Mayweather turned down $8 million to fight Margarito not because he was scared of him but because he instead took a better deal to fight Baldomir.
The deal to fight Baldomir included $8 million plus percentage of TV revenue and gate revenue, plus, Baldomir had all the belts...Sweeter pot.
After Mayweather defeated Baldomir, he went on to fight a bigger crowd drawer than Margarito, DeLaHoya. He wisely chose DeLaHoya over Margarito because Margarito was pretty much a nobody and had recently lost to Paul Williams.
Margarito just RECENTLY made a major mark in boxing by defeating Cotto.
So no, Mayweather has never been afraid to fight Margarito. He's just a smart business man.

I watched that Margarito/Williams fight....Margarito started slow and gave up too many rounds in the beginning....Now I like Paul and think he's going to be a great one...But Margarito took it to his *** in the last 4 and a half rounds of that fight...Paul just had enough to pull out the 115-113 decision...
Margarito isn't a great fighter but he's like Chavez in his prime in that he can take all kinds of punishment and keep coming...Floyd would have to keep on his toes for 12.
I agree that the criticism of Floyd is unfair, but its on Floyd to bring his *** and silence them...He killed that Ricky Hatton talk...Now with Cotto already exposed he needs to take out Margarito and silence it once and for all. Now that Margarito is being hyped and the PPV loot would be there, he has no excuse.
