Tavis Smiley LEAVES The Tom Joyner Radio Show ... Reportedly A Result Of OBAMA FEUD

: MediaTakeOut.com has learned that this morning Tom Joyner announced that Tavis Smiley would no longer be a correspondent on his nationally syndicated morning show. While no specific reason was given for Tavis' resignation, speculation is that Tavis was feeling the heat from all the callers critical of his public feud with presidential candidate Barack Obama.

IF HE'S NOT FOR "CHANGE", THEN CHANGE UR JOB...BEEOTCH

2ND (I THINK)

mzleggs

I hate to see him leave the show

MissMaiTai

Tavis is a Uncle Tom Negro and just doesn't know it. Im glad he was fired. Somebody needs to stand up to his "Crab in a barrell" mentality. Kudos to Tom Joyner!

MissMaiTai

Top 10 again! Damn I'm good!

kissablepat

To thine ownself ALWAYS be true! You go Tom!

girlswitcandypaint

FINALLY TOP TEN

MISSISSIPPI'S FINEST

voodoolady

Please dont let the media(namely MTO) turn this into brother against brother...Tavis is still a righteous dude...it is ok for people to respectively disagree...and the public has distorted this story so much...please google Tavis' response to the bullsh*t...he actually admires Obama...MTO this is VERY irresponsible on YOUR part...

crwodpleeser

Oh well! Life still goes on! Don't hate because he hated, no body distorted anything, Tavis was sensitive about the whole Obama for President thing. He has never gotten over it!

Diamondcrystal

He still will do well where ever his next job will be, he is a very educated brother.

ebony0129

Thank God. I always turn my radio whenever he's on anyway. I haven't listen to him for the last couple of months. I don't see why so many people are so hurt.

Ebonyblanco

@voodoolady, I'm Very Familiar With the Tavis Smiley/Barack Obama "Situation," and it is Definitely a Classic Situation of "Hate!" MTO is NOT at Fault For This One! Everyone IS Entitled to Their Opinion, But Why Would Someone With the Influence That Tavis Has Garnered Over the Past 10 Years, Go Out of His Way to "Discredit" the ONE Black Man That Could Very Well Be Our Next President?!! He Has Fallen In with the Likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, Who All Pride Themselves on Being the "VOICE" of Black American, and Barack Threatens What They Obviously Deem "THEIR" Role! Tavis, You Need to Learn to Pick Your Battles More Carefully!!! I Hear Hillary Clinton Needs Some Campaign Help!!!!!!!

misskarmel

Tavis is no Uncle Tom, he is far from it. If you read his bio you would understand where is coming from. A man that develops a book designed to help black folk is no UT. It is sad to see him leave the Tom Joyner show. He was a good commentator. However I disagree with his stance on Obama and his wife.

ladytee35

Tavis is a very smart person he just had issues with some things that Obama was not addressing. There is nothing wrong with having an opinion but he was going against the grain for some strange reason and it was getting out of hand.

whatwhatwhat

Tavis is taking kick-back money from Hillary. All of a sudden he's getting write ups in the papers by reporters who support Hillary saying that he's "the next big thing" in the news media. SMHIS

His continuous bashing of Obama while foo-fooing Hillary Clinton is shameless. I swear this man is attached to Hillary's teets.

I don't even care if he supports Hillary. Just say so. But don't get on the radio and pretend you are not committed to anyone and then try this psycho-babble brainwash sh!t on people. We ain't buying it.

And now his weak ass quits the show because he can't take the pressure. The same type of pressure he wanted US to put on Obama has been turned on him and his [EXPLETIVE] ass can't take it. Sayonara muthafuka!

mabeline

I am a regular listener to TJMS and I would hope based on the relationshiop developed over the years that Tavis wouldnt be fired for his difference of opinion re Obama. I still have mad love for Tavis even though I am an Obama supporter myself. People have forgotten about all the pertinent issues Tavis fought for and continue to fight before Obama. A Uncle Tom negro he definately is NOT!

badbones4

TJMS need to play more music and less talk

SupaDave101

BOTTOM LINE. TAVIS IS RIGHT TO CALL OUT OBAMA. HE IS JUST SHOWING THE WORLD ON A MEDIA STAGE THAT OBAMA IS THE ANTICHRIST. I'M A PROPHET FOR REAL AND I'M SITTING BACK JUST WATCHING THE SHOW. WHAT'S GOING ON HAS ALREADY BEEN DETERMINED, AND WE JUST GOT TO FULFILL THE BOOK. PEOPLE WAKE UP FOR REAL. WAKE UP. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, BECAUSE WHEN WE (TODAYS PROPHETS) TRY TO TELL THE PEOPLE SOMETHING REEEAAAAL, YOU JUDGE IT BASED OFF OF THE DOOOLLLLAAARRRR. THAT RIGHT THERE IS THE MAMMON THAT HAS US IN A SLEEPER. EVERYBODYS FOCUS IS GET MONEY GET MONEY, BUT THE FUNNY THING IS IT'S JUST PAPER THAT IS BACKED BY NOTHIN (SUPPOSEDLY GOLD SILVER) LEARN WHAT GOLD AND SILVER IS REALLY FOR THEN YOU MIGHT BE GETTING CLOSE. WAKE UP. WAKE UP. OR YOU WILL BE LEFT.

