I have a sister who is 22 years my junior. When my mother was in her 5th month of the pregnancy, her ob/gyn told her the sonogram showed abnormalities and suggested termination. An amniocentesis was done and that procedure in itself is risky because you are taking a needle and probing into the uterus to collect amniotic fluid and it can cause a miscarriage. It is blessing my sister is hear nearly 9 years later as happy and as healthy as a child could ever be.
I can be long winded but I say all that to say, the later in life you wait, the greater the risk and any reputable ob/gyn will tell you the being over the age of 35 automatically puts you at a greater risk of spontaneous abortion, mental of physical birth defects.
