ Iloveyellaboys, you made me smile, and I am SOOOO not clownin, but you posted your 1st comment hella strong and then came back with "Who's Tank?" You made me smile. That was soooo cute and funny to me....... I'm Like Dang Baby girl, you don't even know who the hell they're talking about to begin with. I promise this is not a clown. I just thought that was cute funny. I might not even need my starbucks now, cause it's hard as hell to get a smile outta me this early in the morning, but YOU made me crack one, thanks, have a great day.
this all star went off without a hitch....everybody was afraid 2 come here but look @ what happened in vegas last year...i knew the media, namely MTO, would try 2 find a way 2 further degrade NO..I dont believe that he was refused entry and he was walking away saying why u gotta act like that...thats bs...he had been drinking, was on some hollywood ish(do u know who i am) and that sh*t dont fly here...celebs are amazing-in NO we could care less about that ish, nuccas getting money! tracy mcgrady said he wouldnt partcipate if all star was held in NO cuz he feared for his familys safety...HUH?? what kind of MAN are YOU?...i smell P.USSY...nopd are doing there job with the LIMITED resources provided...keep letting the media skewer ur perception, sh.it is real down here, the government leaving folks was only the beginning-they arent doing sh.it, regardless of the photo ops yall c on tv...real talk!
while i'm not for police brutality, how do we know this is the whole truth? we would like to believe this so we can have an excuse to hate white people in authority. i'm not to thrilled about them either but i do know some of these black entertainers be feelin like they above the law and can say or do what they want w/o repercussions. yeah it's real f_cked up, but if they arrested him, he wasnt a sheep like the story would have us believe
WHAT IN THE HELL???
NOW I KNOW THIS SOME ***! PO-PO'S WONDER WHY THEY BE GETN *** THE HELL UP..THEY ALWAYS HARASSING SOME *** BODY! I LOVE THIS DUDE AND REALLY I KNOW THERE HAS TO BE MORE TO THE STORY..BUT I DON'T THINK JUST BY WHAT I KNOW THAT HE DID ANYTHING WRONG! OR AT LEAST NOT ENUFF TO GET *** TASERED!!
I HOPE HIS *** SUE THE HELL OUT OF THEM!! IF THIS IS TRUE THAT IZ...
It is really sad when police officers act like THUGS! But we must realize that this is New Orleans and the police officers down there are under a lot of stress. Plus the crime rate is terrible in New Orleans, so the police more than likely did not know what was going on either?
I have been in a situation where there was a *** and the police will make the first people they see get on the ground guns out at you if you dont.
Just tense situations!
@winedine69----Wow. THAT ish DEEP! Not to change the subject, but if that was MY child???? Man....not only would I catch a charge or FOUR, but my son would OWN the Baltimore police department, ok? L~A~W~S~U~I~T ain't even da word. F dat ish. Dat b*tch azz, *** azz cop. Dat ain't even funny, that poor little boy, I know he wanted to KIIIILL dat *** azz cop.
Thanx 4 dat link.
This is sad to hear, but the BIGGER ISSUE IS there was a *** thast had taken place (during All Star Weekend), I went to All Star when it was in DC and ATL a few years back, and it seems that that event in particular draws a certain "element", i'm telling you it won't be long before they either stop having NBA All Star altogether, or start holding them in less popular cities. It's the same thing year after year, someone gets ***, robbed, the cops act all crazy, traffic is ridiculous...NBA All Star is not an event that I care to attend anymore...
HE PROLLY WAS TALKING $HIT THINKING JUST CAUSE HES A CELEBRITY THE WORLD HAS TO BOW DOWN AND KISS HIS PRIVLEDGE A$$, HES STILL AJUST ANOTHER BLACK PERSON TO THEM JUST ANOTHER EVERYDAY AVERAGE ORDINARY PERSON THESE CELEBRITY START THINKING THEY ARE GOD OR SOMEBODY I BET THAT ELECTRIC SHOCK BOUGHT HIS A$$ BACK TO REALITY, ALL HES GONNA DO IS SIT IN THAT BIG A$$ MANSION TAKE A WARM JACUZZI BATH SIP SOME EXPENSIVE A$$ DRINK WITH CANDLE LIGHTS IN THE DARK TEXTING HOES...NO BODY AINT THINKING ABOUT HIS A$$
I'm from ***.O. but I have 2 say that dey r always *** wit ppl.Why do some1/something always has to make ***.O. look stupid. This is y stars don't frequent this place. What da police should start doing is handling *** harrass da rite ppl, like that *** who beat,*** then killed one of there comrades who was a female at that. But to all of the ppl downing ***.O., police corruption happens all ova tha world not just down here. Also, the game taking place down here should be looked as something positive. It was a testament that ***.O. is still standing, recovering and looking forward to vast improvment although it will take some time. Just like the sportscaster said,"this was good for ***.O. b/c it is apart of the re-birth of our city and that we are growing and improving.Yet re-birth still means infancy and that we as a city still need help and support.