SupaDave101

Check out Obamas youth pictures (google it). Then check out photos of Bill Clintons alleged illegitimate black son named (codename) Danny Williams. Google it as well. Once you compare the pictures and the dates GOD WILL TELL YA Sumthin. How were Barack baby pics circulating during BILL CLINTONS FIRST TERM PRESIDENCY. IILLUMINATIIIIIIIII ONE WORD TO SUM IT UP. MY ADVICE IS THINK TWICE (gnarls barkley(crazy).

DaDopeboysDJ

It's OK, Billary cut the CHECK!!!

MTO...let me fix that damn server cause ya'll "captchas" are not coded right.

w2m

Its sad to see a brother like Tavis leave a show like Tom Joyner's. Simply put when we get together as a people we can make all sorts of things/dreams happen.

I'm listening to a replay of TJ's show and Tom is saying that Tavis left because Tavis can't take critisim from us(black folk). Thats one of the reasons. Folk saying that Tavis is jealous of Senator Obama.

In my opnion Tavis needs to not let that get to him. One thing we got on lock as a people is "Judging others". He needs to overlook it and keep it moving.

88judomamas

Slowly but Surely, the walls of dissent crumble!

urtweetness

SO HE WAS WAKE ANYWAY

ISIS

TAVIS HAS ALLOWED HIS JEALOUSLY GET TO HIM, aS FAR AS SHARPTON & JACKSON BEING THE SO-CALL VOICE OF BLACK AMERICA THATS THE PROBLEM THEY DIDN'T INTRODUCE OBAMA TO BLACK AMERICA . THEY NEED TO KNOW THEY ARE NOT THE VOICE OF BLACK AMERICA THERE ARE SO MANY OTHERS OUT THERE SPEAKING ON OUR BEHALF AND NOT FOR THE MONEY . WE NEED TO RECOGNIZE THOSE TWO WILL NEVER SPK FOR ME. I LIKE TAVIS AND OBAMA . I JUST THINK THE WILLIE LYNCH SYNDROME IF TRUE OR NOT IS TRULY WHAT WE HAVE HERE , BROTHERS HATING ON EACH OTHERS ,PLEASE

OmegaMan

Damn, that's too bad. Tavis just lost his "voice" on the #1 syndicated black morning show. Sometimes you must accept the fact that everyone will not agree on your point of view. So, you after you discuss your differences ad agree to disagree, let it be!

Good luck, Tavis. F.I.E.T.T.S.

HUEmanbro

So, if you don't worship barack obama as god like many of ya'll black fools do then you're a uncle tom?

HUEmanbro

Superpoint, good point and anti christ really means agains't conscious state of mind and alot of black folks are unconscious.

Oldenough

Oh yeah, Tavis pissed me off - he was acting like a little bit** about Barack not being in New Orleans and the anniversary of Martin Luther King's death.

Barack is not just a black man - he is a person and we can't expect this man to jump every time the black community wants him. He has to do what's right by everyone - not just the black race.

Dang, Tavis, get over it already.

ChiEmbassyMuzk

Tavis actin like a hoe, if the man wanna be the POTUS (pres. of the united states retard lol) he gotta campaign in the states that are electing him not come to your dumb ass block party...besides tavis in bed wit the clintons anyway helpin them sell books and make that $100mil they been stashin away from our asses

www.myspace.com/chicagoembassy

ladywoods

I don't believe Tavis is an Uncle Tom however he definitely lost my support when he went against Obama how dare him lol.....YES WE CAN!

Ebonyblanco

OmegaMan....What's Going On?!

afroge

BLACKS ARE MAKING HISTORY: We as a black people have been characterized as a people that do not stick together, as a people that is not intelligent, as a people that pull each other down, and so forth, CHARACTERIZATIONS THAT WE ALL KNOW ARE NOT TRUE!!!!!!

But the reason we have not pulled together in the past, is because we have never had anyone that we believe would be capable of promoting our agenda, that would stand a chance against the so called "establishment".....UNTIL OBAMA.

OBAMA gave us something to believe in again, he renewed our hope, he gave us something to look forward to, he renewed our faith in our Constitution and as a result..EVERY BLACK PERSON IN THE UNITED STATES AND ABROAD IS SUPPORTING HIM. Tavis decided to go against this agenda, he attempted to take a stand to promote his own agenda, to make his show popular, to get him more ratings, and as a result... HE DISCOVERED THAT WHEN BLACKS DO COME TOGETHER, WHEN THEY DO PUT THEIR SUPPORT IN ONE BASKET....those of us that try to take a stand against this agenda WILL NOT GET OUR SUPPORT!!!!!!

I AM PROUD TO BE BLACK, I AM PROUD TO SEE THE UNITY BLACKS HAVE SHOWN DURING THIS NOMINATION PROCESS AND I PROUD OF OBAMA!!!!!!

