: NEW YORK - (AP) Grammy-winning singer Natalie Cole has been diagnosed with hepatitis C, her publicist said in a statement Wednesday.
Hepatitis C is a liver disease spread through contact with infected blood. The statement said the disease was revealed during a routine examination and was likely caused by her drug use years ago.
"I've been so fortunate to have learned so much from my past experiences," said Cole. "I am embraced by the love and support of my family and friends; I am committed to my belief in myself and in my abiding faith to meet this challenge with a heartfelt optimism and determination. This is how I intend to deal with this current challenge in my life."
Her physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Dr. Graham Woolf, said Cole has had a "terrific response to her medication and is now virus negative."
"This gives her an increased chance of cure," he said. Woolf said Cole is recovering from side effects of the medicine she's taking, including fatigue, muscle aches and dehydration.
Cole, 58, the daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole, has sold millions of records over her long career. She is due to release "Still Unforgettable," the follow-up to 1991's Grammy-winning, multi-platinum CD "Unforgettable ... With Love," on which she remade some of her father's classics, in September.

Yeah it's because of her intravenious (or however it's spelled) drug use from many years ago that she contracted this disease.

My father is a prime example....he's been smokin' for over 50 years and now he has emphysema and lord knows what else.

As for Natalie Cole, I sincerely felt sorry for her at first. Then as I continued to read, it all sounded like a PUBLICITY STUN to me. If she’s having "terrific response to her medication and is now virus negative", she's obviously had it for a minute.
Why did she coincidently decide to bring all this to light when she has an album coming out in September?

No disrespect was taken. I don't mind discussing this topic. After reading ur comment I looked it up and found this quote. "There is no known cure for HPV. However, eventually the immune system does repress it by reducing it to a low level. At the point of natural suppression, it would be unlikely for a person to transmit the virus. Researchers don't know whether it is actually ever fully eliminated from the body, but at any rate it quits being contagious after a while."
So..as you can see. There is no evidence supporting whether or not it is ever eliminated. I just don't want to be giving out the wrong information.

That was so disrespectful of you to post that. Natalie was exactly right when she said the Grammy's *** praise Amy Wienhouse with multiple grammy's when she wasn't setting any kind of example. It happens all the time, stars miss out on awards for their behavior. Natalie was the perfect person to say that because she's been where Amy is. She was totally right. And I respected her for that.
My dad died of complications of Hepatitus C and the affects of severe alcoholism. She likely contracted it that way, but being a *** doesn't get you Hepatitus C, so I think that it very hurtful to say about her. Hepatitus C is not an STD. It is not in semen, it's in blood. If you are having really hardcore rough *** with someone who has it, like ***, maybe, but there is little evidence that shows somoene has contracted it this way. Although many people contract it through drug use, let's not be judgemental my brothers and sisters, there are lot of nurses and doctors who have contracted it from needle *** and others from blood transfustions. Never wish ill will among others and say "well what did you expect, she's a drug user, it makes you feel good to post that, but I wonder how many skeletons you have in your closet.
