MediaTakeOut.com just caught wind that 1990s group members Pete Rock and CL Smooth are feuding. In an interview with Yo Raps magazine (www.yoraps.com.) Pete Rock said the following about his former partner:
I’m not anyone’s father and trying to tell them how to live or how to be. But at the same time I’m in this for straight positivity, you know. Feeding my family and do good things in hip hop, teach young kids how to make beats. And he’s into the totally opposite of that. He’s totally negative, you know. Negative thoughts, negative sh*t, negative things that he does.
You know, to have a partner like that is very hard, to be with someone that doesn’t have genuine love for you. I’m just gonna put it out there like that, we’re just two different people that do not get along.
I don’t tolerate any disrespect from no man or woman. You know, it is what it is! It’s like oil and water you know what I mean. When you’re in a group with someone you have to always think about the other person.
But when the other person doesn’t think anything about you and you are making the beats and doing all the work… There is a time in your life when everyone has to grow up, that’s it! DANG!!!
They've been beefing for years. They were my favorite rap group in the 90's. I still listen to them. DAM.*** SHAME!!!! But he is right...you do have to grow up especially if your pushing 40. Neither one fo them are hurting though. CL's CD American Me that came out the end of 06' was fire and so is Pete Rock's new one. It would be nice for them to get back together, but they don't need each other.
Wrong CL is hurting. He lives in New Rochelle, NY with a friend of mines sister, who has recently moved to Geogia, so i guess he lives in GA now. If you see him driving a escalade its hers. Pete was right, he needs to grow up and figure out that he is not a ***. CL does have talent, but his attitide sucks. I hope he gets it together, cause I loved them together. He has said thsi to him before, that is why their reunion tour never happened. CL did not want to do the small southern states.
@ Rawbreed, dont forget about EPMD...They were one of the most consistent groups ever, and at the end they had cats pulling guns on each other...
This is really unfortunate...They were my group back in the day, and both of them still have more talent in their pinkie finger than a lot of these so called ballers out now have in their entire bodies....
Hopefully they can bury the hatchet, CL can get it together, and they can go back to making classic cuts together.
For anyone that has the audacity to say that Pete Rock is irrelevant you need to take a good hard look at your life and ask yourself who you are and what you've accomplished to make your opinion of a LEGEND in hip hop worth sharing.

You know it's really a shame it's come this with these guys. They were one of my favorite rap groups along with A Tribe Called Quest back when rap music was great to listen to. Back when every other word wasn't *** or hoe or some other vulgar curse word. It's sad that today's rap artists don't have any artistic measure in their way of thinking. Many of them don't think they can sell a record without vulgar, disrespectful, unintelligent, uneducated language all the while engaging in blatant glorifications of drug dealing, weed smoking, guns, violence, etc. So come on Pete Rock & CL Smooth and Tribe, guys get back together and bring back real rap music because the state of rap music today is nothing to be proud of.