Bulletproof_Loafers

It just goes to show that if you're black and you disagree with other black folk, they wanna start callin you a sell out or an Uncle Tom. I mean what did Tavis ever do other than disagree with Obama to make him an Uncle Tom? Can anyone honestly give me an answer? Doubt it! So stop hatin! You're the crabs in the barrell, not Tavis.

HUEmanbro

Afroge, I like the fact that blacks can stick together, but we tend to stick together or come together for the wrong reasons. Alot of our people are only voting for obama, because he has black skin and that shouldn't be a reason to vote for him. What about his policies and beliefs? I also agreewith Bulletproof_loafers. Black people we will quickly turn on our own if we don't agree with one another.

UKNOWUAINTRIGHT

Agree@Huemanbro

Why would anyone want to see him lose his job and then talk about black unity. LOL He has the right to be a Clinton backer just like you can be a Obama backer. Some people are taking it to far on both sides. Tavis should have known when he went on about Barrack he was going to be a target. Its all politics and Barrack also needs the votes of whites too. I am confused on how much blacks think things are going to change if he is elected. They need to also remember that their is another part of government that people need to actively vote in power progressive people in congress. If Obama or Clinton is elected. I liked the top 3 democratic nominees this year they gave the people some really good choices. People are taking it really personal and Tavis should have known that.

OldOtisSupreme

IS IT JUST OL' OTIS OR IS TOM JOYNER THE BIGGEST BAMA OF ALL TIME?

Desafinado

Much respect to Bulletproof_Loafers, HUEmanbro, and UKNOWUAINTRIGHT.

It was weird, I was just thinking about the "situation" yesterday and was wondering how it got so quiet after a while. I guess it never really ended after all. This is sad news, for real.

Bulletproof_Loafers

What up Hue? Despite our tumultuous past, it's good to see you.

DoctorT

Obama can't win the general election. There is no way in hell white americans gonna elect some 46 years old black man with a muslim name president of the USA. Tavis no Obama can't win! Republicans know they can beat a black man. Republicans and most white people are laughing at black people behind their backs, cause so many black people are so ignorant, actually believing a black man with a muslim name could be elected president! White people are laughing at Black People! If Obama were to win the Democrat nomination, he would lose every state. Republicans know they can't beat Hillary. If the super delegates have any common senses they will pick Hillary to run against McCain!

Bulletproof_Loafers

Hey Otis. Tom Joyner is a bama. My mom likes that show, but they are too old and unfunny(corny) for my liking.

kysauntie

That's what he gets. Who appointed him the spokesman for all blacks. He got insulted because Obama couldn't make his show when HE wanted him to, sounds a little diva to me. I lost all respect for him over this. This doesn't mean I am or am not a Obama supporter I just didn't like Tavis' way of handling it, would he have reacted the same if it were Hilary?

Pete

Peace out Tavis.......Tom (Joyner) is no uncle Tom, but Tavis may have claw like hands, and may like to hang around barrels! YES WE WIll Go OBAMA!

Bulletproof_Loafers

@DoctorT. Republicans been beatin on black folks for years. Aint that the truth

ebonieladi

Amen to Afroge. I couldn't have said it better. Also many people are critical of black people for voting for Obama because he is black. Many white people are voting for Clinton and McCain for the same reasons. When you look at it what are our choices? Hillary who has a serious credibility problem, McCain who wants to keep us in Iraq for the next 100 years or Obama who at least sounds credible. We don't know what he will be able to do but he comes off much better than the other two candidates. I guess the lesser of the 3 evils may not be bad at all.

HUEmanbro

what's good @ Bullet?

Bulletproof_Loafers

Still fightin the good fight Hue. Im still the opiniated outspoken dreamer. I just dont do it on MTO that much any more. About to go on a world tour. Next month I'm going to a few countries in Europe, and Im planning my first trip to west Africa. Bullet's really goin places

@ Bulletproof, HUEmanbro, Uknow, and Desafinado.

I 100% agree with you guys.

O_ITZ_ME

I'm a big fan of TJMS and looked forward to Tavis's time on the air. There were a few things he said as of late that I didn't like. Tavis,Al,Jesse and the like are warriors for our race. If folks like these do not stand up for us we are in a world of trouble. Some on this site will not fight for anything they much rather hate on those thate are fighting. My heart dropped when I learned of this. I wish Tavis just take some time off and come back when the election is over. We need him. I going to vote for Obama if he makes however if he keeps on this trend I'm going to have to think about that thing long and hard. Tavis I wish you well, keep fighting wherever you are. Tom keep doing what what you are doing. Black folks that really care about our race keep fighting and I thank all of you from the bottom of my soul.

