: Stars always talk about helping starving children in Africa. Well MediaTakeOut.com has learned that actress Salma Hayak is doing something about it.
Here’s how the UK’s Daily Mail is reporting it:
The 42-year-old [actress Salma Hayak], who has a one-year-old daughter Valentina, was touring a hospital when she came across a mother who was unable to feed her baby boy. Although TV cameras were there from ABC's Nightline news programme, the actress did not hesitate.That seems a bit EXTREME to us … but at least the child got to eat!!!Hayek said: 'The baby was perfectly healthy, but the mother did not have any milk. He was very hungry - I was weaning my daughter Valentina, but I still had a lot of milk, so I breast-fed the baby.'
She added: 'It was amazing because he's really looking at me and he's very little. My baby is one year so she can suck a lot harder.'
in many non western cultures, when a mother isn't able to breast feed or isn't avaiable to breast feed, as long as another woman has milk and is healthy, there's nothing at all wrong with breast feeding a child who needs it or is not your child.

Salma did this for attention. She's always walking around with her breasts out for all to see. She knows the only thing men rave about her is her giant boobs. In a sick way, I believe she did this to appear even sexier to men.
If she really wanted to help this hungry child she would have sent to buy the kid some milk and then hit the mother off with extra cash so that she may buy extra milk for the following days.

Why don't you nurse a sick child then feed your baby on the same breast? There are health risks associated with any exchange of bodily fluids, babies included.

Woman did this to nurse the babies who's mothers could not nurse them thereselves when there was no such thing as formula and canned Carnation milk. It doesn't matter if it's your baby or not as long as a child let alone an INFANT baby can eat. I know if my children where hungry and I could not feed them I would love for someone to feed them!!! dmarie 2316: PLEASE learn to READ! First of all, she said she was WEANING her baby of the tit, but still had milk. Therefore, she doesn't have to feed her own baby with her breast. Next, her daughter was not with her. Although you might not wash daily, I'm sure Selma washed her tit at least once before seeing her kid. and finally, I imagine you have never done well in science or any other type of education, or else you might know contagious diseases are not spread from a suckler to a feeder. However a baby can get a disease from a woman who nurses them. So you had it backwards - educate yourself please!

it is a great thing that she was willing to wet nurse this child but um...what happens in a few hours when the camera isn't there? is she gonna stay there to feed him again? what is really great is if she provides the mother with some type of work to continue to feed her child (canned milk). feed a man a fish and he'll eat for a day....
@sweetluxury - I know she had a camera crew because she was touring the hospital. But if you read the story, she breast fed this child anyway. If she was the *** you say, she would of wanted to get paid to show her breast. I doubt she would of done it for free. And at the risk of everyone seeing her breast - she did it anyway. That's not a *** - that's a good woman.
THERE'S ORGANIZATIONS WHERE YOU CAN SEND YOUR BREASTMILK TO IMPOVERISHED FAMILIES RIGHT HERE IN THE U.S. SHE NEED TO LOOK INTO THAT. That is F******* disgusting! If you're still within the pregnancy/natal stage where your breasts are producing milk, then you most likely have you child with you and some spare milk in bottles. Yes, it is sad that this baby is starving, but you don't know what you're passing to this child by giving him your breast milk. If you want to feed him/her, use bottled formula milk or some baby food. Just because she isn't doesn't mean she isn't passing something to that child that they immune to.

A year in which most Americans can purchase baby formula and water conveniently. Given that she is American, wealthy, and traveling to a third world country, why didn't she expect to encounter such a scenario and bring any approved baby food that she though necessary. Guess she's got to build up public approval and interest for her upcoming guest spot on 30 Rock -Our foremothers had to do this, it was their job. The fact that they had to do this even though the birth mother was fully capable and during a time of scientific ineptitude makes the act in our foremothers situation even more disgusting. (Not the Black women, the situation and what they had to do). Why would you allow someone you see as an animal and inferior produce and feed milk to your child when you are fully capable of it? You don't know what they're passing to them.

This brought tears to my eyes; I was feeding my own child when I read the story. I've always liked Salma and now I like her even more. I would have wanted to offer my milk if I had been in that situation, but I wouldn't know how to ask that mom if she wanted me to feed her baby without feeling weird. I hope she was tactful when she asked, I didn't see the show.
She probably experienced the let-down reflex. Many breastfeeding moms start to leak if they see a baby or hear one cry; it doesn't even need to be their own baby. If the baby was crying it may have caused her milk to flow.
Some of the comments just shows the ignorance of your own history. Slaves used to nurse the slave masters babies. Its called being "wet nurse".
The US is FAR behind in understand the importance of breastfeeding for newborns. Also, blacks were told it was NOT a good thing to breastfeed their own children once formula was created.
