Black doesn't only equate to African Americans. some Latinos have Black African ancestry due to slavery. The reason why my Afrikan Latinos speak Spanish has something to do with their slave masters or colonizers,( whatever makes you feel better), who spoke Spanish and of course the Afrikan slaves that lived in these Latino countries picked up on their slave masters language.

I'm Cuban and I live in Miami which is a city full of different races and people of different ethnic backgrounds and I decided to move to ft. myers florida which is only 2 hrs away 4rm Miami.... Soon as I get there the rednex are calling me the "***" word and my neighbor was a clan member. I was talking about how some black folks get mad when hispanics don't acknowledge being part black (for example Dominicans) but when some hispanics do they get mad. I don't know why you say that I don't want to be called black. I have called myself black and some black people get mad about it. I do know that I do have black blood, but I don't identify solely with being black because my family is very mixed like most Dominicans are. Does it make any sense for me to only call myself black knowing that I am not solely black? And how am I denying who I am by clearly saying that I am mixed including black?
I know that some hispanics are ignorant about their ancestors but I do also know that alot of hispanics know they are mixed as well as Dominicans. When I tell people I am Dominican I am assuming that they already know my background and know that all Dominicans are mixed it's not my duty to tell them that I have black blood, Spain, Italian, and Asian. It's not my duty to educate people and tell them about how my ancestors or w/e ended up in Dominican Republic, and if you think I am trying to deny who I am than so be it, it doesn't change the fact that I am mixed.

Now by her saying that it shows me that she has issues with her own skin color, but if she were to just say I am just attracted to white guys or I'm interested in other cultures or people who are the opposite of me, I wouldn't see it as discrimination.

Thank you for realizing that my statement about the manner in which a lot of Latinas are raised, based on their culture, was GENERAL, not specific. I think it's ridiculous that anyone wouldn't want their daughter to be educated, work or whatever, because we as women possess so much power. Why wouldn't we want to live up to our full potential and why wouldn't our loved ones want more for us? That's indentured servitude 2008.
As a man, if you TRULY love a woman, you should want the best for your woman and you should want your woman to achieve as much as she can in her lifetime. I know when I was living up north, when I heard anything about Florida it was just about how much of a vacation spot it was. Now that I'm in the south and travel to Florida frequently, I see it's a spanish person's paradise. Orlando is a nice size city. About 2 million people I beleive.

you see marriages between white men and black women were tolerable during slavery...because they were few and non-threating to the white supremacy regime. But, after slavery, this behavior was no longer deemed acceptable. In fact, in some places (kentucky) a white man would be declared insane if he married his slave. It became no longer socially acceptable for a white man to have black mistress. In large cites, "white massa" lust for black female *** objects led to the formation of numerous house of prostititions that supplied black women to growing demands of white men.
There is a complex social dynamic involved in all of this. While White males wth black women were often viewed as taboo, it was not as severe when black men married white woman. why?
Because in a white dominted patriarchal society, white women were the properties of white man. If a white woman marries a black man, she would adopt the black man status, and their kids would adopt his last names. Since black men didn't own much wealth, the offsprings from such unions would not threaten the societis status quo.
Now, if white men were to marry black women, she would adopt his status and her mulatto kids would adopt his last name and wealth. This would change the balance of power from the white supremacist.
So, for many long time, the marriage between a white male and black females were not recognized and deemed unlawful...thus the reason I use illegitimate ***.

I get exactly what you are saying. I hate when obvioulsy Black Latinos try to deny their African heritage. My dad is Honnduran and of Mayan and African descent. When he was younger he had that "deny my blackness" mentality because alot of his countrymen back there had that brainwashing attitude, but that was before he came to America as a teen and then educated himself. He knows now and does not deny it.
My mom is PR but she is actually the "whiter" type, but she too knows as well exactly what she's made of. *** alot of Puerto Ricans are so ignorant they dont even recognize that they are Taino Indian descendants and think they are just Spainiard and African descended. Yeah anyone can attend Boriqua college. It started out more as a community college aimed at helping out Puerto Ricans and any minority who couldnt really afford college, or didnt have enough credits to attend college or had to work so they catered to *** courses and lower income students. But the one in BK like 15 blocks from me alwasy had a very diverse Black/Latino student campus and Im old-lol I remember as far back as 84-85 all the Marcy/Sumner/Bushwick and Willy B heads would go there if needed.