PKINT

What the Fluck! Good Riddens! It's one thing to support someone openly and proudly but to support Hillary by bashing Barack every chance you get air time and playing both sides of the fence is reprehensible, loathsome...like Samuel L. says..that's some repugnant sh!t! Why would you do that to the 1st Black man with a real chance at making current life shifting history..Bye Tavis! that's why i never signed that Covenant with Black America BS because i knew you was'nt real! sad SMH...mmm

MsVlicious

Goodbye Uncle Tom Good Work For The MAN......

od26

Bullettproff, I'm gonna tell you what he did wrong. He did it in a public forumn. As black people we are not yet in a position to openly criticize each other in the media. Good example I agree with a lot of what Bill Cosby said, but I did not agree with the setting and where he said it. We need to still air our differences out in private because other people (white people) always take what we say and use it against us. Another example is Hannity and Colmes, they disagree but believe in the end they still agrre about most things behind closed doors. The media is powerful, and we don't have enough power or a strong enough collective voice to come out in the media and talk bad about one another when we are all trying to ultimately get ot the same place. Other people are there already, were not. When Cosby said that every white came out and agreed, and said this is what we been saying all the time about negroes, he only made it harder for those that he depicted that were really trying to do better. Lets bash the Michael Steele's out of your town, and the J.C Watts, Clarence Thomas types because they have no interest in helping black folk. Let's not bash someone in public that is reaching for the same goal as me or you.

Nytique

DoctorT - I beg to differ...

Hillary's credibility is shot! She lied several times about being "under sniper fire", and about plenty more... and all of her supposed experience consists of being married to the President. Sleeping in the White house does NOT mean you know how to run a country...

Not to mention that currently in the polls of McCain vs. Obama and McCain vs. Clinton, if a national election were held now McCain would BEAT Hillary 45% to 36%, and he leads Obama 44% to 43%. Hillary can't beat McCain...hell, Hillary can't beat Obama! If she can't beat Obama how would she win against McCain? Besides... as much as we complain about racism in this country there's still a lot of sexism. I currently live in the South, and the same bigots you say won't vote for a black man will tell you "I'd rather vote for that colored boy before I let a WOMAN run my country!" I've heard it too many times, in passing conversation, on the news, all over. Hillary isn't the 2nd coming of Bill, and as much as you want to believe she will, she can't win. Period.

Thkm

I completely agree with PKINT, of ofcourse disagree with Hue, and Bullet. You have to be either extremely naive, or simply put a 'Hater' to support Tavis. Maybe some are just blessed with the gift of discernment, but if you can honestly assert that Tavis' critcisms of Barack, were well-intentioned, and constructive, Whoa onto you! It was Soooooo painfully obvious that it was steeped in something much deeper, despite his Best efforts to appear otherwise! It almost showed itself as an 'irrational' suspicion, or distrust of Obama.

Now don't get me wrong whatsoever, I'm all about 'vetting' a candidate, and calling certain disagreements on policy, or thought into question, but it's when you disingenously do so, while having having your own agenda, as was Very clear with Tavis. Raising 'legitimate' questions, and concerns, means not: attempting to covertly discredit the individual in the process, while trying to 'appear' objective!

So I say shame on you Tavis! Shame on you, and others like you, for not using the excuse of giving Barack a 'free pass, because he's black', but for not giving him a pass at all! Due to personal feelings of jealousy, resentment, or possibly being a 'threat' to your position in the Black community. Now as much as I applaud, indeed celebrate Tavis's efforts, and contributions toward the 'cause', and being a strident leader in our community, he, and others like him make the same mistake, and fall into the same trap, when they start to believe their own hype!!

voodoolady

the DUMBEST thing i ever heard was that people should be in agreement cuz they are BLACK...thats whats wrong with us now...1 track mind...sh*t is always black & white...im GLAD that Tavis is using his OWN mind to form an opinion unlike the imbeciles that visit this site...im rolling with Obama, but i certainly dont believe that he is a SAINT and PERFECT...please stop puttin that on his shoulders...yall setting yall self up for disappointment when yall realize that he is in fact HUMAN....ive been rolling with Tavis since his first days at BET and hes always been opinionated(THANK GOD) rather than just go with corporate interests(Pimp Al & Messy Jessy??)...the REAL beef is with Bill O'Reilly, McCain & BUSH...SMH...is there ANY HOPE for the black race and our one dimensional minds???

voodoolady

and most of u "BLACK FOLK" do more to shame the race than Tavis(who has been a TIRELESS advocate for black issues) could EVER do...SMMH

voodoolady

nobody wants u to question or criticize Obama...lemme ask this...then how the HELL can he be president??? what job is under more scrutiny??? Bush takes a lick EVERYDAY...

voodoolady

As black people we are not yet in a position to openly criticize each other in the media. [SPAM][SPAM]_____________

The level of stupidity is completely overwhelming...

voodoolady

why the EFF arent u negroes OUTRAGED that NONE of the republicans bothered to show for the BLACK conference??????

I'll wait.....

