: KINGSTON (Reuters) – The dancer and choreographer who created the dance used by Jamaica sprinter Usain Bolt to celebrate his victories at the Beijing Olympics was shot to death at a Kingston nightclub on Friday, police said.
David Alexander Smith, known in entertainment circles as "Ice," was shot in the head and chest during an argument with two men. They then took his keys and fled in his car, police said.
Smith created the "Gully Creeper" that Bolt danced each time he won a race at the Olympics last August.
Bolt set world records in the 100 meters and 200 meters and was a member of the Jamaican quartet that won gold in the 4-by-100 meter relay.
Jamaica has one of the world's highest per-capita murder rate. More than 1,500 people have been murdered in the Caribbean island this year.

I'm really saddened by the loss of such a talented individual my condolences goes out to the family. I am however not surprised that jamaica has the highest murder rate in the world they should be ashamed but the government is corrupted and they are the ones who are arming these young men with the guns for their own selfish political career. Not to mention the people in the country are also protecting these gun men and are intimidated by them. What can we do just hope that the british government takes back controll of the island and maybe then the jamaicans will wake up and see what the rest of the world is seeing that they are insane and killing their future. Why call them idiots and the most backwards people in the world??...like...that is such a broad and doltish word to use to define them! backwards in terms of what? technology? crime? what? well...obviously..it can't be technology or eduction... because we americans already know that the educated public of Jamaica are usually very smart and tend to excel greater than most americans in their age group or in their school year in the US...both black and white... and if u don't believe and before u start showing just how intellectually impaired u are..just GOOGLE articles about it online..and u will see exactly what i'm talking about.
I should know..because Duke is a fine example of that. Most of the kids here that are from Jamaica are usually at the top of our classes because what we do in like the first 2 years of college, they already did in high school..from they were 16 or so... on top of that...we did some research on them when we were looking at third world countries... and we learned that there aren't many jobs or opportunities there ..which has been instilled in their minds from a very tender age... so they naturally have that "competitiveness" and yearning to achieve above expectations while growing up
that is why their island based university is getting so popular and gaining a lot more worldwide recognition...because their educational system is more advanced and successful than others...that's why we tend to find so much of them living and working in the US in major businesses and companies.

There"s a lot of comments being made regarding the death of this guy and the crime wave that has been sweeping jamaica. My intent here is to let my voices be heard to the people (politicians, lawyers, educators etc) that this kind of uncivilized killing of each other cannot go on forever.Jamaica is a beautiful county and of course possess some most intelligent and educated people in the world. That's a known fact so there's no need for debate on that topic However, we need to protect our youth who keeps falling to these diseases,,,GUNS, PRISON and Homosexuality and AIDS. Jamaicans are not backward thinking people, we might not be as technologically advanced as other countries or rich even, but we try our best. We are a proud people and we always excel, i don't need to prove that we are intellectual u can use the internet, I'm sure.
But before you put us on blast, remember crime is everywhere, atleast i don't have to worry about my airports or planes being bombed, or my schools being shot up my crazy students, we are not racists despite our African history.
