: Could Jay Z be facing some financial pressure? MediaTakeOut.com got a hold of some information that suggests he may not be as financially set as many seem to believe.
You see last year, Jay-Z invested in a real estate development venture called J Hotels which acquired a $66 million mid-block parcel in New York and set out to build a high-end hotel.
But MediaTakeOut.com just learned that the project has stalled – and its future is uncertain. One of Jay-Z's partners, Charles Blaichman, recently revealed to The New York Times that they have been seeking up to $370 million from various banks to begin construction but have had no luck. He said, "A year ago it would have seemed a reasonable amount. Not now … Even the banks who want to give us money can't."
And there’s more. MediaTakeOut.com spoke with one highly influential entertainment insider who questioned whether Jay Z’s financial situation is as strong as is being reported on many of the FORBES lists.
The insider, who spoke to MediaTakeOut.com on the condition of anonymity, explained, “Jay Z and Damon Dash owned everything 50-50 – Rocawear, Rocafella, everything … when they separated, everything was split in half. Now 3 years later Dame is broke and Jay Z’s worth 500 million, that just doesn’t make sense.”
And the insider continues, telling MediaTakeOut.com, “What businesses has Jay Z been involved in since – restaurants, real estate, and music. Those are probably the three worst business to be in right now … I’m not saying that Jay Z’s broke, but I can tell you one thing – he has nowhere near the amount of money that those magazines are saying he does."

The way banks make their money has been severely hit by the recession, and contrary to your story, banking and investments are the worst industries to be in right now.

the insider isn't credible because if the insider knew anything, he/she would know that there were 3 partners in roc-a-fella, not just dame and jay, there was kareem "biggs" burke, so there was no 50/50 split. when the roc broke up, they split things 3 ways, but when jay took the job at def jam, he got $10mil from def jam and got rocafella back. then he sold his share in the clothing line for $200mil+ and like $30-$50mil in stock and dame only got $25-$30mil off the deal. many of dame's ventures didn't do well while jay made some better investments - nets, 40/40 club, roc-nation, and whatever else he's got his hands in. so his value is based on the stake he has in roc-a-wear and what he got from the sale plus record sales, and other revenues. so i can't question what forbes says he's worth, if anything, it might be more because forbes often doesn't have the all the person's financial info. so *** insider

The media always hype certain images (rappers image to black folk) to give us an illusion that these folks got all this *** money and that their life is without struggle. While they got alot of money all isn't as it seems. Most of their homes, vacations, yatches, cars are on CREDIT meaning they got to keep that paper coming in. FORBES only list these stars EARNINGS not what they actually take home.
Why would you be seeking a loan in this economy? In order for you to get any work done you will have to invest your own money. If your not willing to invest your funds, then sit and wait like everyone else.

Dame and Jay owned the majority share of everything. Biggs had shares. Jay;s salary was 10 million foe def jam, but there where conditions to the deal. He ran their label into the ground. They did not pay him the whole 10 million. He had to pay for the losses they took on his poor promotion spending. The reality if you are not playing with big money do not try to understand it. 40/40 is about bankrupt. He has a class action lawsuit against him. His vegas venture went belly up and he has to pay all those hard money investors off the top. They wont invest in his ventures anymore, that's why he has to go to a bank. And in this financial mess, if you don't look 100% on paper, banks are not giving you nothing. It takes billions of dollars to get those types of businesses off the ground. Forbes uses last years numbers and financial information from personal accountants. They are not checking tax records or land records to see what is really up.

People don't understand that rich people are really 'cash poor.' It's their assets that give them financial leverage. Accounting should be required in primary school. There's no point in taking years of math, yet not knowing what to do with money. We wouldn't be having this economic crisis now.
The banks don't want to loan money because they are trying to clean up their books and build up their reserves. They have no desire in loaning anyone anything after the taxpayers bailed them out for that purpose. They are still laying off folks and still foreclosing on homes, no one can require them to tell us what they are doing with what WE gave them.
He's not broke. But he more than likely doesnt have anything CLOSE to 500 mill in his pocket. Forbes counts "liquidity," and liquidity from the last FISCAL year at that. (Fiscal Years and Calendar Years are two differnt things.) Jay has homes, yachts, and other investments that attribute to his "worth." However- that may not speak to his money in his pockets. His homes, cars, yachts, investments, stakes, and his paychecks make him WORTH 500 mill, he may only have less than half of that "on-hand" in cold, hard cash. Read up on some investment information people and stop believeing everything you hear.

Now if "J hotels" is being named after him, i would venture to say that he probably has a substantial investment in this hotel!(40-50% or greater) Hopefully he can pull out, because right now his money is tied up in a parcel of land..that will not turn into any profit anytime soon., unless the banks get off their soap dish.

All of this is brainless speculation. First of all, only Jay-Z and his accountant truly know his worth and the value of his assets. Secondly, Damon Dash isn't an artist and hasn't released any platinum-selling albums. Jay-Z continued to release albums after the 50-50 split, therefore, he would be better-off financially. Thirdly, it's hard for anyone to get a loan with the whole mess on Wallstreet and in the credit industry overall. The market is so shakey overall that many lending factions are scrutinizing every possible deal more than ever before.
I hope everyone reading the gossip has a realistic mindset that all reported isn't true.It's all in entertainment, I understand, but why speculate if it's not affecting your own well-being?