And y'all actually think the "other media sources" give a f uck about Tank! Gimme a GD BREAK!! BTW!!!! Take your own *** advice and credit the media sources that you steal pics and stories from ***
WOW, I'M FROM NEW ORLEANS AND THIS ISN'T NEW TO ANY NEW ORLEANIAN. I AM HAPPY THAT I AM A BLACK FEMALE AND NOT A BLACK MALE. WELL ***.O.P.D. DOESN'T CARE ABOUT FEMALES AS WELL. AND DON'T TALK ABOUT FEMALE COPS..THEY ARE A BUNCH OF B****ES!!! AUTOMATICALLY BLACK MALES ARE TARGETED AND SOMETIMES SCAMMED IN NEW ORLEANS JUST SO THAT THE POLICE CAN MEET THEIR "END OF THE MONTH QUOTAS"!!!! MY POOR BROTHER, WHO IS A COLLEGE STUDENT AND GOOD DECENT YOUNG BLACK MALE, WAS STOPPED BY ***.O.P.D. WHEN HE WAS 19, AND THE POLICE JUST PINNED HIM TO THE GROUND WHILE HIS PARTNER TRIED TO PLANT WEED IN HIS CAR...AND MY BROTHER DOESN'T SMOKE OR SELL. AND IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S A BLACK COP OR WHITE COP...HELL THE WHITE COPS ARE NICER IN ORLEANS PARISH THAN THE BLACK COPS.....ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT TANK BETTER BE GLAD HE HAS MONEY AND GOT ARRESTED BY ***.O.P.D.....EVERY NEW ORLEANIAN KNOWS ABOUT JEFFERSON PARISH POLICE...ESPECIALLY KENNER POLICE. DRIVING WHILE BLACK IS THEIR TARGET AUDIENCE...TRUST ME.............AND BETTER YET, LOUISIANA STATE TROOPERS ARE A MESS AS WELL!!! HELL ALL OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT IS JACKED UP IN NEW ORLEANS........!!!!!!!!!!
It's sad how the police always seem to start something. As a former law enforcement officer my self I know firsthand about the unfair practices of our law enforcement agencies. They are the ones who are suppose to protect us. Why are they always hurting our beautiful black men. Granted some of them break the law but everyone isn't a criminal.
Little know fact during the Apartheid in Africa there were 851 arrest per 100,000 black men compared to our United States Probationary system there 4,651 plus black men per 100,000 arrested. It is sad a reminder of the way the government enslaves us to this day. They giving our youngpeople plea deals for 10, 20, and 30 year probationary sentence for minor crimes that sometimes carries a mandatory sentence of less than a year. But due to the inability to obtain proper counsel these young people plea out making our jails over grounded and our youngpeople institutionalized.
Let's stop the cycle education is key. There are no thugs in college. Let's take one youngperson at a time.
Welcome to tha "Terror Dome". I'm a louisiana native and this is what we go through everyday. Tank got lucky. I've been *** with a .45 and bean bags, tazed with a handheld tazer and the one's that ***, pepper sprayed, beat up, and hit with a *** stick. Police don't play down here and they always get away with it. Too many rats to pop one and get away, but were in the process of extermination.
"LOUISIANA STAND UP"!!!!
@universalbliss.....i am a proud New Orleans Black Creole...my mom and dad built our home in 1982...he was a fireman and she was a nurse...he worked *** and sometimes so did she...there were 3 of us my siblings included..we are all college grads and own our own homes...i purchased my home at the age of 22 and i am now 33...in those years it sure was tough...ive survived divorce, unemployment and kids but ive always managed to pay my mortgage...i lost everything i owned in katrina, as did my mom who was still living in the house she and my fathers blood, sweat and tears built...i am overjoyed that i was raised and reared in NO, really i couldnt IMAGINE being from anywhere else...i grew up with the sound of jazz in my backyard, world renowned cuisine for dinner and weather parralleled to the carribbean...people in NO were friendly, fed each other, looked out for each others kids and stuck together..for you to ask how could anyone want to live where their roots are, the place where they were nurtured, HOME-is utterly ridiculous...where do YOU live? BEL AIR? NO is no wasteland, it is a reflection of america-good and bad...i wouldnt care if their was a hurricane every year, i will rebuild each time....this is HOME!
