What is this world coming to? Who is going to be held accountable for their actions? the parents, students, school administrators, somebody. That was just so uncalled for. And worse off, the school was not going to support her as they were to overheard her say that she would defend herself in a situation like that, I mean heck, who wouldn't defend themselves. ***! Being a teacher now-a-days is like going into a war zone. I would've been fired because I don't think I could've restrained myself from whooping her ***. Matter of fact, if my mom had to be called, she would come up to the school and embarrass the hell out of me. The schools' administration was acting like it was the teachers' fault. One of the representatives said it was a "volatile" situation to begin with and that the teacher should have just walked away...my mouth dropped down to the floor! WTH!! If the teachers aren't allowed to do their jobs, then why are they there? If that's the case, let's just post up videos set on timers to teach the kids, w/sensors on their desk to determine if they're actually seated or not, and when the bell rings, the kid just knows its time to go to their next class... A teacher *** have to walk on egg shells to avoid a confrontation w/an enraged child... Let's start by doing some psychological testing on these kids on a semi-yearly basis and try and figure out why so many of our young people are angry...so angry, that just a word from any authority figure will send them over the top. That's not normal...there's something terribly wrong here.
First of all, the girl's mother should be HIGHLY embarassed and should be whoopin that girl's azz. My child woulda made a PUBLIC apology in tears and then I woulda beat her azz again after that.
Second---if I was that teacher??? I woulda whooped that girl's azz like she was an adult. They would've had a whole different story to tell on the news, plus I woulda been facing charges. I woulda saw all red and went SHELL on her. That's why yea...no school system for me, not high school anyway.
Prayer outta school...downhill every since. Plus teachers don't make nearly enough and with the economy, everybody is looking for just a check, not a passion. When I was coming up our teachers were older church members, community leaders, and ones that also taught my parents, etc. they loved what they did and did it from the heart. See this is a "catch-22" situation. On one hand if she retaliates and starts beating the student she can get sued for that, but if she didn't defend herself the other teachers say that she aggrivated the student to jump on her. This is why a lot of teachers need to get paid like basketball players do when it comes to watching some ignorant parent's kids who don't have any home training and just like a poster stated above..."they don't know how to channel their anger" this is what the world is coming to. When I was young, we actually went OUTSIDE to play in the sun OR rain and we ENJOYED it...we made up games and would stay outside ALL DAY...we had after school programs and summer program activities at local park and recreation centers, swimming pools and all kinds of stuff! And YES in the HOOD TOO!!!!! Now a days these kids watch music videos and play video games all day...that is what they look up to now....Sad.

Thats a dayum shame that a child would do this. I bet the parents of that young girl have taught her no better. Kids these days don't know what respect is and don't want to learn either. I would never consider striking an adult because my parents taught me better. That woman is afraid to go back to that classroom. Even though she was told that the student would be expelled, she has not been. The students know that they can do what they want, because little or no disciplinary action will be taken.
The teacher warned the student that she would defend herself if she did strike her. This probably infuriated the girl. The teacher had already said that she wanted to be cool with her friends, so she was not about to be embarrassed in front of them.
The principal said that it was the teacher's fault for basically telling the girl that she will get dealt with if touched. Maybe, she should could have chosen less confrontational words; but it was her way of warning her and that still did not justify her being beaten.
The principal also said that she should have gotten an administrator, but she said that it happened rather quickly. Before she knew it, it had gone from talking to the girl being in her face.
In this instance, I blame the lack of proper parenting, a defiant teenager attitude, lack of respect for authority, peer pressure, and a desperate need for attention. By the way, why hasn't she been arrested?

