He's not a big star over there and has never sold a lot of records and would've never been able to sell out big concerts not even 4-5 years ago when he was at his best.

No, the Hip-Hop era isn't over. The economy is as bad in England as it is here and people are not going to fork over thousands of dollars for concert tickets any longer for these expensive artists. They make the bulk of their income while touring well, it's time to go to the drawing board and figure out a way to either decrease the price of tickets or not tour at all.

champ1 - In the past Jay Z has had sold out concerts in the big Uk arena's and has had extra bonus dates added.

jaybaby - I don't think you get the whole concept of Glastonbury... its a "rock" music festival where people from up and down the uk, and other countries go and camp in some place for like a couple of days (why, i do not no.) So merely just checking out the location to see who has heard of Jay Z isn't enough. The UK know about Jay-Z (including those that dont particularly listen to the hip hop genre, i just dont think it was a particuly good choice for this festival unless he was collaborating with Linkin Park (for example.)

Main reason tickets probably aren't selling is money, like others have said the UK is too expensive, prices are constantly rising. Things purchesed in terms of clothes, music e.t.c are almost double the price over here than in the states... i'm not sure about the cost of a concert tickets though. But if i was a US artist i'd be damanding a hell of a lot of pounds for a concert over here because the dollar is so week.

It was felt that with all these metal heads they would not appreciate rap , with their dirty a$$ grunge.