I find it amazing that in this country anytime when white america doesn't know a certain black person no matter how major or minor the situation is he/she can become from a person to a *** in a matter of seconds. anyone can do anything but tank doesn't has a history of viloence and since there was a *** was tank tested for gunpowder residue I think that is what everyone forgotten that there was supposly a ***. Keep in mind people that the police beat up a elder man who was a school teacher and the cops beat the case but we want to go crazy for some fools in gena. Yeah I am for marching in protest of the noose but those highschool kids got more support than a school teacher who poses no threat whatsoever. Black people we need to stick together for the right causes and tank if you read this, don't let this go; use your popularity to push this case in the spotlight and show people that we are still seen as thugs, low-lifes and *** no matter how we look or dress. go to radio shows, leaders black and white and push this, this s*%t has to stop.
It's impossible to put the incident that happened before the Tank's incident to on him at all.
It's against the law for the cops to put their hands on you if you did not threaten them, assault them etc.
Name a time in history when cops have been nice to black men. YOU CAN'T. They know if they beat us down nothing will happen to them if they are not caught on tape.
I'm sure the cops didn't wake up and say let's violate Rodney King, but they did. They don't have to wake up and point you're name out specfically any of us will do!
How can anybody act like the cops are a nice, harmless bunch of guys, from the begining they were the main ones trying to lynch you!
They never would have had to pass laws to stop racist clowns from killing us if the cops were so helpful! You are in deep denial if you believe that cops don't violate your rights. To blame the neighborhood for an innocent person's violation is laughable.
That's like saying that a women *** have been wearing a mini skirt the day she got raped!!
@voodoo lady
don't even entertain people when they talk about our city....you don't even want to know what i go through on the other side of the world in London. I've been asked if I know how to read, do I know lil wayne, and if all I eat is slave food so many times that I don't even answer ignorance. obviously universalbliss has never been to new orleans because you and i both know that every person that visits or lives there realizes that our city is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.....the biggest little city in the country, like how i like to put it!! :D
IT WAS THREE BLACK COPS AND 1 WHITE COP! SO OUR BROTHER OFFICERS ARE STRAIGHT HATERS DIDN'T NO ONE ASK THEM TO BE COPS IF THEY DISLIKE THE PAY THAT MUCH! (I NEW IT WAS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE FOR SOMETHING NOT TO HAPPEN INVOLVING THE CROOKED NOPD. IF I WAS DAVID STERN I WOULD HAVE NEVER ALLOWED THE ALLSTAR IN THAT CITY..THEY SHOULD HAVE GAVE THEM MORE TIME TO BE READY FOR THIS LARGE EVENT.
Uni-ver-sal-bliss,listen 2 urself.y would u want 2 stay where u reside,oh maybe b/c it's ur home, oh ok.u must stay in beverly hills somewhere or better yet off of this f#$@*ing planet.do they not have violence *** police corruption where u live, wait, don't answer that!I have u know that New Orleans is not a wasteland honey;besides have u ever been here and if so how long, did u give it a chance did u c what the city had to offer.Among many things is it's diverse *** unique variety of ppl, food that's known *** praised around da world *** an architectural structure so unique most come 1 time *** fall in love(so what if we're under sea level,we arn't da only ones).black/white/chinese,whateva this city is ppl's home *** we don't and won't give up on our city.we didn't ask 4 katrina but God has da final say *** He has given ppl da chance 2 come back home *** 4 ***.O. to become a better place. In the words of lil wayne,"they tryin 2 make a brand new map w/o us,but da tourists come down *** spend 2 many dollas,*** no matter how u change it it'll still b OURS"!!!
