In the year 2008, that we as a people have accomplished so much from having such a horrific past, that there are still those who are willing to say that I don't care what you do you will NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH! Our ancestors were ripped from our villages. Families were separated. Many were drown at sea. We were brought here, because to the white man we were uneducated and able to be controlled like an animal. We had no rights. We were treated like livestock and sold as such. We were considered property, but good enough for master to rape whenever he felt like getting some. A good portion of the wealth that you see today was solely due to the free labor of slaves.
No, slavery is not something that we can just get over. It is part of us, the same way that other's history is part of them. African Americans may have more rights than ever, but we still face more obstacles. Yes, times may have changed, but some opinions of the older generations have not. This cover is just a reminder. I did not think much about it, because I grew up in the South. I never wanted to be accused of being overly sensitive to racism. When you grown up seeing the blatant acts of a race of people who despise you simple because of your skin color, I have a tendency to let some things slide. I'm not going to boycott McDonald's if I only see salt shakers on the table. I do not expect other races to know everything that we may consider offensive, but they should however know that racism will always be an issue for us. We experienced it and continue to. I'm sure that not all races are against us and expect us to eat fried chicken, watermelon, and grits. I'm sure that they don't expect us to do a little dance or shine shoes. However, they should be responsible enough to know that when putting the 1st African American on the cover of a world reknown magazine, he should be dressed as elegantly as Giselle, regardless of his occupation, and not a "savage animal." The world can see any sports magazine or website with Lebron showing "a little emotion" and focusing his power.

It just baffles my mind when I see that some Black folk have such a limited scope!
This is not about money! This is not about "lets be mad at Lebron". This is about the black community and depicting stereo types about us as a WHOLE! And therein lies the problem with people with your mindset. You value materialism over maturity; momentary consumption over longterm values; entertainment over education; and selfishness over self-sacrifice. Black people need to start thinking about how their behavior is holding the entire race down and start embracing values that build the entire community up. We need to draw lines in the sand that govern our behavior. Others will not respect us if we do not first respect ourselves.
If you want to throw the race card on Vogue, you need to start with its black Editor at Large- Andre Leon Talley. The reason that *** like this effects our community is because we let these people on these magazines and in entertainment be the role models for our communities instead of we ourselves. Some, more than once and were portrayed as the gorgeous women they are. So based on that, I wouldn't say this photo was a race thing, but who knows maybe it is a gender thing?!?! lol. Or perhaps nothing at all!?!? (only 3 males were ever on the cover, but then again that is why they have Men's Vogue)