Nytique

As far as Tavis concerned, I feel like this is a free country (as free as it's gonna get for not at least) and the man can believe in whatever he wants. He has that right, we all do. Did I agree with his political views? Nope... because I have a right to my opinion just like him, but I didn't want him to quit either.

krw

Al and Jesse are not of the same mindset as Tavis. They actually support Obama. Also Tavis wasn't fired. According to Tom Tavis decided to leave the show on his own. You need to read and listen before commenting

Thkm

Voodoolady, ok, ok!!! As I clearly stated in my post, I have lauded Tavis foe the extremely positive, and beneficial things he has done in his position. What I called him to task, was the fact that he fronted like a mofo, trying to show his self as impartial, all the while CLEARLY being an Hillary supporter, and Obama dissenter, that's all!!! If you support her, I'm perfectly fine with that, and contrary to what other's migh not believe, We black folks ain't stupid...we can see through someone else's bullshit. Everyday..Obama this, Obama that.. Even TJ, a very close, loyal friend, long-time supporter.. hell a Tavis 'worshiper', was gettin tired of it, And I think He had a few things to say to Tavis(only speculation of course), one of the reason why he ultimately decided to leave. It's a wonder, he couldn't 'handle the pressure', more like he couldn't handle people calling him on his bullshit!!

getalifeyall

@Nytique this country is not as free as you think you will soon find out.

Howardnc

As an avid TJMS listener, I am sad to see Tavis go... But life goes on. Maybe Tavis can now focus on other more important "black folk issues" as he would say it.

I am not mad at the change... But I feel that Tavis CONTINUES to be upset with the Obama camp for pushing him off---- when they were a NO SHOW for his State of the Black Union show. Also, he wants Obama to itemize and outline what HIS NEW PLANS are for Black America, kinda like the Contract with America that the Republicans had under Newt Gingrich so long ago... And, HE (Tavis) is still upset with Barack & Michelle for not being IN Memphis, TN April 4th for the MLK Commemoration.

All n all, I'm never going to hate on Tavis. But #1 HE SHOULD TELL US HOW HE REALLY FEELS ABOUT BARACK OBAMA (becuz he never has)!! AND 2) HE SHOULD TELL BLACK AMERICA THAT HE SUPPORTS HILLARY CLINTON... THATS WHY HE IS <<<KINDA>>> hatin' on Barack Obama so so much!

Goodnight Mr. Tavis Smiley!

Howardnc

voodoolady Flag post why the EFF arent u negroes OUTRAGED that NONE of the republicans bothered to show for the BLACK conference??????

I'll wait..... *********** ********** *************

who cares about the GOP and their agenda anyway! Where has it ever gotten BLACK America....?

Look at your History and take this with a grain of salt, for what it MAY be worth! The "great" Abraham Lincoln was a Repuclican from Illinois and he 'supposidly' freed the slaves in 1863 with the Emancipation Proclamation.

Anytime Republicans take office, they and their policies always keep the ca$$$$h money in the US Government and that means that social and other programs that USUALLY benefit minorities like job training, grants, SBA and low interest loans are unavailable or cut. Thus leaving the entire community, meaning "ALL o' US" without the boots or straps, no pot nor a window... you get me, Im sure!

So--- again, who cares about the Republicans!!!!!

HarlemHustle

I totally agree with MissMaiTai....That dude been an uncle Tom since he first started his career...just Tomming for no reason

VuittonDon

All this back in and forth about Tavis is very unnesscary. First thing i'm sure most people in here at one time or another in their lives has had someone "HATE" on you and quite frankly among our people its quite expected. Now Tavis does have to get a L for tryin to act he doesn't support Hillary but we all have know for a long time he is getting kickbacks from the Clintons so what did you really expect. Now with that being said since Obama happens to be black and Tavis is supposed to be a "A Voice of Black America" well he is just earning his money. If you call that a Uncle Tom I dont, It's more of a sellout type of deal if you ask me. Just for the record OBAMA 08.

Nytique

getalifeyall @Nytique this country is not as free as you think you will soon find out. [SPAM]______________

Of course i know the country ain't totally free that's why I said "as free as it's gonna get for now". There are too many politicians with their own agendas taking kick backs from lobbyists and secret agendas in the government and back room media conspiracies to with hold info and keep the public dumbed down and, etc., etc. I could go on all day! We by no means live in a lollipop land full of ponies that eat rainbows and poop butterflies...we're in the United States and it is what it is. All I'm saying is whether you agree with the man, or not (cause I don't)he should be able to say what he thinks just like you and I can. Aight... I am OFFICIALLY off my soapbox. :)

DragonLeo

i like Tavis....and good luck to him in his future endeavors....

AskSomebody

Bye bye...

Bringthanoize

I could care less that Tavis doesn't like Obama(neither do I)but to be a Clinton "house brother" is very self revealing. Tavis is played out anywayz!

voodoolady

@howardnc...i made the analogy cuz we are worried about the wrong thing...republicans RUN America whether u want to admit it or not...BUSH, Cheney, Scooter Libby, Karl Rove are all the Mafia, in my opinion...they operate as such...we need to focus on getting them outta office...and everybody is outraged and upset with Tavis for choosing to voice his opinions but all the while MCCAIN is gaining popularity...we should DEMAND that they are accountable and stop behaving like this is the way sh*t is supposed to go...I AM outraged that our issues arent important enough but im MORE outraged that that is ok with black people...just like u(see above)...we can CHANGE this(according to OBAMA) but YALL rather call Tavis(whose done more for blacks than any of YOU) an Uncle Tom...Focus, people...