@ Anti-dumb:Where do I start?Well,I'm not here to complain, but instead defend. The neighborhoods are like any other, they vary.Depending on what part of town, there r bad, good and middle class. That"ward" u said the lady was talkin bout is out of text.It isn't "the ward",it's the "7th ward,17th ward,3rd ward(like Texas)*** so on,so on.*** whoeva dis lady was must've been old or lyin, not too many young ppl or ppl from ***.O. in general r afraid to go outside at nite, please! She just wanted somethin to say on TV.As for these pics of the cops u saw, were dey from ***.O. *** if they were then they were on gaurd b/c sum of these negroes down here are not afraid of da police *** there have been incidents where they have gotten killed.I would like 2 believe dat all around da nation ppl or just plain sick of the police and thier corruptivness, but it is rough down here. When u have a city that is economically oppressed u can expect to have ppl doin whateva to survive.Jacking, killing slangin trying to make a way out of no way.But that happens wherever poverty lies.Yes they do have national gaurds down here, dat was b4 all-star.When the city 1st came back up da police needed assistance due to both lack of policeman *** violence, but 4 stars to say that they r only goin 2 private parties is hilarious.I mean u don't just b walking up the street and then BAMMM,some *** just happens to u.If that were the case y did Brad *** Angelini buy a house down here.Also,All-Star went well down here,da sportscasters constantly praised how well things were goin *** different stars that I've heard on the local radio stations(Snoop Dogg,Daz)said that it was awesome *** should b held down here again.*** as for as all da stuff u hear *** c in da media, dey twist and conflict things up about us so bad it's ridiculous.Believe nothing of what u hear *** half of what u c. Sorry so long, had to defend my city *** set sum things straight along w/ answering ur ?'s.
@shlay85
hell yeah...because of BUSH and his spending of over $300 billion on the war that was supposed to be for "weapons of mass destruction".......the dollar isn't worth s***. let's say i bought a dress for 60 pounds (don't have to pound sign on my pc lol) that is $120 for a dress. everything is doubled out here. i don't like london at all, but for other reasons deeper than financial woes. if you want to come out here to visit then it is beautiful but living in america where the dollar is worth something is best!!! just my opinion
for the record my family is from new orleans... my grandfather 100% creole his parents didnt even speak english, only french... my grandmother was black, chinese, and creole. they grew up on pauline... sooo. i have lived in new orleans pre katrina and even then besides the historical "culture" of new orleans i found there really to be nothing progressive going on there. if you travel to other places, you know that there are so many better cities... and that is just my perspective.
@universalbliss well wherever u r now, i hope that ur excelling in that "wonderful new city".*** yes there r many more cities that may b more prosperous and economically stable but don't try to downgrade New Orleans and strip it like its nothing.*** just b/c u moved don't knock da ppl that came back, u spoke as if u neva lived here b4,u shud at least have a little more pride about the place u came from. But *** e way good luck to u in you new environment.
we would like to believe this so we can have an excuse to hate white people in authority. i'm not to thrilled about them either but i do know some of these black entertainers be feelin like they above the law and can say or do what they want w/o repercussions ^^^^^^ I am lily. From the internet so many person have been the friends ,and I am looking for a honest man that will take care of me.i 'm 35 ,white, divorced. All can view my cute photos at interracialLoving. com under "cutepp". Whether black or white, rich or not.under the name of belinda2003.see you then
Why don't we as Black people support each other more? Why do we have such a Crab in the bucket mentality? Why is there so much violence in our communities? Why can't black men step up and take care of there kids? Why so many people don't have no faith?
How can we overcome the challenges of poverty that is in the black community..
Respond back to myspace.com page...
That goes to show... No matter how much money we make..whereever in the world we go. We're just black. A poor white still gets a store clerk running up to offer help faster than a rich black. A black man in a fancy car must have done something illegal to get it. Yet the white drug dealer must be a succesful stockbroker. Obviously him and his clique were percieved as troublemakers from teh get-go. Welcome to the South.
The Year is 2008, we've come a long way from equality being just a concept. We still have a long way to go before equality is more than just a beurocratic formality.
