The same thing happened to Serena Williams...Someone spread rumors that she was trashing black men when she was with Bret Ratner, It gets spread on Urban Radio shows and before you know it, for years, everyone thought Serena hated black men and thought she felt she had to get a white man. Race often plays a factor, when you see whites with similar crimes go unpunished. There were other white celebrities, whose names i cannot recall.I'm quite sure Wesley sees and feels the injustice. The Asian model and restaurateur he introduces as “my lady, Donna [Wong]” has been Snipes’ companion for the past year and a half When asked if he dates Black women, he says: “Primarily all of my life I’ve dated Black women…. Oh, most definitely. Oh, my God. Mostly. But it just so happens that now I’m dating an Asian woman. It’s different. Different energy, different spirit, but a nice person.” He says he is not ready for marriage; nor is Donna. “She’s got to learn to deal with the love scenes in the movies first,” says Snipes as he chuckles. “Got to get to a place where it’s very comfortable.”
Wesley says he realizes that there are Black women still who get an attitude about Black men with Asian, White or Hispanic women. “I know we’ve all been hurt, and we’re all very wounded,” he says, addressing Black women. “We have to acknowledge that, both male and female, in the Black experience. We’re a wounded people. And we want to possess and we want to own. We don’t want to compromise. We feel like we’ve compromised enough. But in any relationship you have to compromise. There’s no way around it. And I say to Black women also, Brothers who are very, very successful, or who have become somewhat successful, usually it’s been at a great expense, unseen by the camera’s eye….
“He doesn’t want to come home to someone who’s going to be mean and aggravating and unkind and who is going to be `please me, please me.’ He doesn’t want to come home to that. He doesn’t want to come home to have a fight with someone who is supposed to be his helpmate. So it’s very natural that he’s going to turn to some place that’s more compassionate…. You’ve worked hard and you deserve to come home to comforting. And usually a man who has that will appreciate it. Because I’ve never known one cat, all those cats I’ve hung out with and still hang out with, who found something that they really, really like and didn’t go back to it. They all go back. It’s very simple.”
When asked for clarification, Snipes emphasizes that he is not saying that a Black woman can not be that type of woman a man wants to come home to. “Not at all,” he declares. “Absolutely not. That’s the point. I want to come home and I don’t want to argue. I want to be pleasing, but if I ask you to get me a glass of water, you’re going to say, `Them days is over.’ please. Come on,” Wesley says. “A man likes that. I don’t know why. It’s been that way forever. It makes him proud, you know, like when the guys come over and your lady comes out with a tray of food and says `I made this up for you.’ And the guys are like, `Oh man, you’ve got a great woman.’ And the man says, `Yeah, I do.’ A man will appreciate it when you’re kind and when you’re nice.
“For successful women, it’s hard,” he continues, obviously quite comfortable and articulate on the subject of relationships. “The competition is fierce. And if he’s a man of success and power who happens to be handsome, of course you’re not the only one who thinks he’s handsome. But you don’t have to punish him because of that once you get with him. Don’t punish him because somebody else likes him.”
Continuing with his openness, Snipes says he’s had his heart broken more than once, and at times by Black women. “Most definitely. Most definitely,” he says.
So perhaps we can just put this rumor to rest, once and for all. No one’s saying that Snipes’ claims weren’t problematic or that, no matter what he meant, what he said had the potential to (and did) offend. It’s just that nowhere in this article did he say that he hates Black women. He also never said that he’d never date Black women again (or that other Black men should follow suit). So maybe we could all just cool out on the histrionics, okay?
Entertainment Weekly’s article references Snipes’ current wife, Nakyung “Nikki” Park. She’s Asian. No big. Personal preference, right? Even so, I thought the sight of her might dredge up old feelings (and rumors)–and really, with the kind of problems this man has, rolling down that road once more will benefit no one.
You know what else won’t benefit anyone? Snipes claims that “systematic racism” is to blame for his Hollywood ***-out. And for his tax problems. We’re not saying that an all-white jury seating shouldn’t rankle a brother. But wouldn’t it have made more sense to cross your Ts and dot your Is in the first place? Isn’t it a bit more difficult for The Man to get at you for tax evasion when you’re not looking for ludicrously high tax breaks and refusing to pay at all for multi-year blocks?

I am of African/Asian race Tanzania and Singapore hold my heritage. I find what my mother told me growing up about this country was over exaggerated "progress". I found Black America particularly interesting because spent many years in both Africa and America.

