I was referring to the title of the blog and the comments in here where people said that northerners are more "classy", "intelligent", etc. I didn't wanna call out any names, but I was generalizing my comment to those who feel that way. And I'm also speaking from my experience from talking to people from "up north"...especially from New York. For some reason, a lot of them flock to the south, but when they get here, they try to clown. When I talk to them, they just have this single image of what people from the south are: "we all eat chitterlings, pig feet, have thick country accent, we're slow, we all blow money to be flashy, etc." I know not all people from up north feel that way, but from my experience, all the ones I've come into contact with feel that way.
My comment is also from reading other blogs such as the *** C funeral one. Some of the people in the pics had on jeans, sneakers, etc. And people would be like "that's how them country folk do, no respect. we wouldn't dare wear that up here." And from there, all the stereotypes about people from the south came out.

However, I do travel around the U.S because of my job and my company is based in Texas and there have been times where I have felt that they were judgemental of me because of my "accent" (I didn't know I had one either) and that has happened plently of times but I do give Southeners the benefit of a doubt and do not judge them as a whole because everyone is different. Yea, that's been my experience so far. And trust, I KNOW you all aren't like that!! LOL But I can't even tell you how many times I've been asked "Do you eat chitlins'/pig feet??", or been told "You don't sound "thaaat" country", or "Ya'll so slow down here" etc. from people up north who either moved down here or just visiting. It just get frustrating sometimes trying to tell them over and over that we're not all like that. Then they proceed and boast about how much better it is in the north and they can't wait to go back and blah blah blah! LOL
I get that from my own family too, who all decided to migrate in great numbers to Maryland and the DC area. My aunts, especially, are good for forgetting that they were raised down here in NC before moving away!! LOL They refer to my mom and the rest of us as so country b/c she stayed here...and I be like...HOLD UP!!! LOL All while 1 of my aunts who moved to MD still eats pig feet and I, who's still in NC, don't!! LOL Even their kids (my cousins) be trying to clown.

I really feel what you're saying!! In college, I had a friend from Ohio that constantly talked about "Ya'll southern folks this, Ya'll country folks that". When I brought up the same point that you did about most black people up north having roots in the south...he would brush it off. It's amazing how they wanna act all "high and mighty" and forget where they came from. They're just decendents of runaway slaves.
Its become a North/South thing because these 'ignant' negros on here dont know their history! If you are a Black American (No matter your location), this is a 99.8% chance that your black a$$ is here due to the African Slave Trade. Tap into your history people. In essence, this isn't our home anyways so why are people still bickering over something so trivial. You were born where you were born because someone before you made the decision to move or not move. If some families chose to stay in the South, then so be it. I love my rich Southern heritage. If your people chose to move North, Midwest, West, Southwest, or to Canada then that's what it is. Be proud of who you are but don't bash something you don't know about.

It's a hard decision to do on both sides for our ancestors. It took an extreme amount of courage from our ancestors to stay and remain a slave just as much as to up and run away to the north, risking their lives. They were both hard decisions that our ancestors had to make. There's nothing cowardly about either one.
As for Katrina, that was a low blow. You don't know what those people went through. As a city with a history of many hurricanes, I'm sure they thought Katrina would be no different and they could stay and ride it out like all the others. Many of those that did stay behind were in poverty. That had no means to leave. It's not their fault that they trusted their government to do right by them. Like someone stated above, everyone looks to their government in times of crisis. Because afterall, that is their job. It has nothing to do with blacks following what "massah" told them to do.

The market for ignorant black people on television generates a lot of money. It confirms the negative conceptions and stereotypes our society has about black people; from our inability to form proper sentences, to our lack of education and material fulfillment. first of all being from down south what is with the sarcastic use of the word "country" ignorance? first of all yes they are both from down south but it does not mean they are ignorant. when 50 cent runs around thinking hes all that or diddy or fat joe all up on the tv do you hear us saying look at that up north ignorance? if they wanna have a reality show let them... hell, everybody else does. let people make their money how they want and MTO concentrate on what you do best...lie and make fun of people who have more money than you do. stop hating the south...we're here and we aint going nowhere!
