: BOSTON (AP) — Paul Benedict, the actor who played the English neighbor Harry Bentley on the sitcom "The Jeffersons," has died. He was 70.

Benedict was found dead Monday on Martha's Vineyard and his brother, Charles, said authorities were still investigating the cause of death.

Benedict began his acting career in the 1960s in the Theatre Company of Boston, alongside such future stars as Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino.

Benedict went on to appear in a number of movies, including a role as the oddball director in "The Goodbye Girl" with Richard Dreyfuss. But he was mainly known for his role as Bentley in "The Jeffersons," which ran on CBS from 1975 to '85.

The 2nd Lionel died. ********GOOGLE Afro American Syndicate******** Mike Evans of TV's The Jefferson's Dead Mike Evans Dec 14, 2006 - Mike Evans, 57, an actor best known for his role as Lionel Jefferson in the TV sitcoms "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons," died of throat cancer Dec. 14 at his mother's home in Twentynine Palms, his niece Dr. Chrystal Evans said.

lowerlevel82

well he was pretty old

disconnexionsdotcom

Actually the FIRST Lionel died. He was the one that was lighter and had an afro. Mike Evans played him for the first couple of seasons and then was replaced.

I'm old enough to remember that Mr Bentley had a role on Sesame Street as the guy who walked around painting letters and numbers on the wall.

The first Lionel, Mike Evans, wasn't replaced. He quit his role on the Jeffersons to concentrate on his new show, Good Times. Then he eventually returned. But, yes, he's dead.

Oh yea...forgot that Mike Evans died. Damon Evans is the 2nd Lionel lives in Bmore. What's amazing is that George's mom was well in her 80's on the show and still acting.

Wow George is only 70? Florence is now 77. Tom died in '06 at 78. Helen (Lenny Kravitz mom) died of breast cancer in 1995 at 66. And of course Louise died in '04 at 87 y/o which I still can't believe. She was 20 years older than George!!

At 70, he was young. I didn't realize just how old the actors were on that show. They dying off and now there are about 2-3 originals left.

focus

@wakeupblackpeople: Esther Rolle was 19-20 yrs older than John Amos too. Those black folks could play those age roles.
