: MediaTakeOut.com got some unfortunate news. Apparently one of Flavor Flav’s children is very upset with their father. It turns out that Flav is refusing to pay for that child’s college education, and they need the money in order to graduate this May.
Here’s what Flav’s kid told MediaTakeOut.com:
I have just had my last conversation with my father because he has taken his final step in ruining my life. He has refused to not pay my final semesters tuition [of] $3,400 because he declared that he does not have it. This would have been my last semester at this college and I am expected to graduate in May … I explained that to him 24 hours ago [and] he agreed to pay it.DANG Flav … you know you got $3,400 for your child. It don’t seem worth causing all this drama …[Then] he called me about 20 minutes ago [to tell] me that he does not have it. And then [he] tells me that he simply will not take the effort to get the money because he owes us nothing. He [even gad] the nerve to say in tonight’s conversation "if anything you guys owe me, I owe you nothing." He then told me outright "I have nothing for you at all, but I do have love and my phone is always on for you guys."
He sees us approx. 1 week out of a year and when I brought that out to him last night, his response was "so ..... I live on the west coast now this is my new life." He doesn’t even call to let us know he's in town.
This (child) is probably 21 years old. ADULT-GROWN UP!!! Start taking responsibility for yourself. You still have plenty of time to get the money up. The whole family can pitch in.It is amazing how much money you can stack up when you cut back on entertainment, buy the cheaper brands of products and really put forth every effort to achieve your goal. (graduation)You can still take all your classes, do well in them and pay off the tuition by May. MAke all the sacrifices necessary to get your degree and better yourself, after all it is for YOU. You don't need daddy to come to the rescue, besides you tell him you got 1,000 on it he may just help out.
Stop it- he's not wrong, he's supported them to young adult hood and now it's time for the bird to leave the nest. I'm sure they're set financially so they better get out there and make something of themselves. Kids start hollaring "I'm grown" at 18, parents are no longer needed...right? LOL!
I'm refusing to pay for my son's college education-2 colleges for 2 years for 2 kids to flunk out...that's the line. I gave my sons all the tools they needed to be able to function independently of me. I was pregnant with twins, single and a full time student and had a full time job. They can do it. If they need help I assist, but I can't do it all for them. They live and experience hardships that make them stronger.
PLEASE...my ex bought a house and proposed to my sons; "if you get back in school you can stay here." They worked hard and got back into school and called to find out when they could move in because classes started Monday. Father calls Sunday *** to renege on the agreement citing he's got no full-time job and he doesn't think they're responsible enough to stay there. He OFFERED so to me he's obligated himself to do it but ad they ASKED him for this and he said no, would he be wrong?
well he is not obligated to pay her tuition, i dont care if he offered or not, she should've had a back up plan jus in case he couldn't come through...but then again 3400? he cant even pay that? come on now...i think he jus dont wanna pay it! but then again he is not obligated too, so she is on her own, and i believe she is old enuff to make her own decisions and stop askin daddy for everythin cuz "he's rich"...u dont see angela and vanessa askin they daddy for money, they got they own careers, she should take note!

I wish someone would have given me money when I was in college, I had to work every step of the way..but when I got out I had NO LOANS. Kid, you should always have a back up plan. If he would stop spending his money on all these hoes and spend it on all these kids he said he wanted in the first place, he would have the money. I usually stick up for the men but in this case, I'm not. You know I have many white clients in the finance world who have set up college savings accts for their kids when they were little, I also have clients who have taken out second mortgages to pay for their entire childrens education and not just one child, but 2-3-4 children.
The fact is that we as african americans have bad money management skills. Why? Simply because no one ever taught us. Now this doesn't apply to all, but many fit the bill.

He may not be obligated, but as a parent who cared about his child's goals and education (which apparently he doesn't care), paying would have been the right thing to do.
If you read, it clearly says Flav agreed to pay the money. Then Flav backtracked on his word, then flat out dogged his seed altogether. That's cold blooded.

Just remember you words Flav: when you get old as dirt and can't take care of yourself, your kids won't feel obligated to help you either.
Why would this story be surprising or really even news? It’s rather well known that Flav hasn’t supported his children. As for the amount…that child can get a student loan and complete his/her education. If he/she chooses to toss the final portion of their education away and blame it on the daddy…too bad for them.

@ BrealK, you took the words out of my mouth. It can't be new to this child that his/her father is a deadbeat. If you want to graduate go get some loans that's what I did and I'm still paying them off :-(, but you have to do what you have to do. Get a part time job, maybe take some classes now and the rest later until you can pay for it, but don't live your life as if it is over because he won't take care of you or you might as well give up now.

