Two of the cops were black and one was Latino, and Sean Bells friend who was *** was well was Puerto Rican. The fact that it wasnt a white victim may have an influence on the not-guilty verdict,cuz perhaps if he was white there would have been a bigger outrage and those cops would have gone down, but them getting *** was just a bunch of cops who got high and mighty and though they were absolute power because they are cops and went off on a power trip!
THey were undercover and never even flashed their badges. *** if i was Sean Bell & co I would have tried to get out of there too. If some dudes w/ guns are telling me to stop and dont flash badges, Im not going to stop either!
I am totally appalled! This is an outrage and unfortunately a sign of times... we are in a terrible state folks when cops can keep receiving these types of verdicts for senseless killings and abuse. They can make examples out of rappers, actors, athletes, and "some" politicians but the police force is shielded? What's even worst is that the Bell family will undoubtedly receive monetary compensation in the civil suit as this will be the way of pacifiying the injustice done in the criminal case. King,Diallo,and countless others have disappeared off the radar once they got the check and we all sat back along with them. We can't sit back anymore. We are losing a battle folks because we settle. On the verdict, it is a great injustice, and somehow, I'm not surprised... I live in NY (on LI), but I did live in Brooklyn for a while and the NYPD are the worst!!! suffolk county cops aren't as bad... I knew there was shady stuff going on when they requested a judge trial, and there were reports from the family members that the DA's line of questioning for his own witnesses was actually helping the defense!!!
I believe the DA was just going through the motions and did not really want to prosecute the cops, but had to b/c of political reasons...
The fact that the cops were too afraid to go on the witness stand and explain their actions speaks volumes... obviously they were terrified of being cross-examined and having the holes in their stories exposed!!!

I'm not surprised at all by the verdict, but I'm *** sure angry as hell. One officer actually emptied a clip and reloaded another to continue to fire. Plus, these officers were undercover, and they followed Bell and his friends because they thought one of them was going to get a gun from the car. All the cop had to do was wait and see if they were actually going to get a gun, but no, he had to harrass them. Hell, I wouldn't stop if someone was approaching me in a threatning way at 4 in the morning either. I'm sure the police didn't announce that they were police because the guys didn't seem to know that at first. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It's all just ridiculous. SMDH

I am going to pray that this family get some peace because this is a complete and total miscarriage of justice and I am so saddened by the fact that this type of stuff can still be happening to our people. This man did nothing wrong, he loses his life on his wedding day and they haven't even offered an apology of any find. This country is so f-ed up.
One of my co-workers this morning had the nerve to come to my desk and say to me "You know, police really have a hard job and I really think that they get judged to harshly sometimes. We weren't there so we will never know what that man did to provoke the situation. They did go a tad bit far but that's what happens when you are in fear for your life. I do think they should have to go back and do like... I don't know... a month of sensitivity training but I certainly don't think that they should lose their jobs, families, and freedom over this. It was clearly a misunderstanding."