Hitman

He wasn't fired, he quit. but he's still been hating on Obama, but other than that, the man has always had our backs.

darsco

THIS IS SOOOO SAD, I'm a clinton supporter. I like her experiance so that makes me an uncle tom huh? TAVIS has a right to support whoever he wants and if Barack was white he WOULD NOT be this popular. Clinton has served for two terms, barack has done half of one. Let him do two or three terms b4 we decide. Tavis has a right to support WHOMEVER he chooses too. Yall need to put yall school age family members onto things like eyes on the prize, learn about OUR history in this country. let them know there would be NO AMERICA if it was not for Blacks. Give them REAL choices. I like Senator Obama and I feel he has a bright future. NOW is not the time for a newbie in the white house. And teach ya kids black people. stop hating on eachother . instead of buying $300 sneakers for ya kids and young relatives buy them EYES ON THE PRIZE, Roots, Teach them that about what black people all over the world have done. how many of yall know that HAITI was the 1st free nation controlled by blacks? READ PEOPLE AND TEACH! stop judging! GO SENATOR CLINTON! str8 2 da white house

voodoolady

List Obama Haters Here:

Hillary Clinton John McCain George Bush Bob Johnson Magic Johnson Bill O'Reilly Bill Clinton Chelsea Clinton Roseanne Barr Dick Cheney Karl Rove Scooter Libby Condoleeza Rice Mitt Romney Ron Paul Rudy Giuliani ANY Republican And the list goes on and on.......................

Why is TAVIS being singled out??? and where does it say that a black man can only vote for a black man??? WTF is democracy??? SMH...we r doomed...

voodoolady

@darsco...i know well about Haiti and speaking of, wtf is up with the food shortage??? all u proud upstanding black folk need to be more concerned about how our brothers and sisters there are eating DIRT COOKIES...i saw it on the news last night...could u imagine mixing dirt and water to fill your belly? one ladies stomach had to be lanced and DIRT came out...this right here is the REAL...eff politics...this is humanity...we need to do something people...instead of talking

This is Tavis' official statement. More on Tuesday during his regularly scheduled commentary.

_______________

Tavis Smiley Statement Regarding His Decision

to Leave The Tom Joyner Morning Show

There is no way to put into words the love and respect that Tom Joyner and I have for each other, or the love affair that I’ve had with TJMS listeners for almost 12 years now.

Due to the overwhelming amount of phone calls and emails I have received from listeners and other media, I wanted to briefly clarify a few issues that I will address more fully in my regular TJMS commentary on Tuesday morning, April 15, at 8:20 a.m. ET.

I did not “quit” the Tom Joyner Morning Show effective immediately. In July I will celebrate my 12th anniversary with the show, and as I discussed with Tom, it is my intention to take on the issues of the day in my commentary twice every week with the same energy, passion and commitment until the end of June.

Contrary to what has been suggested, I have decided to clear some things off my plate so that I can devote my time and attention to some exciting and empowering projects that The Smiley Group, Inc. and other divisions of my company have underway this summer, this fall and beyond.

I look forward to continuing the dialogue on Tuesday and in the coming months. www.tavistalks.com

Tavis received a lot of heat for his trivial actions. A very influential man, a mutual friend of both men, sided with Obama and told Tavis about it. I can't remember his name but I saw him on CNN and he said he will not publicly speak about it again because he respects Tavis and Obama. He ripped into Tavis though.

Tavis has lost a lot of support. BET got rid of him and now look. He may not have been fired from Tom's show, but it doesn't look good. What venue will he have now? He's had a hard time getting any kind of mainstream airplay.

TROOPER

@ voodoolady : FUK TAVIS (MTO) DIDN'T DO NOTHING. HIS AZZ SHOULDN'T HAVE BENT OVER FOR THE CLINTONS. HE SAID MICHELLE COULDN'T BE ON HIS SHOW BUT HE LET HILLARY GO ON IT ACTING LIKE HE ASKING HER HARD QUESTIONS. SO FUK HIM!

AND TO THE OTHERS THAT SAY HE NOT A UNCLE TOM JUST BECAUSE HE WROTE A BOOK. DAMN I WRITE A BOOK TO IF I KNEW I WILL MAKE A PROFIT FROM IT AND ANYWAY WHY HE DON'T HAVE OBAMA BOOK ON HIS SITE BUT HE HAVE PUNK AZZ BILL CLINTON BOOK ON THE FIRST PAGE. TAVIS IS A BIEEEEEEEEAAAAACCCCT TTTHHHHH AZZ CRAB WITH NO CLAWS TO GRAB WITH CUZ OBAMA STILL MOVING BABY.

________

You mean OTHER than his nightly TV show and his nationally syndicated weekend radio show, his 3 appearances on the Tonight Show this year and his appearance last week on Bill Maher...

Other than THAT mainstream airplay you mean?