I live in Baltimore and Im not going to say that Baltimore schools arent rough. But this is not just a Baltimore school system issue. It is a national epidemic and problem. Somebody on here had the audacity to say that Baltimore kids act this way because they're crack babies, now thats a crackheaded thing to say. No kids behavioral problem is strictly due to being a "crack baby" and not all "crackbabies" act this way. And Baltimore isnt the only city who has youth who'se mother used the drug while pregnant with them It sickens me that people are sitting here admiting that school systems are getting out of hand but they want to say that this is only in Baltimore. Let's be for real this *** is every where. Every state and city has schools that are good and some that are bad. It is a fact that while Baltimore city has a couple of bad schools they also have 4 of the highest performing pulic schools in the nation It sickens me that people can act all holier than thou and try to talk on something that they know nothing about. The Baltimore School System has been F*cked up for a long time. None of this is really new. When I was in school I have seen things way worse in our schools. The problem is that the teachers be scared of the students not saying that they dont have a right to be but if you are working in a school like Northern HS or whateva they calling it now you should be very aware of they type of children you are teaching.

@peewee: There is no other side to this story. If the girl didn't like something in the classroom, she should've told her mother and then gone to the principal. This is why inner cities are so violent and crime ridden now. These children resolve issues with violence. That's the only way they know because at home they're being beaten and cursed out on a daily basis.
As for the spineless administrator of this school, the girl was still in the building when the teacher was taken to the hospital. She was suppose to be expelled. These adminstrators have no ***. They're too afraid of losing federal funding so they'd rather put an educators life in jeopardy.
I visited one school and the main office had air conditioning while the rest of the school was unbearably hot. WTH kind of learning environment is that?

I have been teaching for 8 years in an urban district. Let me tell you, I don't know a SINGLE TEACHER who has not had a child at least attempt to hit, kick, or assault them in some way. This year alone, I've had a male student kick me TWICE. He was suspended, but allowed back to school a few days later. He is in a program for children with psychological problems,so this is something he has done with every teacher he has had.
I've been encouraged to press charges against this child, and I've struggled with this a lot. (Mainly because I actually like him, and I know he's dealing with a lot of issues.) I cannot bring myself to do this to him. African american boys are really going through it, emotionally, as a result of the demise of the black family. Most of the kids in my class don't have a father in their life... and it's hard for them to deal with this. They have so much pent up anger.. and a lot of times teachers are on the receiving end of this. Outside of their parents, teachers spend more time with them than ANYONE else. My class is in my care for 30 hours a week. I'm practically raising them.
All of the teachers I know became teachers because they genuinely love kids. True, there are some bad teachers, but I know they're the minority. THat being said, it infuriates me to hear ANYONE say that this teacher provoked this. I think she did the right thing telling the girl she would defend herself. You can tell the child was a little OFF, because that should have brought her back to reality and made her back off.
THis is not just Baltimore, this is EVERYWHERE. We had an incident yesterday at my school. The teacher hit back after the child grabbed his neck, and he was let go. Either wasy,it's a no-win for the teacher. Don't defend yourself... and you get CLOWNED. Defend yourself, and you get FIRED.

Some people are saying that this happened because the children are "crack babies", well both of my neices are "crack babies" and they are 16 and 17 years old now (removed from the home at 18 and 9 months ..yeah they have some issues but they have never done this because they know that the family would not accept this kind of behavior..it's just not about crack, it starts in the HOME

This mess starts from very young... you can't start raising a child in junior high... you have to start from day one.
I have a friend that has a child that has been getting in trouble since kindergarten. Her typical response is, "it's the teacher"... I'm like okay the child is in 4th grade now and you still blamin the teacher on her behavior???!!! Some of these parents need to get a grip!!!
She was typical didn't attend PTA, never met with the teachers, just very lax.... until the end of the school year or when trouble hit.
My grandmother knew my teachers well and they knew her by name... If she had to come to that school in her rollers... Lawdhamercy
Alot of you all are saying "I wouldv'e did this" or "that", but let's face iot, I used to work within the school system, and you are soooo limited as a PROFESSIONAL in terms of how you handle these kids. You have to remember tat YOU ae te PROFESSIONALand ifa kid dores strike you, although your first instinct might be to whip their a**, you got to come down off that kick your a** high, and summo help, if you don't, you lose your cool, f**k a kid up, lose your job and license, so it's really not worth it.