There was this story that was posted in the LA Times:
For a man who spent 19 years locked up for a murder he says he didn't commit, DeWayne McKinney emerged from prison a man at peace.
He wasn't angry or bitter. On weekends, he spoke at churches about the faith that carried him through those lost years. He appeared at anti-death penalty conferences and told his story.
And when some money came his way from a legal settlement, he turned it into a multimillion-dollar business in the Hawaiian Islands, where he lived in an oceanfront home and could fall asleep listening to the crashing surf. Movie studio executives were interested in turning his life story into a feature film.
But McKinney's remarkable story came to an end early Tuesday.
The 47-year-old McKinney crashed the scooter he was riding into a wooden light pole in Honolulu about 12:30 a.m. and was thrown onto the pavement, said Caroline Sluyter, a spokeswoman for the Honolulu Police Department.
McKinney, who was not wearing a helmet, died at a local hospital.
"He had a really beautiful soul. He really did," said Denise Gragg, an assistant public defender who successfully obtained McKinney's release from prison. "The most amazing thing about him was the lack of anger he had when he came out. . . . He really was one of the best people I've ever known."
McKinney made national news in 2000 after then-Orange County Dist. Atty. Tony Rackauckas obtained his release from prison, saying he had been wrongly convicted of a 1980 robbery-murder at a Burger King in Orange.
Prosecutors originally had sought the death penalty for McKinney, but he was sentenced to life in prison without parole after jurors deadlocked in the penalty portion of his trial.
McKinney, who was a member of a Los Angeles street gang, was arrested in December 1980 and charged with the killing of Walter Horace Bell, 19, during a holdup at the fast-food restaurant.
Restaurant employees had picked out his mug *** and said he looked like the killer. Nearly two decades later, however, another suspect emerged and Rackauckas agreed to help secure McKinney's release, even though the other suspect was never charged.
When McKinney was freed in January 2000, he was forced to start his life from scratch. He didn't have a driver's license, Social Security number, savings account or a place to live.
Initially, he settled in Orange County, working at UC Irvine as an audio-visual technician and living for free in an apartment funded by a local businesswoman.
On weekends, McKinney spoke to church groups about how his faith carried him through some difficult times in prison. He said he wasn't angry at the system that put him away.
"Understanding what you truly lost, it makes you embrace what you have," McKinney said during a 2002 interview. "I'm who I am today because of those 20 years."
Many people who came to know McKinney in the years after his release said they were inspired by the way he handled things.
McKinney eventually met the judge who sentenced him to prison and accepted a hug -- and an apology. He shook the hand of the prosecutor who convicted him -- Rackauckas -- and even endorsed his reelection campaign.
"He never complained about what he didn't have. He was always focused on what he did have. He had life. He had liberty," said Nancy Clark, the businesswoman who gave him an apartment to live in after his release. "I remember seeing him riding down the street on a bicycle, talking on a cellphone and thinking, 'Isn't this amazing?' "
McKinney rubbed elbows with Hollywood celebrities and traveled to New York and Europe, visiting places that a few years earlier he read about in magazines at the prison library.
In 2002, McKinney pocketed $1 million in a legal settlement with the Orange Police Department and started looking for ways to invest it. At a prayer meeting, he heard someone explain that individuals could now buy ATMs and keep convenience fees as profit.
He installed the machines at bars, restaurants and shopping malls throughout the Hawaiian Islands, taking a profit each time a tourist or thirsty bar patron withdrew money. In turn, he paid a cut to the business owners who gave him a place to install the machines.
"To spend 19 years in prison and get out and do what he did, it was amazing," said Carl Stein, a business partner and friend. "He had this way with people. They just couldn't say no to him."
Jeffrey Rawitz, a Los Angeles attorney who represented McKinney in the years after his release, said he got the news of his death Tuesday morning.
"He really appreciated life in a way that most people can't because of all the time he lost," Rawitz said. "He laughed easily. He made friends easily and he appreciated every day he lived."
In recent years, McKinney had struggled with alcohol, Stein said. He divorced and was forced to divide his ATMs with his former wife. His struggles were not surprising considering the years he spent in California's toughest prisons.
Twice he was stabbed in prison. At times, he strapped magazines around his torso to defend himself against attacks while he slept.
He tried to block out the reality by reading western novels by Louis L'Amour, which he collected in swaps with other inmates.
Within two days of his release, McKinney was summoned to the front of a crowded Lancaster church hall.
He held a microphone and spoke softly about a jailhouse conversion to Christianity and the faith that sustained him.
"I was placed in an unspeakable situation for something I didn't do," he began. "Two years ago, I met God. I realized there's nothing he can't do as long as we believe. If I trust in him, he can take me anywhere."
During a 2004 interview in Hawaii, McKinney said he was much happier in Hawaii than he was in Southern California.
"I finally found my place," he said. "I enjoy being able to breathe the fresh air, feel the wind on my face and know I'm free."

First, Of course he can't get a loan. It has nothing to do with his financials. It is about the risk the banks would have to take to lend him the money and just like with regular home mortgages, many banks are not going to take a grave risk. He could probably finance the deal himself, but no one with business savvy is going to fork up 370 million of their own money in this market. It wouldn't be a logical nor sensible decision.