Howardnc

@voodoolady

to the contrary... Republicans dont run America. Ca$h money runs America... And who controls the cash money...Who controls the Banking or the Federal Reserve Bank... As we knew it for such a long time... It was Alan Greenspan now its Beranke...Both Jews with MONEY, both Democrats.

Correction ---- money runs America, its not a party affiliated issue.

And I still will never hate on Tavis, he does him! If he is for Hillary---so be it!

Yes, we need accountability from our leadership <<period>> We need to worry about the social and economic issues that have crushed and or bamboozled Black America! It could be a long rant, but, you know that we need to focus on what we put into our minds n hearts and not on our azzes! Education is the key!

Peace yall!

I love TJMS.And been hearing Tavis talk [EXPLETIVE] all year.Sometimes I don't get why he said most of the stuff and I just started to turn off during his segment. You have to really hear him and hear how he delivers the message. He use to talk about "accountability" but he so dumb because you can't be accountable until you actually do it.Tavis is SALTY because Barack declined to go to his lil' conference. He's like a little baby, if he can't have it his way he pout and pout and pout until he couldn't pout no more.So he ended it here because he couldn't pout no more.If Tavis wanted to get "us" to think about issues then it sure was to get us to think negative. His delivery was wack.He may speak like he some intelligent but he just as unintelligent as they come.Tavis got some grudge toward Obama and it's not that hard to see.

bitai

This is a damn shame. You just can't be black and say ANYTHING negative about Obama, can you? For goodness sakes, people are treating this Negro like he's the king or something, and this guy couldn't care less for blacks, except to get their votes. I've never seen anything like it. It's just shameful that the black community is behaving like this. You guys really expect every black person to follow the majority. Support Obama, or you're an Uncle Tom. It's gotten to the point where I almost respect someone more if they're critical of Obama, because they're not so in awe of him that they can't see straight.

Nevagan

I never listen to public radio anyway.

opining

The problem here is Smiley was a political analyst for the Tom Joyner show….and it’s clear that his “preference” for the democratic nominee is Hillary Clinton. That said, criticism about the “foo-pas” of one candidate while over looking things such as…the Bosnia lie; the over stated health care story (you know the one about the woman that died without coverage…truth is, yes she died, but she had coverage), the whole pseudo first wife president thing when her own schedule shows tea and crumpets on the lawn…ignoring ALL that and still trying to claim the “impartial analyst” label simply doesn’t fly. Then of course there’s the listening audience, who may have been more lenient of “fair” and “balanced” criticism, but his amounted to bashing to advance his personal agenda. Maybe Rush or faux news (fox) will pick him up….they like his type of rag mag journalism.

I have followed Tavis for awhile and have enjoyed his insightful commentaries over the years. I hope that there are no other issues other than what he has stated for his resignation. We need to be able to "agree to disagree" or we are doomed to always lack as a people. He will be sorely missed on that show.

I_SAID_IT_AND_WHAT

@ Doctor T YOU SAID "Obama can't win the general election. If the super delegates have any common senses they will pick Hillary to run against McCain!"

Someone finally recognizes the truth. If Obama is elected as the democratic front runner the presidential election will deviate into a racial war. Most of his white supporters are putting on a facade, because they know dayum well if "mr.black'" competes against "mr.white" they will revert to thier "old" ways of thinking. Its amazing that black folks actually believe deep in their ignorant hearts that obama would stand a chance against Mc Cain.Ha Ha..Thats some funny ISH ...Did we not learn anything from the Florida episode? White people have a strategic way of tweeking the "voting system" for their kind.Another dilemma that is going to mess him up, is that pastor of his. WATCH! If a push becomes a shove and the end result is little black (with a muslim name) vs. little white boy, the seromon by obama's pastor is going to annihilate his chances of winning.Racism will quickly surface and turn the election into a black vs. white situation.

I_SAID_IT_AND_WHAT

I SUPPORT HILLARY

babybabe

Please..this bucket of crab mentality has to stop but i know it would'nt I could care less about Travis, AND in his official statement he left because he had " stuff on his plate" If Obama was white would there be this much flack. The same way he acted against Obama is the same way some ppl are acting on here against each other and You know what to each his own. But Travis is not my voice , his not my saviour like any other black person he speaks he's mind. I'm for Obama period, you cant settle a squabble without the other side's (Obama's response).SAY YOUR PEACE AND MOVE ON. lovely81

This is just an example of how much this political campaign has separated so many people. Folks are really passionate about this, and trust that it will only get worse.

matman12600

Tavis is hoping for a job with Hillary if she wins I applaude Tom for never backing down of his support of Obama.

cristall

Tavis and Tom are getting on my damn nerves. Why didn't Tom just say that Tavis wasn't leaving until June on Friday? This is just some trickery and more divide and conquer techniques. I'm beginning to believe that neither of these negroes is about the right thing.

cristall

This is nothing more than the actions of an insecure, half crazy man (Tavis) trying to flex his muscle.

gnavoxy

Criticizing Obama doesn't make one an Uncle Tom. That's stupid reasoning. Only and idiot would say such a thing.