Sisters, we all know that there are black men in this country who just don't like black women. Some of them have personal reasons, and some of them buy into the media stereotypes that demean and degrade us.

He did mean to degrade sisters; he should have said that the sisters he has dealt with were combative and had a princess complex, but he didn't say that. The implication was directed at us all, and then he backtracked. I guess Halle had too much mouth for him too.
This man has a problem with successful women. He prefers his women to be docile and agreeable (smiling whether they are happy or not) instead of a woman who has her own mind and expresses her own emotion. He wants an indentured servant in his wife. One who is thankful that he brings home the bacon and one who will bring him his slippers and a newspaper at the end of a hard day. He doesn't want a woman who has her own issues after a hard day of work and may want the slippers brought to her.
I have spent a total of 5 years in Southeast/Southwest Asia; let me tell you, those women have it on lock when it comes to serving their men. They are raised that way and really, some of them don't have a choice. They are raised to look for a good husband who will provide for them and give them security. They are taught to make the man feel needed and respected, even when he ain't ***.
Asian men are some of the most misogynistic and abusive men on the planet. They too want what they want when they want it. These women are taught to turn the other cheek, to look the other way when their man does something wrong, not "go off" like we do.
This is what I have seen, up close and personal. I have lived with them in their own country, so for those of you who are going to try to give me the American perspective, spare me.
And to the brother that said Asian women love black men; you are right. They do love black men. Brothers are the easiest marks going, worldwide. Especially African Americans. If given a chance, some Asian women will opt out for white men first. Asians hate their own features more than blacks, believe it or not. Having a white man is the best you can get in some parts of Asia.
And let me tell you about Korea; I have never been approached so much by strange men as in Korea. I had a man offer his son to me on a train; his logic was that with my thick thighs and hips, I should be able to bear his son healthy sons.... I literally laughed for 2 hours on that train ride. Mr. Park was hilarious. They love mixed black kids in South Korea, at least from what I saw.
Now the same did not apply in Japan; the Japanese seemed a little aloof, not just to blacks but to all of us in my travel group. They seemed to not like westerners; period. LOL!!! I can't blame them though. I don't like all westerners either. LOL!!
Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to go to China during that trip (2003 during the SARS scare), but I will try to go during this trip to Europe.
Sometimes I hate to post my thoughts because it does seem like I am STEREOTYPING a whole race, but I know what I have seen. I know of the billions of Asians in the world, I have only seen a minuscule fraction of a fraction of their population, but that is how we all judge each other, right?

Great post...as always, but I must disagree just a tadbit. There was no reason to "read between the lines". He flat stated sisters were a certain way. To use, "read between the lines" would gives unnecessary ammo to some of these transgendered "brothas" on here. They can easily come on and say we go "looking for stuff" and subsequently "make up what's not there." He flat attritubed certain negative qualities to a certain group then backtracked.
There IS no reason...especially, when you're in an Interracial relationship to label some people some way and others another way. It's brings about the thought that you're with "others" because they're OPPOSITE of what you've JUST referenced. There is no reason, if you're comfortable, and not "BASHING" to HIGHLIGHT certain perceived NEGATIVE characteristics in certain groups.
Even if he prefaced it with, "women I've dealt", I wouldn't have liked that because once again, even in prefacing it that way, it still points to a certain preceived attitude he associated with black women. If we're talking amongst ourselves, and you share with me your experience, I'm willing to take that into consideration. If you go on a national platform and deem certain group of women a certain (NEGATIVE) way, even stated in the "nicest" fashion, you're DISSING them. A nice diss is an oxymoron.

I understand your point of view entirely. I am an island girl too (St. Croix, USVI) and my family is from Antigua.
It is sometimes hard for us islanders to relate to African Americans because we were raised differently. I am so proud of my heritage, it oozes from my pores. Yet when I came here, I was chastised by black people for having nappy hair and dark skin (black men mainly). I was amazed. I was called a nerd for excelling in school and I was told that I wanted to be white because I spoke "proper english."
I understand now that our culture clashes with that of African Americans are not because we are better, but because our people had to embrace their blackness early or die out (not all of us, but most of us). On an island, you literally have nowhere to run. LOL!!

Very interesting insight on your travels in the east. I have also gotten that impression that some Asian men (certainly not all) have a very poor impression of their women as well. I saw a *** re Japan where the women were actually being sexually harrassed (in the open) on trains, in public and where ever.
