: WASHINGTON (AP) — Janet Jackson took the stage to exploding fireworks, clouds of smoke and the sounds of some early hits Wednesday in her first concert since she was sidelined for two weeks by a bout of vertigo.
Sporting a huge mohawk and light-colored body suit, the Grammy-winning performer opened with "Pleasure Principle," followed by "What Have You Done for Me Lately" from her 1986 album "Control." Soon after, she sang her latest single, "Feedback."
"It feels so good to be back after being down just a little bit," Jackson told the crowd at the less-than-full Verizon Center.
The two-hour, high-energy show went smoothly, but Jackson did appear winded at times. At one point, she paused to admire her backup dancers, and the audience roared with approval.
"She was perfect. If she was sick, she's not sick anymore," said Maurice Bell, 28, of Washington. "She can still do it at 42."
At the end of the show, a teary-eyed Jackson told the crowd: "I love you D.C. so much."
Jackson's publicist said Wednesday she has been suffering from migraine-associated vertigo, which led to her canceling a string of shows. She is being treated for the illness, which is characterized by dizziness, imbalance and other symptoms.
"She's a world-class entertainer and needs to be at the top of her game to give her fans the show they expect," Jackson's manager, Kenneth Crear, said in a release. "She's feeling much better and is ready to hit the road again to finish the tour."
Crear said Jackson is feeling better and ready to continue her first North American tour in seven years. Upcoming stops include Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, New York and East Rutherford, N.J.
Hollywouldnt, I am in agreement with you. Janet killed that show last ***. She was excellent and the show was flawless...dance steps, vocals, music...everything was on point. I bet more than half the people with something negative to say has never seen her perform live...
And you are right, the place was packed. I know she felt good to see all those people come out to support her.
I am not a fan but I do have respect for her as an artist.
i don;t know why everone is giving Janet such a hard time. it's not that people are not feeling her because we are. the thing is the economy is bad what would you do go see Janet or pay your rent and privide for your family. see Janet or try to save as much as you can becasue you don't know if your job is secure or not? Janet and a lot of these stars need to cut down ont he ticket prices that may help or get a smaller venue that'll defintely help. i don;t think Jnaet's career is over becuase she's nt selling a million gazillion the first week we are in the age of technology people are burning CD's like they have a right to profit off someone else's hard work. that's the problem

*** the fake azz *** looks fat.....*** this 80's has been.....she cant sing dance or move her fat azz around stage...saw this pathetic show, and i thank god i didnt pay for those tickets...it was given to me and can understand why they were given up...the show stank like "Jesus Juice" Who would have thought Latoya is the sane one in that *** family!

Janet did a superb job last ***!! I was impressed with the fact that she opened the show, by herself and pounded out four hits before the dancers took the stage. THIS tour is not like any of her previous!! She sings more and is more interactive with the audience. The stage is different and the extending wrap-around cat walk was a nice touch. When she says this tour is for the true Janet fans, she is not lying because Janet sang hits from her two, pre-control albums as well. Check it out if you can!!
Baxby seems to be the only one who actually have some truths in his/her post. I also attended a show, which by the way was sold out in Los Angeles and she did do songs from her pre-control albums and the true janet fans ate it up. Yall can say what you want but unless you went and saw the show..you basically just don't know

The washington post review was horrible and it was obvious that guy is one of the many haters of Ms Jackson.. the Washington Blade IS a totally different and more truthful review! But of course the bad reviews are what the media will pick up on first, like MTO! ITS SAD ALL THE DISRESPECT SHE GETTING!