The people who ramble about "this person is too grown to be running to daddy" and "parents ain't obligated after the child turns 18" are just giving poor excuses and contribute to black fathers not taking responsibility.
I am a current college student. I received a full scholarship but in the event that I didn't and I had to pay for my higher education, my parents would've made sure to do all they could to help AS LONG AS THEY SAW ME HELPING MYSELF. They would rather me try to make it in college than to sit in housing project, with a lazy azz man, with 2 or 3 children and collect welfare checks.
It doesn't matter that I am an adult. I'm doing what I got to do for myself so I can live comfortably. They see the beauty in that and encourage me to remain focused. If I was lazy and didn't want anything out of life, then thats when they'll close their check books. But like I said, my parents are supporters, providers, counselors and are great responsible parents.
Unless I'm up to no good, on drugs, freeloading, or not taking care of my business, they're door are always open for me when I need help.
Now really why would anyone be suprized..this has been in the news before when he worked out with the court to pay support back in the past or he was looking at jail time..whats a *** shame is all those women that wanted a chance at love with this fool when he cant show love towards his own seeds..this is why some men need to be snipped and clipped ASAP. Dont create no more when u dont want any

Glamorous: I totally agree with what you're saying, my mother treats us the same way. Why...because she knows how hard it was for her as a single parent and *** sure didn't want her kids to go through the same thing. My Mom was raised on that same bullsh*t logic "you're grown, and you're own your own" and that's exactly why she raised her kids differently. She told us at a young age that since she had her bachelors degree we ALL were going to get ours as well and continue beyond that.
I have to congratulate everyone who went out in the world without the help of their parents. BUT keep it 100% real, IF you could've had help from both parents it would've been greatly appreciated!!! And like a few people have already said, those kids DID NOT ASK to be here!

@ glamorous...u took the words out of my mouth i cant stand all these ppl that think that if ur parents help u out ur spoiled and have no responsibility...they the ones that think getting things for themselves means selling drugs or living off everyone else by way of welfare...i bet all of them r on food stamps now, and have to go to free clinics for colds...i hate that my parents r paying for idiots to go to college for free to party and drop out, when i get $0 from FAFSA...yea my parents take good care of me, im 20 and i've never paid a bill(not even my cell phone) and im more responsible than many of these ppl that think that u can only learn by having a hard life...my parents dont mind paying for my school because i have As and Bs in nursing school, and i will be a neurologist in about 6 years...my parents pay for my education now because they know i'll soon be taking care of them with my 6 figure salary...i LOVE being a SPOILED BRAT, stop being mad poor ppl and quit hating....PARENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN!!! they *** have kids if this is not the case!!!!

@ itzjustme Don't give up on your father just yet.You take that frustration and anger and turn it to motivation and do what you can,because when you do become a success on your own,life will be so much sweeter and more apreciated and you just might end up thanking him for not being there and bailing you out,because you did it without him and you're more of a man than he was for it.
William, (aka)MAN, Shanique, and Karen Drayton-Flav's oldest children, not only have had a distant relationship with their Dad, but years and yeas of negative and derogatory insinuations have been feed to them by their scorned mother. Who could blame them. But if you are to exploit the truth. Expose it all. To make up for lost time, Flav not only has paid for Williams education (and will continue), but bought a car for graduating, countless pocket money, trips throughout the US and Canada, and nearly 30k in Rehab. For his daughters, months and months of payment not for only rent but car notes and insurance. But because of the gap in communication between father and child and the inability to express what really matters, we have *** to this embarrassing half of truth. Anybody who gets a chance to help one of our children graduate from College will probably be BLESSED 10 fold in the end. We can spend money on everything else - like new cars, etc. but feel its too much when it comes to our children's education. Flav, I don't care if you have to borrow the money - do it for your child's future. It will probably turn out to be the best investment you've ever made in your LIFE. We as parents, must invest in our children's future, ESPECIALLY, the way the country is looking today. You won't be able to get a job without college credentials in this economy.
Well, all I gotta say is GROW UP "KID OF FLAV"! I only started my account so I could tell this child of Flavor's that flashing his personal life about his relationship with his father on the worldwide web sure IS NOT the best way to communicate to your Dad.
Flavor has always put his kids # 1 - sure family's have ups and downs, but one thing is for certain....he writes songs about his kids, he has provided for his kids...he has taken his family to places they would have never gone or have seen if it hadn't been for his father's hard work and tenacity.
So, you need $3400. WAAAAAAHHHH.....Most people get grants, loans, or JOBS to pay the way through school. I know I did. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a celebrity Dad help them out along the way. And I know he's helped you out from time to time. And, Blessings should be valued.

This is not a child support case. This is a case of a SPOILED BRAT trying to make his father look bad. Anything your parents contribute to your education is a gift not a requirement. Beside when you pay for your own education, you will take it more seriously. There’s a little thing called a STUDENT LOAN, which many of us have, try applying for one! This is hardly a case of him ruining your life, in fact he’s probably doing you a favor and teaching you a lesson. There’s not pity for you from this party. All you did was make yourself look like a manipulative brat – don’t think others don’t see through it.
I'm not surprised either. Flav is a dead-beat unstable father and a man that can't take responsible and is too sorry and triflin to step up as a man and a father. But if you can't afford to support your children, Flav, then why bringing them into this world in the first place? He is somewhat confused. All he cares about is two things: money and his self-interest.