I think the fear wasn't out of intimidation, the fear white men express is out of survival. see black + anything = black, and that simple equation is what fuels racism for black people especially black men. that fear of the dominant black gene exist and we would be fooling ourselves if bought into this PC notion that racism, that fear and hatred for black people is simply out of the fact they don't like our skin color and our noses.
has anyone ever questioned why every group in America has had a spike in their population growth except black people?
see back in colonial days they were indeed afraid of the black man, even more then they do today. they feared us so much they tried to control our growth through the immoral institution of slavery
@Anti-dumb:R u blk or white?U seem 2 b intelligent in ur speakin but sumtimes I don't know about u.NO,I don't think dat blk ppl or any1 else who wants 2 continue 2 reside here b pushed out.Poor or not,the poor has the rite to live where they want to,that sounds very ignorant.I hope u were just posing that as a ?,*** not ur thoughts. The situation isn't helpless, but it is hard. This city, especially da ppl who represent da more poor areas, need help *** support.Da community has stepped up in helping create different organizations dat helps da city out.Everyday, allday on da local radio stations their r non-profit organizations broadcasting what they do for the city, how their helping and asks for volunteers, but like I said this change won't b seen overnite.Da flood was a start in trying to cleanse da city out of alot of da type of unproductive,*** ppl dat is hendering this city from growing. There is a vast amount of working ppl *** ppl who represent this city in positive ways, but there is poverty, *** crime *** poverty go hand *** hand.I agree dat it is a mentality issue, but we as blk ppl all around da world have the same f@#*$ed up mindset. As for D.Banner/Lil Wayne,D.B. is a very positive person *** has given free concerts *** speaks out on both his city *** N.O. all da time.Lil Wayne has done da same. How do they cause a city 2 look bad,b/c their hip-hop artist?B/c of what dey do in their personal lives?B/c of how dey speak, what dey say? That doesn't make sense. If dat's da case, what about da positive,Master P *** da foundation he built, dat's good rite?Where r u from?Get at me *** take a trip down *** i'll show u around so u can begin 2 speak from experiance *** u won't have so many ?'s since ur so concerned.
Voodoolady: What you said was very heartfelt, but I'm sure if you realized that you're entire blog was written in the past tense, all the good things you mentioned used to occur, not anymore.
I'm not going to pass judgement on your city because I've never been, but the picture the media paints is not the brightest. And no I don't believe everything I hear and read but unfortunately the stories don't change. Crime, poverty and Brangelina, that's all people hear about.
@universalbliss
there may be a lot of "better" cities than new orleans, look at me, I'm in London working on my grad degree because I wanted to better myself....but the problem with New Orleanians is that they complain about the city being abysmal, or there isn't any opportunity in New Orleans, etc. That may be true but the main problem with New Orleans never excelling as a great productive city is one main thing......No one puts back into the city. And if you've noticed, everyone that has left New Orleans and become successful, or got successful and left...never put back into their city. And I can't really blame them because SOME of the people there are comfortable with the city in the state that it's in, and who wouldn't get tired of pushing people that don't want to be pushed to do better for themselves. But I love my city very much and I am moving back to New Orleans this May and yes I compared it to London, and I would choose New Orleans over London because despite what anyone says, New Orleans is a beautiful city.
Soon-to-be divorced b-baller Shaquille O'Neal enjoyed the festivities of the NBA All Star weekend in New Orleans, scoring digits from a pretty blond minutes after chatting up a dark-haired girl on his lap at a VitaminWater party. But Tank, the R&B singer, didn't have as much fun. New Orleans police confirm to us that the Tank, aka Durrell Babbs, was tasered and arrested at a roadblock. [SPAM].com reported that the crooner objected to the way they were speaking to him and his date, which he found rude. Cops told us he was freed on $900 bond and must appear in court today.
@ttiiaa my post was not intended 2 solicit sympathy or credit one way or another from anyone...what i am saying is that *** happens everywhere, is that reason 2 write a place/ppl off? im so sorry that u rely on white peoples views and the media 2 form ur opinion about a particular place or region, NO is so much more than brangelina, youd know if u picked up a book...its amazing that more blacks r apt 2 write NO off, while their tax dollars continue 2 rebuild iraq without their consent and they r nowhere near outraged about it...yall believe its a jungle cuz its primarily blacks and thats what THEY want yall 2 believe...i painted a picture in my last post 2 show that it is nowhere near as 1 dimensional as a certain persuasion would want u 2 believe...the vast majority of us are hard-working good natured law abiding citizens who didnt deserve the treatment during katrina as we dont deserve the negative flack NOW...we deserve 2 be treated like any other tax paying citizens and have our communities rebuilt, protected and not referred 2 as a wasteland...how come everbody thinks they ccan come here and do ANYTHING? how would u feel if i came 2 ur city and showed my t1ts, regardless if ur kids could c r not? nopd deals with all of the drunk, loaded, azzholes who come down 2 the quarters and eff it up, including the arrogant, celebrity azzholes...