Most of you all are so desperate to see a Black president. But yet we are still at the lower socio-economic stratum of this country.

A Black president doesn't mean anything to me. However, economic power does.

Further, Obama is a big tax and spend liberal. I want a president that's for lowering taxes...not raising them.

lynn66fun

What makes this matter so disheartening is the fact that I use to be Tavis Smiley's number #1 fan. I believed that he was for the people, but now I view him in a totally different light. It's sad that a man of his stature should hate on a positive hopeful like Barrack Obama. It just shows that once some black men achieve a certain status, he's not willing to back up another positive brother who's trying to make positive changes in society.

tiredoffoolishness

The one thing I really despise and gets me irritated are people who don't check the facts before they open their piehole. Tavis was not fired from TJMS, he resigned. There is no feud between he and Senator Obama. And,the last time I checked, this is America and everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Tavis is not hating on Senator Obama, all he is doing is getting people to look at the issues. Why does he need to hate? He has no reason to hate. Then there are those that say he is full of himself. If any of those who have spoken ill of Tavis have read his books, particularly his last book, have really, I mean really listened to him, you would know that Tavis is the genuine article. This is someone who is out to help, not hurt. Just because you don't agree with him not coming straight out in support of Obama because he is a black man does not mean he is an Uncle Tom, a hater or full of himself. He hasn't come out for Senator Clinton either. That is what is wrong with black folks today. Always putting one another down. The ones who do most of the talking are the ones who are sitting on their butts waitng for people like Tavis, Sen. Obama, Rev. Sharpton, etc to do something. People want to complain and put people down, but what you need to ask yourself is: Are you part of the solution or the problem? What are YOU doing to make this world a better place? Are you mentoring young people, are you feeding the homeless, are you helping to make your comminties a better place to live or are you just shucking and jiving and putting down those who are just because they are not doing what you thing they should be doing or supporting the people you think they should be supporting. Take a look at the person in the mirro and think before you speak.

duceconstant

preach tiredofthe foolishness i feel you for trill ..but i am vehemently against anyone in our race that would support another white person over our brother!!! whites have ahd since 1776 to try and run this country right and it's gone down hill..if u aint with obama i say [EXPLETIVE] u!!! even if he may not be black enough for some dont sit and bring the brotha down!!! obama represents hope for all!! he cant be racist towards whites with him having a white mother..and he cant betray blacks having a black father!! SO THIS IS THE PERFECT candidate for this day in time, with the fall of the economy and racisms ugly face coming from behind closed doors( because it never went anywhere) so keep ur dick eaters closed(in a negative way) when it comes to brother obama family!!!

tiredoffoolishness

Another thing I wanted to say, why do we as Black people continue to vilify one another? Why can't we stick together like other from races do? We put each other down so much, it takes all our might to get back up sometimes. When one of us is doing well, for awhile, it's all fine and good, But as soon as one of us disagrees with the status quo or seem to support someone other than the person a lot of folks think we should, we are considered an Uncle Tom, or we must be in the pocket of the enemy! Please, that is getting old and tired. Our young men are dying in the streets. Not at the hands of another race, but by each others hands. We want the the powers that be and law enforcment to do something about it. Well, when it happens and they try to get information when there were plenty of witnesses, what happens? Our eyes close, our ears close, our doors close. And, worse of all, our hearts close. Why? We are scared of reprisals from the very criminals that may have killed even our own family member. When is it going to stop? Then we want to complain, but when we sit and do nothing, we become part of the problem, not the solution. It's sad, but did Martin, Malcolm, Medgar and countless others die in vain? Did our ancestors, who were taken from their land in Africa, bound in chains at the bottoms of boats, beaten, raped and treated like animals, arriving here in 1619 go through all they went through so we can stand on the street corners selling drugs to one antoher, kill one another, not get the education we are entitled to and make something of ourselves? No! If they did, then that is a damn shame! Then we want to blame others. It's time to stand up and be counted. Stop complaining. Do something positve about. If you don't like the way things are, change it. Mentor a young person, check in on an elderly person in your neighborhood, respect your elders, respect one another. Get your education, Get a job and become a productive citizen. That is the best honor you can give those who gave their life in the struggle. It's time to wake up! Stop putting one another down because your views are not their views. Spend time and energy working toward making the community you live in a better one. Take repsonsiblity for yourselves, your families, your future.

tiredoffoolishness

Sorry for the typos.

sillyme

To the idiot who said that Obama isn't Black I suggest you check your history. If that is the case then more than 50% of so-called "African-Americans" aren't Black either. We all know that ol' Massa was raping black female slaves throughout the entire slavery period. Let's also not forget that there many poor working class white women (what we call white trash nowadays) who married free black men - if you don't believe me go research it for yourself. I find it hilarious that the same people who think Obama isn't black enough because he is biracial are the same people who regard Halle Berry, Alicia Keys and Tyson Beckford (who has Asian ancestry) as Black. If you don't think Obama is Black then neither is your "light-skinned" mother/brother/sister/aunt/cousin.