So let me get this right...if I'm standing on the corner selling drugs and someone just happens to *** a person in the head coming out of the store that I am standing in front of and I witness the whole thing. I'm not a "creditable" witness because I sell drugs?!?! The fact of the matter is I saw what happened - I was there! By IKIMULISA LIVINGSTON COOPERMAN City's most overruled jurist. January 26, 2008 -- The fate of three cops charged with the deadly *** of Sean Bell is in the hands of a no-nonsense Queens judge who has a reputation for being very fair - and very tough.
State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Cooperman agreed yesterday to hear the case against the NYPD detectives after the trio waived the right to a jury trial.
"This case will be tried nonjury," the judge said during the brief courtroom appearance.
He also granted a request to push the start of the trial back another three weeks, to Feb. 25.
Legal maneuvering is nothing new to Cooperman. The 74-year-old has presided over approximately 500 felony trials.
He has a reputation as a no-nonsense jurist and has been known to scold lawyers who step beyond the bar unprepared.
He once even threatened to eject a rape victim from his courtroom for crying too loudly.
Lawyer Marvyn Kornberg, who has represented numerous police officers in criminal cases, said the defense team representing Detectives Michael Oliver, Gescard Isnora and Marc Cooper made the right move in opting for a bench trial before Cooperman.
"It was a wise choice," Kornberg said. "Judge Cooperman - he's not a rubber stamp for the District Attorney's Office. The fact that he's close to retirement makes him an even more viable judge."
Oliver and Isnora are facing up to 25 years in prison for manslaughter. Cooper is charged with reckless endangerment and could avoid jail time.
In November 2006, Bell and two friends were leaving the groom's bachelor party at a strip club when he was killed in a barrage of 50 ***.
The cops' defense lawyers filed a change-of-venue motion, claiming that the jury pool had been poisoned by negative publicity.
According to one report, Cooperman's rulings are reversed more often than any other judge in New York City. He ordered one man locked up for 15 years to life for stealing $22 from an elderly man's pocket. The Appellate Division cut the sentence to two to four years.
If this doesn't PROVE that racism is still alive and that the justice system doesn't work, I don't know what does. There is no justification for what was done to those young men. I don't care what the police "thought"- you don't take lives on "thoughts". The fact that there was no gun in the car and that on officer emptied his full clip, reloaded and emptied it again should have sealed there fate in court. They did not have a jury trial, the judge made the decision. The same judge who is known for acquitting cops in the past. And, if it was a jury trial, 9 out of 10 the jury is not going to find the cops guilty because they are "cops" and they do so good for the city. She is saying that the verdict is right because there was 51 *** was out of 3 guns. 31 out of 1, 11 out of another, 4 out of another. She said the judge could not prove that which *** was right, which was wrong and the scene was botched and not protected so there was nothing that they could prove. Justice Arthur Cooperman delivered the verdict in a Queens courtroom packed with spectators, including victim Sean Bell's fiancee and parents, and at least 200 people gathered outside the building.
The verdict provoked an outpouring of emotions: Bell's fiancee immediately walked out of the room. His mother cried.
Outside the courthouse, which was surrounded by scores of police officers, many in the crowd began weeping as news of the verdict said. Others were enraged, swearing and screaming "Murderers! Murderers!" or "KKK!"
Bell, a 23-year-old black man, was killed in a hail of gunfire outside a seedy strip club in Queens on Nov. 25, 2006 — his wedding day — as he was leaving his bachelor party with two friends.
Officers Michael Oliver, 36, and Gescard Isnora, 29, stood trial for manslaughter while Officer Marc Cooper, 40, was charged only with reckless endangerment. Two other *** weren't charged. Oliver squeezed off 31 ***; Isnora fired 11 rounds; and Cooper *** four times.
The officers, complaining that pretrial publicity had unfairly painted them as cold-blooded killers, opted to have the judge decide the case rather than a jury.

The mood surrounding this case has been muted by comparison, although Bell's fiancee, parents and their supporters, including the Rev. Al ***, have held rallies demanding that the officers — two of whom are black — be held accountable.
Still, a phalanx of police officers, some uniformed and some in the department's community affairs polo ***, was stationed outside the courthouse Friday. The building was ringed by metal barricades. Some in the crowd wore buttons with Bell's picture or held signs saying "Justice for Sean Bell." After the verdict was read, some in the crowd approached officers but were held back; the jostling quickly died down.
After the verdict, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly acknowledged that some people were disappointed with the acquittals.
"We don't anticipate violence, but we are prepared for any contingency," he said.

The defense painted the victims as drunken thugs who the officers believed were armed and dangerous. Prosecutors sought to convince the judge that the victims had been minding their own business, and that the officers were inept, trigger-happy aggressors.
None of the officers took the witness stand in his own defense. Instead, Cooperman heard transcripts of the officers testifying before a grand jury, saying they believed they had good reason to use deadly force. The judge also heard testimony from Bell's two injured companions, who insisted the maelstrom erupted without warning.
Both sides were consistent on one point: The utter chaos surrounding the last moments of Bell's life.
"It happened so quick," Isnora said in his grand jury testimony. "It was like the last thing I ever wanted to do."
Bell's companions — Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman — also offered dramatic testimony about the episode. Benefield and Guzman were both wounded; Guzman still has four *** lodged in his body.
Referring to Isnora, Guzman said, "This dude is *** like he's crazy, like he's out of his mind."
The victims and *** were set on a fateful collision course by a pair of innocuous decisions: Bell's to have a last-minute bachelor party at Kalua Cabaret, and the undercover detectives' to investigate reports of prostitution at the club.
As the club closed around 4 a.m., Sanchez and Isnora claimed they overheard Bell and his friends first flirt with women, then taunt a stranger who responded by putting his right hand in his pocket as if he had a gun. Guzman, they testified, said, "Yo, go get my gun" — something Bell's friends denied.
Isnora said he decided to arm himself, call for backup — "It's getting hot," he told his supervisor — and tail Bell, Guzman and Benefield as they went around the corner and got into Bell's car. He claimed that after warning the men to halt, Bell pulled away, bumped him and rammed an unmarked police van that converged on the scene with Oliver at the wheel.
The detective also alleged that Guzman made a sudden move as if he were reaching for a gun.
"I yelled 'Gun!' and fired," he said. "In my mind, I knew (Guzman) had a gun."
Benefield and Guzman testified that there were no orders. Instead, Guzman said, Isnora "appeared out of nowhere" with a gun drawn and *** him in the shoulder — the first of 16 *** to enter his body.
"That's all there was — gunfire," he said. "There wasn't nothing else."
With tires screeching, glass breaking and *** flying, the officers claimed that they believed they were the ones under fire. Oliver responded by emptying his semiautomatic pistol, reloading, and emptying it again, as the supervisor sought cover.
The truth emerged when the smoke cleared: There was no weapon inside Bell's blood-splattered car.
There was no jury and that was soo supect to me from the beginning.
No weapon found, and one cop emptied his semi automatic and reloaded.

