I got to Morehouse College and am an advocate for HBCUs and HBCU love and unity; however, these rankings are so arbitrary it's hard to say who's the best. Graduation rate is has a huge bearing on the rankings and let's be real, some HBCUs are harder to matriculate from than others. For example, Morehouse is extremely academically challenging, so making it out in 4 years is difficult here. Spelman on the other hand has the same number of required hours to graduate as Morehouse except they get 4 hours for each class while we get 3. So obviously it's easier to graduate. My girl goes to Spelman and has taken no more than 15 hours any semester, and she's still graduating a semester early. I have never taken less than 18 hours and even took 21 last semester. Despite this, I am in my last semester and am taking 18 credits. I'm making it out in four years but trust me it's rare at Morehouse. These rankings do show the top 3 schools in terms of matriculation into highly ranked graduate schools though. So, take these rankings with a grain of salt.
If you want to go to school to feel good about yourself go to a HBCU, if you want to get a real education attend a major to mid major university.
The fact that Claflin and Fiski is on the list means that there are really low standards for black colleges and universities.
HBCU undergrades always have problems competing with graduates from major universities, including minority graduates. The problem is lack of facilities and connections to cutting edge research and industry leaders-all of which have heavy influence, and access on major college campuses.
HBCU's are not cheaper. Although they lack the facilities (poor libraries and technology overall)they charge the same prices as the world best and most prestigous universities. In the end the graduates cannot compete with their counter-parts from major universities but have equivalent to greater debt loads after graduation.
HBCU's served their purpose but have now become retirement homes for old professors who may not be aware or in touch with new developments in their fields. HBCU's create a false sense of accomplishment in it's graduates and does not prepare them for interactions with the diveres work and professional world, which is most definetly mostly white.
DO NOT CRIPPLE YOUR CHILDREN!!! HBCU's ARE TRAPS!!!
Join the mainstream and prosper!

#1 should be my school that I graduated from, Hampton University. No other school can get with our ''home by the sea.'' Howard, Spelman, and Morehouse are all in shabby areas. Hampton's campus looks better than most ''White'' schools. We have numerous scholars excelling in all fields throughout the country. No HBCU can touch the real H.U.
Peace to all my Hamptonians who chilled at the infamous ''Yellow House.''
NICE TOO SEE THESE COLLEGES STILL THRIVING, BUT LIKE SOMEONE SAID EARLIER, MANY HBCU'S NEED MAJOR FUNDING.
IN OHIO, 2 WELL KNOWN HBCU'S, CENTRAL STATE AND WILBERFORCE, STILL NEED MAJOR FUNDING TO MAINTAIN RELEVANCY THOUGH THEY BOTH HAVE TREMENDOUS HISTORIES AND PRIDE.
BIG, BIG "UPS" TO ALL THE HBCU'S STILL STANDING!

I BEG TO DIFFER
MOREHOUSE
MOREHOUSE SHOULD BE #1. It's THE ONLY SCHOOL WITH A MEDICAL SCHOOL.
XAVIER XAVIER SHOULD BE #2. ITS' THE ONLY SCHOOL THAT IS #1 IN PLACING BLACKS INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL.
CAN'T BE MUCH SMARTER THAN A DR. AND MOREHOUSE AND XAVIER TOPS THAT LIST.