Parents don't want to be parents, you can't let BET and Playstation raise your kids. These girls out here all think babies are so cute until they start walking and talking and then it's "go play in your room, I'm having 'adult time' in the living room." If you don't want the responsibility, don't have children. I weep for the future, but at least we know they're definitely won't be a *** of burger-flippers if this kind of behavior continues.

This is what I am always talking about. The teachers having to always defend themselves. What happened to discipline the schools. We couldn't and would have never stood up to a teacher, or adult. These kids can do whatever they want to do in these classrooms. We need OBAMA in office, he knows what is going on, and is on the teacher's side. There use to be a day, where you would get spanked in school if you misbehaved, I remember because it happened to me. But guess what, it made me who I am tody, a great teacher. WHERE IS THE DISCIPLINE TODAY. I usually don't post three times butthis burns me up, give that child jail time, if she thinks she is grown and above the law, let her serve time and sit and think of her actions. If the kids who beat that chid up from Florida are going to get jail time, so should she, in fact, her actions are worse. Our legal system is so screwed up. These kids today are OUT OF CONTROL! They have no respect for NO ONE! I've seen kids curse adults out because they blew their horn for them to move out the street so they could pass! I would have never thought about cursing at or in front of another adult! My momma would've beat the black offa me! I am so thankful that I was blessed to with two good kids........but then again, kids are a product of their parents! My kids don't try me! My oldest is 6'2 and I am 5'2 but I will punk him down! I have cousin who teaches first grade, one who's a school psychologist, a lot of friends who teach and I'm do middle school. It's the parents. A lot of them believe their child can do no wrong. That's why this is my last year.
I don't get it. Why is that teacher not fighting back. She would not have got in trouble, the police would have known she was defending herself. And if the school officials and school board wanted to be stupid and fire or suspend her for defending herself the they would have a big lawsuit on their hands for wrongful termination! She did the right thing by not hitting her back because her career as a teacher would have been over. She also would have went to jail if she had hit her back. The child should be removed from the school ASAP and sent to an alternative school and her mother should he held accountable for any medical damages suffered by the teacher. Not to mention criminal charges should follow Also in the big picture sad to say but that child is not going to have much of a future when she gets older. No one is going to hire a girl who has a history of violence against authority. No college or job would ever put up with her behavior.

You would do well, if you had not painted everyone who you believe lives in the "Ghetto", or grew up in single family homes with a broad brush. The would be stereotyping. You dont know what peoples situations are. And for that matter, there are children who grew up in intact families who have present-but-absent fathers, go home to violence everyday, are abused, or have many other problems that will create anger in children. While I take nothing away from the nuclear family structure, I think it is easy to just blame it on having a single mom as the only person raising a child.
There are many single moms who are exellent parents and had to be and not just because they were young moms either. Sometimes its due to divorce or because they had to excape an abusive husband. And even the ones who made a huge mistake in not being careful and had children out of wedlock, do you mean to tell me that all of there children will be incarcerated, drop out or have more kids out of wedlock. I dont think so. I think the media quots statistics and shows these types of things (which must be handled) and we overlook that each of those statistical numbers equal a person with unique groups of ***. And you never hear the stats that say that these children or single moms go on to get training grow the heck up, and get out of poverty.
My mother divorces my father when I was three. Dispite the fact that she had four children that she had to take care of on her own by the time I was 7 years old she had obtained a four year degree in journalism. You know what? We lived in the projects for a long time after that because she wanted to raise us and she did a good job because, with the exeption of my sister who is deciesed all three of her other children went to college, none of use (including my sister) were teen parents of out of wedlock children, or has ever seen the inside of a jail. This is why stereo typing, to me, is just intellectual lazyness. Unless you are going to look at sociological reasons for the crime and put it in historic and cultural context then *** up.
A few of these people have less than rational ideas on this page. That does not mean that they are a representative sample of people who live in less then desirable neighborhoods.

In my personal experience the ghetto is a geographical location and has nothing to do with where you are mentally. So, befor you continue to make these offensive comments think about people on a case by case bases instead of labeling. The black community is divers and doesnt care to be lumped together by whites, the same is true of those you call ghetto.