Remove race from this and see that this is a case of corruption. Law enforcement is so corrupt these days that it makes it hard for the good police to stand out. There are officers who wake up everyday just to protect and serve and then there are those who wake up to intimidate, hate and annihilate. There is no way regardless of testimony that these officers should have been accquitted. They clearly used excessive force. All they had to do was immobilize the vehicle by aiming at the tires. This is sad and all the racist comments is just as corrupt as the decision the jurors made. For the record there are excellent individual in the justice system as well as unjust. We need to vote more often to see who we want in positions of authority and get involved with our decision makers.

I am not saying that these cops were right. what I am saying is that people are MEAN, and these officers dont know what is going to happen so they have to approach incidents with caution and treat sometimes innocent people as a threat (if people would stop killing each other0 they wont have to be that way) I say this as a former soldier that had to be trained to understand that a person seen as a friendly might just blow your head off. If you dont think it happens watch the new about the bombings in Iraq.

We all agree that this situation is really bad. I find it funny that judges always wants the black man to CHANGE his ways, while inncidents like this one is proof that soceity doesn't want us to change.
The only way we can gain power over this case is if we the public remember him and this case. Not just us but our celbs or black congressmen needs to always keep this in the spot light. There has been so many martas(brothers and sisters) in the past who in time we just forgotten and that is what the police and the justice system want us to do. Call in to talk radio stations, have community chruch meeting with your youth, write letter to congress that we want true justice because people, I don't care what a active cop does no D.A. is going to prosecute him. Now, I am not knocking that police do not get killed by pedestrians. And, I understand that police officers has to do their jobs. But how can you explain 51 ***?? One cops used all of his *** and reloaded. So it was that dangerous that 51 *** (total) was fired? 31 from one cop, 11 from 1 cop, and 4 from another? Can that ever be justified. We know it is a cop issue but I do not see how 51 *** can be justified.

The Judge decided that their would be no Jury, because of the high publicity in the case, and the (murderer's) pig's fate were decided by the Judge. That is unfair, and unconstitutional, because Bell's attorney should have insisted on a jury. everyone knows, the state does not go against the state, so the judge mind were already made up, prior to the verdict. Black's, it's time we as a whole take a stand, on *** like this, and racial profiling. Enough is enough!!! Every black individual in NY, should ban together with a petition filed and signed, and submit it to the Mayor, the governor, the congressman, the state representative's, the legislature and the circuit court. The family should also file suit, in civil court for wrongful death, against every murderer involved, including the NYPD, and the city. 51 ***'s speaks a clear word of murder to me, and not having a reason, clearly say's unjustified murder. There is also what's called a "Blue Code of Silence" in every police department, they are coached into not snithing on one another, as well as, what to say if situations arise's, and one or more has to stand trial. I am watching CNN now and I am so upset at how the other cops are acting. You can look at them in the background with smug looks on their faces. You can even see the cops having other conversations. No sympathy shown or anything. Now people (which I hope do not) are going to take hands into their own hand to get "their own justice".

The law says, in criminal trial the PROSECUTION has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt a person's guilt. It is always up to the prosecution to make it's case. The judge felt as though they did not which is why the verdict came down the way it did.

if you were going to *** someone who also had a weapon, would you advertise it to that person or would you surprise him by acting as if you meant no harm?

Without police there is no structure. Even though the justice system is corrupt, it's still needed. They need to change the way they train these officers whether black or white. And they should make them accountable.

I feel like this is a messed up situation (as I stated in above posts). But, I feel like using Wesley Snipes as an example of people getting locked up is wrong. For one, he did not pay taxes. He knew what he was doing when he did not pay his taxes. Do I feel like he deserved 3yrs? No. But he deserved jail time and so did Vic. This situation is different. The cops deserve jail time and because they were cops did not get the jail time. But people already knew the cops were not going to get jail time, especially in NY. It was not like he accidentally decided not to pay taxes. He has an *** of money and did not pay them. I do believe in Karma and these cops are going to get what is deserved to them. If it is not exactly them, it could be a family member.

