IS LIL ZANE STILL GOING AROUND CALLING HIMSELF THAT?
When is the last time he had a hit under that name. Well, when I think about it, he never had a hit. Just alot of hype. Wasnt his last album like 10 years ago? I he's trying to be an actor he should go by his real name.
BTW
I hope they make this. I'll be watching.
ok, m.t.o...this is a good topic right here....just one thing tho, please try gtting your info from reliable sources not just from "faithful readers" for once already!...lol..this seems like it could be a good look but some of the cast members i'm not too sure about: taye diggs as jimmy jam? & marques houton as al b. sure?...why not have the real one instead?..it's not he's been doing much of anything lately?..just saying, no pun intended....oh well the fact a big name like forest whitaker is included is great!
Now I love me some New Edition and will be the first one on the couch to watch the movie, but who in the HELL casted this *** thing!?! Lil Zane as an adult Ronnie Devoe? Joy Bryant as Whitney Houston? The Dream...The Dream as Teddy Riley? And Marques Houston as Al B. Sure??? You have got to be kidding me! And Jason Weaver and Mario's characters need to be switched because Mario's voice is much too strong for Ralph Tresvant, or at least he coiuld be Ricky Bell. This cast is utterly ridiculous! Go back to the drawing board fellas!
focus Flag post Can I please ask why? New Edition is not a Temptations or Earth, Wind & Fire. They were some bubble gum group back in the day who does nostalgic concert tours now. Same thing with New Kids on the Block. I liked their music but wouldn't want to see a movie about them. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GASPS!!! *** YOUR MOUTH!!!! LOL
How could you say that?!?!? You must be a youngin' and don't know anything about their history.
New Edition IS the last of the class-act, male R&B groups, and their personal lives weren't even as tragic.
They were robbed silly, but NOT ONE of their CONSECUTIVELY successful albums didn't make hits. These brothers are all around 40, and they still have to moves, and ONLY A GROUP LIKE NEW EDITION can take a song like "Popcorn Love" that they did at 12, at make it sound hot like they do when they tour today.
The Jacksons were still doing the very same thing when they toured also. They are just as significant to R&B as The Temptations and Earth, Wind and Fire!!!!
Thanks for mentioning my other two favorite male-groups of all time. :)
Love The Spinners and The O'Jays also.
Looking forward to the New Edition t.v. movie. However, for those who remember, several years ago New Edition hooked up with Diddy (at the time "Puff Daddy"), and in addition to a new album, Diddy agreed to help them create a big screen movie on the life story of New Edition. As they were going on tour (throughout U.S.) concerning the new album, it was very disorganized. When New Edition called Diddy, they could never speak with him, and instead spoke with his assistants. Obviously, New Edition severed the relationship with Diddy as soon as possible. This is what New Edition stated during their interview by Wendy Williams on her radio program. The interview occured in either 2005 or 2006. Hopefully she will re-play it.
New Edition has hot music and hot videos. I would have loved to see their life story on the big screen.
Thank you Lis, you are on point! NE (for all the youngins who don't know) was acknowledged as one of the most successful groups in music history. Every single member of the group, including Bobby and Johnny, have released multi-platinum albums outside of NE and with NE. How often does that happen? (Not even Destiny's Child could pull that off.) After 25 years they are still here and despite having had horrible deals and management over the decades have managed to sell out almost every show they have now. Longevity is the key - and they've got it. I hope the movie is made and released, but more than that I hope that this movie does these young men's lives justice.
And all those groups out now, pay attention - you'll learn something. Do you really think we'll see The Ying Yang Twins, 25 years from now doing any tours or movies? Oh -- PrettyBoi, Chiwetel Ejifor is a great actor from England who has been in many movies including American Gangster, Talk To Me (with my fave actor Don Cheadle), Children of Men, and many more... don't sleep - check him out.
Can't wait, Can't wait, Can't wait!!!
@Ju...Boy, you took me baaaack! Got me singin' Candy girl and sh^t!
New Edition was MAJOR throughout their career... shame they didn't have the continuity to stay together consistently. Our loss.
@DecemberBaby...EXACTLY! Lil'Zane is just that... LITTLE Zane and Ronnie Devoe is OVER 6FT.TALL.. are you telling me they couldn't find a qualified TALL actor..sheesh!
@Lis: No I'm not a youngn :-) and I like NE but I just don't believe they rate a movie or fall into the same category as the O'Jays, Tempts, EWF. Out of NE, Johnny Gill was the most talented singer but his career went no where after that fantastic CD he put out in the early 90s. Bobby Brown put out a successful cd and could dance his *** of but he was vocally enhanced big time. He sounds horrible live. I remember people wanting their money back from his concerts.
Not too many of the younger groups that came out over the last 15-20 years can even compete with the older groups. That was some true talent and could sing without music, synthesizers and anything else to enhance one's voice.
Boyz 2 Men is great but they fell off the map. You can sell millions but longevity in the business is what I compare them too. I don't think we'll ever have any male musical groups like the Tempts, O'Jays, Spinners, EWF, etc. ever again. That's why producers put these male groups together, they have some hits or a hit and we never hear from them again. New Kids on the Block sold millions too but they and the other groups are history, not legends.
I truly believe that had Gerald LeVert lived, he would've been a legend. The boy had talent--could sing, write, produce, you name it. Other underrated artists are Maurice White from EW&F; he wrote the majority of their music. Man, oh man were they successful and still are. Smokey Robinson, and so many others.
good look i think it will be a good look for them. the jacksons did it and i'm sure there was alot of things that we would like to know about them like... how the hell did they go broke with 5 his songs back to back.. and why puffy tried to make them something they are not? and why johnny gill keeps hanging out with Eddie.... I hope they do the later years too. its a shame
NE is without a doubt worthy of a movie. They are in the same class with The O'Jays, The Tempts, The Spinners etc and no one in any of those groups you mentioned had solo sucess outside of their groups save for Phillip Bailey from Earth,Wind & Fire so why don't you read up on your R&B history have a coke and a smile and *** the *** up.

Anybody that can see Taye as big, tall Jimmy Jam, Marq as Al B, OR Michelle Williams as Stacy Lattisaw has cataracts. I aint even gonna get on Dream and Zane. And who says NE doesn't deserve a movie?! They have enough drama to turn this into a soap opera. Tune in next time to see which manager squandered the money.... Bobby by himself could have his own bio film! And yes I agree- I hope Hype don't effit up. I Can't Wait! Let the drama ensue folks!!!!
I am like 4 years late on this topic but I don't agree with all the casting. how can lil zane play ronnie devoe? isn't he too ***? but anyway i wish they had made a movie about them. i definately would've payed the $8.50 to see it in theaters. are they still in the process of making it? some1 please let me know.
