Yeah, this was sad. MTO, you're wrong though. It wasn't the officer who actually tasered the man that killed himself, it was the officer who ORDERED the tasering. While it's all sad, I'm not really that upset about the suicide, especially since he chose to do it on the day of the tasered man's funeral...how you gone try and still have the last word even in death!!

He messed up big time, but suicide was not the answer. Tasering is supposed to be non lethal but it was a dumb thing to do. If he was poking that light at the LAPD he probably would have got ***!

This story is so sad all the way around. I mean was there no other way to get that poor man off the ledge? He was completely nude so he had no weapon on him, therefore he was no threat to anyone else. Why couldn't they have waited until the fire department got there and brought a ladder? It's making me really sad how horrible people are treating each other nowadays. Like that story in LA where the hospital ambulance dumped a paraplegic homeless man in the street without his wheelchair and the poor guy was crawling down the street on his elbows while the ambulance driver was in the van doing her makeup. Why are these cops so anxious to kill, *** and taser people. It's like they wake up with a need to hurt not protect. This was a situation that should've been handled MUCH differently, and you don't need police training to see that. All you need is common sense. Tasers should be used only when the situation warrants this. And the part that is so sad is they know when you taser someone, they ALWAYS fall & if he was already on the ledge where in the hell did they think he was going to fall. ALL of the cops who were present should be harshly disciplined. The reason that cop took his life, he knew he was wrong for what he did. That is not the way you handle mentall ill people and law enforcement knows this. This is awful. I teared up for this man. May his soul rest in peace but for all those who were there, I hope they are haunted by his memory forever until the make peace with Christ. Because this was SO unnecessary. They should have called for backup or had something to catch him when he fell..***..

Those that are cops CHOSE their professions. If youare not capable of maintaining your composure in pressured situations or can not make split second decisions then they have chosen the wrong profession.
So I understand they have a heck of a task before them everyday...but that is the life they chose. A lot of police do just sit in there cars and turn the other cheek USUALLY at a time that they could save someones life...real victims...so if you were being robbed at gunpoint or raped...would you want the police to try to DEFUSE the situation so that the perp doesn't make a sudden move that could END YOUR LIFE...or do you just want them to jump out gung ho DROP YOUR WEAPON and start *** and you get caught inthe cross fire or the perp has time to blow your azz off?
Im just saying...just like those that sign up for the armed forces should not be surprised when they are asked to go to war...the police should be ready MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY at all times for EVERY TYPE OF SITUATION.

Not quite accurate ... the LIEUTENANT that gave the order to Taser the man killed himself ... NOT the actual officer. Regardless, this IS the kind of no value for human life that exists within the police force. If the mentally ill man had been Black someone would play the race card, however, the NYC police (as well as others) have become such an antagonistic presence within the community that they no longer value anyone's life except other police officers. This did not have to happen. The man was clearly mentally ill and according to the press, the inflatable fall-bag had been requested; it had not arrived yet. THe Lieutenant gave the order to Taser too soon. The police violated policy when they Tasered someone at risk for falling. Emergency Service Unit Lt. Michael Pigott wrote (in his suiced note)that he put a *** into his head over fears that his three children would see him in handcuffs or behind bars, the sources said. The note asked authorities not to blame the officer who fired the Taser. "Pigott - a real cop's cop - wrote that it was his judgment to use the Taser," a police source said. "He said it was his fault." A sad story all around.
Ok, now I don't feel sorry for this coward. This officer had a wife and young children. He was afraid that he would loose his job and be indicted. He killed himself because he did not want to man up and deal with the consequences and of his actions and the punishment that he may have recieved, not because he was so distraught over this man dying. So instead of paying the price, he kills himself leaving his children without a father and his wife to struggle to raise their children alone. PATHETIC!! I feel sorry for the woman who lost her son and the wife and children of this coward *** policeman.

It really sickens me to read all the negative comments about Police concerning this incident. NONE of US were there, and know the whole story. The Police usually have half or none of the story when they arrive on a scene. We don't know what if anything that guy had done before the Police arrived. What was the Police told? Why was he holding the pole? Was it a weapon? MTO, why would the fire department get involved? The fire department REFUSES to deal with combative/dangerous people. They call in the Police. It's easy to second guess AFTER a incident happens. The Officer was so distressed that he killed himself after this happened. He obviously had no intention of harming anyone. Before you attack the Police, put that uniform on and try to Police our communities. You might learn more about us that you are prepared to see. This is a tragedy for all involved.
