: MediaTakeOut.com has been hearing for months that Vibe Magazine is having financial problems. Yesterday the website Gawker posted this message:
A tipster tells us the atmosphere is tense at the Vibe offices—"they may not have enough money to print the March issue" because of a lack of adsHave to say … we ain’t surprised one bit by this report.Executives from the Wicks Group (Private Equity Owners) came to the office on Friday and met with CEO Steve Aaron and Publisher Edgar Hernandez. Things around the office are very tense.
The tipster says that more meetings are scheduled for this afternoon. And they say that the only ads Vibe has booked for the March issue are "Army, Carson Soft Sheen & Jamster"—not even a fifth of the usual number of ads.
In other news, we’re happy to report that last month (January 2009) was MediaTakeOut.com’s best month ever in terms of traffic. We received approximately 5 million unique users and a little more than 300,000,000 page views. Just to be clear - that’s SIGNIFICANTLY more traffic than ANY Black or Urban website – including the ones owned by MAJOR companies.
Do you smell the change in the air….
EDITOR'S Update - Vibe issued the following response:
"Any reports that VIBE is having problems printing the upcoming March issue are untrue. In fact, VIBE is releasing its annual "Style" issue featuring Grammy nominated singer Keyshia Cole with two different covers which will hit newsstands everywhere on February 17th.We will also be issuing a press release within the next two weeks with news about VIBE's continued growth and expansion which includes new staff hires and promotions." Edgar Hernandez, Publisher of VIBE Media Group.

MEDIATAKEOUT IS THE BEST WEBSITE, WITH MORE INFORMATIVE NEWS....MORE PEOPLE ARE COMING TO MTO MORE THAN THESE HIP HOP MAGAZINES...I ACTUALLY LIKE MTO MORE THAN TMZ....BECAUSE MTO DOSENT KEEP SHOWING THE SAME OLE PEOPLE ON THEIR SITE/SHOW LIKE TMZ DOES... MTO IS SMART TO COVER INTRESTING NEWS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD....

Being a nerd is in...
Yeah because all of the so called Black magazines are all trying to be like Us weekly and that other ***, it seems the farther we get away from slavery the quicker we want to go back. smh
@antidumb you know what, I was trying to find the perfect adjective to describe you and "watchdog" is perfect.Peace.
Fred, you must be outta your *** mind!! It seems you seriously believe you're up there with the bonafide, credible, editorials. Wake up and smell the horse *** son! And let go of these delusions of grandeur. If MTO is THAT successful, then you just make sure your taxes are straight boy. Don't wanna have to read 'bout your zesty *** being handcuffed from A & W Mens Restroom, while conducting "Buisness".
I have not purchased any magazines in a long time. I mean really, you can get all your gossip, entertainment news, anything online. I was glancing at a Vibe book in a store, just to see what they were talking about and all the information they were saying I already new about. Most of there entertainment news are coming from blogs. I be darn if I spend 2.99 on a magazine when I get my news online at a quick of flash.
The Internet is killing print journalism!
viral video sites, online zines, and gossip blogs are the future because it's:
1) instant (24/7 info accessible all over the world)
2) people do not want bias in their news
3) IT'S FREE
4) online sites(ie. MTO) are the underdog in the world of journalism... we all like to cheer for the underdog
1st it was the source magazine, then vibe magazine?! wtf the world is comming 2? back then, all of those hip-hop magazines was the *** and all of the sudden, all hell broke lose when it come 2 the readers and the money went down 2 the hill.i hope all of these magazines will revive again.nowadays, them *** keep copping the feds magazine and the don diva magazine b/c they talking about all of the former drug kingpins, thugs, big booty girls and etc. no wonder hip hop is dead so thanx 2 the down south rappers and curtis jackson. hip hop will never be the same like it was b4.
who are the idiots that still buy magazines? its 2009! websites dont charge for the info. thats why they have tacky advertisements everywhere! plus celebs are starting to do their own interviews with the blog thing going on. i almost bought an XXL mag today to read while im in the bathroom but figured " i already know whats in the mag from the websites i visit so i will save my bucks."
