: It appears that the whole Jay Z-Glastonbury controversy continues. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that in a recent interview, top UK rapper Dizzee Rascal made some pretty damaging comments about Jigga.

Rapper Dizzee Rascal says it is a "funny" decision to give Jay-Z a headline slot at Glastonbury.Gee ... Wonder what if Live Nation - who just paid Jay $150M - would disagree....The star, who is also playing at the festival, believes mainstream hip-hop acts like Kanye West or Eminem would have had a wider appeal.
He told 1Xtra: "I don't know if Jay-Z has got that cross over element. Kanye West or Eminem, they've both got that. Jay-Z is a bit of a funny one."
Let's not forget that little ditty he did with Blink 182 ("What The Hell Are You Waiting For?")...I'm sure crossing into alternative rock has to account for something...And I know dude aint even speaking because he surely doesn't have crossover appeal himself..how many of YOU have heard of Rapper Dizzee Rascal?

Man I had to post another one.......why are ya'll concerned about having to appeal to another group of people....they aint worried about ya'll ***..........*** The music was started by us and for us and needs to be about us......money and [EXPLETIVE] done took the game over though.......guess it was doomed from the beginning.......we never had any power to do anything -- we take what they give us..........
Check it, there is no electoral college in the music business at the end of day the people make the vote. (On a side note I don't think Jay-Z is out there buying his own albums like some people have to move up in the ranks-ain't pointing fingers). ANYWAY, with that being said we know that the majority still feels that Jay-Z is relevant and obviously STILL has crossover appeal.
I mean, they made him an embassador in Africa for something, COME ON NOW........his MUSIC was the foundation that got him there (everything leads to something else)....and his business savy has kept him there. For the most part he makes educated moves. In his rap career he has taken the PROPER steps to become a sure success. Nothing irrational or random. The man got "stronger after Ether, .......WOOOOOOOW!-lol"
And he doesn't take too big of a loss anywhere financially........ and if he does he is sharing some of that burden with someone else. I don't know for sure if Jay-Z is the sole owner of anything. To many expenses, paperwork, effort, to much risk, to much time........he just has a stake in a bit of everything that allows his money to make money-while he sleeps. SMART MAN........forget rap. This is HIP-HOP and he knows THE BUSINESS-on and off the stage. If that doesn't crossover, what does.
People don't just like Jay-Z because he can rap. The dude is an icon on many levels, *** went from HIP-HOP to Hewlett Packard. That is why people will continue to embrace him. Because he seems to have it all and handle it all pretty well.
Hell, I noticed that and I ain't never purchased any of his albums, nor will I ever. I am not a true fan of his. The truth is the truth, the man is everywhere.

Not sure what rock you've been living under for the last 10-15 years but I'm pretty sure it takes more than just a small fan base in NY to sell the amount of albums and to amass the amount of wealth that he has. P.S. Jay is worth more than Beyonce. Therefore, if anyone should be worried about a pre-nup it should be him.
MTO I read this story a few day's ago, and it was quoted that the "UK stated that Jay would bring "Black Hip Hop, and they (UK) did not want that simulating it as "Gangsta Rap," in their country." Ok, I get where he is coming from, but he is TRASH. How did he become a top UK rapper? I've noticed that the rap music that I've heard come out of Europe isn't that appealing. Now neither is some of the nonsense we have over here, but for the true rappers still out there...I have yet to hear a European rapper come any where close to being as good.

Eminem's first 3 albums combined sold almost 50 millon worldwide. Controversy sells in Hip-Hop, and on that Marshall Mathers LP he had it all, issues with his mother, his wife, Bubblegum Pop Singers and the *** community and that album sold 21 million worldwide. Its like the more problems he had, the more he sold LOL! But he is a Great MC though!

I understand you tryin to defend Jigga, BUT Lil Wayne is that DEAL!!!! He is one of THE most controversial artists right now, but that is only b/c of his lifestyle. Jeezy is HARD as well!!! Plies is.......okay. I like his swag BUT I just needed to let you know that. You may not like Lil Wayne's subject matter, but as a lyricist, you have to admit that he is HOTT!!
The festival thatJay-Z is meant to be headlining is a rock/indie festival. Therefore Jay-Z is out of place headlining. That is not up for discussion. It is what it is. The organisers tried to switch it up by having different styles of music on the main stage but it has not worked. The other stages at the festivals host hip hop, dance, world music etc but never on the mainstage and headlining so that is why is "news".
Dizzee was correct in saying Jay-Z doesnt have crossover appeal. Because that is the case in the UK. I cant speak for the other countries in the world.
Kanye and Em are more successful in the UK in terms of how much their music is played, the number of stations their music is played and the broad range of people who know who there are. In the states Jay may be sell more records, sell out concerts but this is not the case in the UK. Please dont try and chat *** to me as i live in the UK and i know what im talking about.
Look at the stats, Kanye and Em have had more success in higher rated singles and albums than Jay-Z. People know who he is but people dont sing his tracks like they do for Kanye. Kanye even did the the concert for Princess Diana. Where was Jay-Z? It appears Jay-Z is an american icon who is respected around the globe but doesnt sell as much as Kanye and Em in the UK. All generations of people sing Golddigger, stronger, diamonds etcetc but ask the same spectrum of people to name Jay-Z tracks and you'll probably get Hard Knock Life, Crazy in Love, Bonnie and Clyde. Most pop fans who buy the records know him as a rapper but they know him more because of the relationship he has with Beyonce. Most people could name Kanye's and Em's albums but the same group of people would find it hard to name 3 Jay-Z albums.
In regards to Dizzee Rascal, he is popular in the UK because he represents a demographic of the UK who see themselves in him. Americans really wont understand it because you dont come from the UK but you may appreciate it like how we dont fully understand US rappers but you appreciate the music and admire the talent.
UK rap, grime and garage may be lost on Americans but it is what it is. Its our music and it represents us. We dont question such rubbish as crunk, chopped and screwed and another crappy song that sounds like the beat was made by a 3yr old kid but Americans seem to question others people's interpretations of hip hop. Hip Hop is an expression of the black youth of NY. So the youth of other countries tried to show an expression of themselves from wherever they come from. Even if you dont get it at least try to appreciate it and not dismiss it and claim the greatest rappers are all from America but that is plain silly.
