i like kelis a lot but i do think she's been falling off A LOT recently. got dania looking better than her and who knew who Dania was until she started going everywhere with kelis. but anyways... not really feeling the bowl cut. and i agree with everyone else, summer is coming Kelis... time to drop some hot sh*t. Whoever that guy is she wrote her first song about really F**ked her up. She is all weird now. She tries to be different and she tries to stand out but because she is trying soooo hard to stand out it's back firing. Nas, I know you scared of her, but the b**ch don't need to be out in public scaring us with her look. She is busted and disgusted.
Obviously most of you know absolutely nothing about Kelis if you think she tries hard to stand out... She is one of the most natural celebrities there is...she's always been into eccentric mixing and matching...and she's influenced some of the celebrities you guys find so stylish. Just because it's a stretch for YOU to wrap your brain around her style, does not mean she's trying too hard... It simply means, you're another individual, you don't share her sensibility... But, I'd challenge you to go back to her very first video and tell me she's ever tried too hard...this has been her look since she worked in a boutique as a teen and was scolded for wearing crazy ****.
mariaandpapi, you see Kelis's influence in Rihanna's "rocker chic" thing, especially with her love of mixing higher and lower end jewelry. And, speaking of jewelry, tacky Trina and her thing for Victorian jewels...something straight from the Kelis files. The girl often wore entire sets (necklace, earrings, bracelet) with emerald cut stones and diamonds dripping everywhere like she was headed for the Oscars...but she just rocked it casually or for a *** out...the way Trina does (though Trina is VERY tacky...) Okay...another star who takes her cues from Kelis is Beyonce...aside from "Ring the Alarm" which was just a blatant Kelis-smear, Beyonce started rocking tons of jewelry...anklets, belly chains, bracelets, huge rings and making overt use of one designer's items. The last part is hard for me to explain because you'll inevitably think: "maybe she wore a certain designer because she liked him" BUT stars aspire to heights in the fashion world just as they aspire to certain heights on the music scene. And, when she became basically a Giuseppe Zanotti billboard (just as Rihanna became a Zac Posen billboard) she knew it would garner the same sort of attention Matthew Williamson's designs did for Kelis. (He declared Kelis his muse, though). And, Keyshia Cole, who's first image (the one before she became the official newage Mary) was a mirror image of Kelis: curly hair, lots of electric colors, rocker tees. Check her "I just want it to be over" video. Ummmm, I could probably go on if I thought about it... Oh, wait! Fantasia with her radical hair and ever-burgeoning tattooage.