As a native New Yorker, I will say that I am not surprised at all. Yeah, it really hurts me to the core they these pigs got off, but I also understand that we are indeed living in the land of our OPPRESSOR. Its sad that many of you are still naive into thinking that any form of “justice” was going to be served today. I guess some of you thought that times has changed because of Obama. The fact is that times hasn’t changed, *** is getting worse. Racism is alive and well in this country. As far as the “Justice System” is concerned, many of you will be SURPRISED by what goes on under the veil. Just ask any of your friends and family members that actually been incarcerated. And no, I ain’t talking about some punk *** 8 month sentences either, lets talk 10 years and up. Are any of you even aware that once you are released and are still on parole that you are required to pay monthly restitution fee to the state? Oh, and if you decide not to pay, guess where your black *** is going back to? Extortion at it’s finest! I’m sorry to say this, but there were many before Sean Bell and sadly, there will be many after that will suffer the same travesty. That is why we as a people need to put all the negative *** aside and stand together, because nobody else don’t give a *** about us. No I dont live in NY I live in Atlanta,
But I was born in raise in brookln king county, Bedstuy at Macon and Ralph street. I was also Harassed by the police when I was a teenager. then when I grew up I reallized that they harrassed me because I hangin out at two a.m. on the stoop, and I was not in school in the middle of the day, and I was driving with expired licence plates. or I cursed out the Korean grocery store owner. I stopped doing all of that years ago and low and behold, the police dont pull me over, they dont ask me questions, they nod at me when I walk down the street, I am only twenty eight but they call me sir when I go to the department. now maybe it is just me, but when I stopped acting like a *** they stopped treating me like one and began treating me like a young black man.
Three things, first I dont really care what regard you hold me in,
Second is you nor I Know if procedure was followed. go to the pricinct and get a copy of their procedures for the use of deadly force them tell me.
Third I am by no way defending these officers. what I am trying to do is open up the possiblity that what many of you think about the police killing the man may not be correct. we were all mad about Rodney king, that was a travesty. It also was a travesty that most dont know is that he fought the officers before the tape began to record, it is also a travesty that he was a crack and heroine addict.
If you read two of my earlier post you will see that I think 51 *** is crazy.
now again and for the third time. without getting emotional,put yourself in the position of a police officer, you are put in a possition where every day you know that people dont like you for whatever reason. you know that some people will *** at you because they have an arrest warrant out on them and dont want to go to jail. or have drugs in the car, or are drunk, or on pcp.
some will *** at you because police are pigs and dont care about black people.(sarcasm) you are trained to always be on guard because that guy that you just pulled over for driving 20 above the speed limit who may look like a man in a rush to get to work may *** you in the back, because he has 4 kilos of coke in the truck.

To many times this has happened. This case with Sean Bell happened in NY, so you will hear about it BUT there are hundreds of cases like this in small towns like in my hometown Delray Beach, FL.
A few years ago, my best friends cousin, a 15 yr old KID was *** in the back of his head and killed, by a rookie cop, while driving thru the parking lot of a community center...He was on his way to a "kiddy dance". He was unarmed, a model student, never in trouble. He was just scared because he didn't have a license. The police claimed that he tried to run him over but the forensics do not support that. He was *** IN THE BACK OF HIS HEAD so obviously the pig had to stand in back of the moving car and take aim @ his head. THE OFFICER GOT OFF...No jail time...he eventually got his job back.
I feel the Bells' pain...There is never any Justice. We need to unite as a nation, not just New York

The non-whites in NYC are SOOOO docile it's a shame. If this was another city WE would make some NOISE! NYC cops are underpaid but $$$ has NOTHING to do with these drunken thugs. The black officers who were involved in this oughtta be ashamed! and Blacks in NYC really need to make noise! Black people are homeowners, workers, shoppers aka TAXPAYERS! when the lawsuits have to be paid WE BLACK TAXPAYERS have to kick in too while our schools and neighborhoods suffer. MY HEART HEARTS!!!! A guilty verdict would not have brought MRS Bell's husband back but ***... at least acknowledge you f.u.c.***.e.d up! My mom was a NYC transit cop for 7 years and later a City of Miami Police officer. My mother hates cops...said if I dated one I might as well date a drug dealer. My mother resigned from the force after a dude name "snake" got killed. He was the passenger on a motorcycle that the cops said tried to hit them .. so as the bike passed the cop, he turned and *** the passenger in the back. This cop was acquitted and later was involved in the miami river cop scandal and is now locked the fck up. Needless to say though, in MIA we burn *** down (not saying it is right) but ***, what do you do with all of the anger we are feeling right now. ...... once again, MY HEART HURTS!
