Actually B-Ball players go broke at a faster rate than cats in other sports, hard as they is to believe. There was a study last year that showed that 60% of NBA players go broke within 5 years of retirement.
Cats have to do better with their money. Too many getting too much money too fast. Bill Simmons wrote a great article talking about it yesterday on ESPN.
"See, we learned a dirty little secret in the last lockout: An inordinate number of NBA players live paycheck to paycheck. Yes, even the guys making eight figures a year. You're asking yourself, "Wait, how can a dude making $8-10 million a year live paycheck to paycheck?" Easy. First, he's only banking 40 percent once the IRS and agents are done with him. Second, he's probably overpaying for multiple houses and luxury cars just to keep up with everyone else. Man! There should be a lesson page for the people that post. When a house goes to auction it's almost always because of unpaid property taxes to the county or it's being put up for auction by the bank. Sick of stupid athletes that can't do the math or don't pay for their houses outright with the kind of money they make. Even if you make 20 million the governments getting 30-40 percent of that the states getting 10 percent then they buy 3 or 4 house at rediculous proces then can't meet the mortgage, property tax obligations, and expenses it takes for each one. Through in the ignorant cars and jewelry they buy and the next thing they know they're cash strapped.

Iverson is one of the rare athletes that make an extreem amount of money in the NBA. Yes, a lot of athletes go broke after retirement... but athletes like Iverson, Kobe, Shaq ect. that make the big bucks will likely never go broke. Even with taxes taken out..at this point in Iversons career he has to at least be worth close to $150 million easily, and that is AFTER taxes. the man has had one of the largest paychecks in the NBA for years, has a LIFETIME Reebok contract along with other endorsements. I dont care how many cars he supposeidly has, unless he is extremely over the top with his spending, he is NOT going broke anytime soon...I dont care how much money he is gambling. Im just saying, lets stop beleiving EVERYTHING you read, this is MTO..its just not that serious.

Save your ranting for NBA.com or SLAM ONLINE. Its not that serious. Denver needed a decent PG wether Iverson was there or not, that was not Iversons job to come in and do all the work by himself, Denver is Carmelo's team and Carmelo is the one that needs to be embarrased at the fact that that franchise has to constantly go out and make major trades for star players to supposeidly come in and save that flailing franchise when that is supposed to be his job as a "star" athlete. They should have never had to bring Iverson in. Also, the West isn't anywhere as tough as it was last season, the Nuggets won 50 games last season (which is a good record) and still only got 8th place. This season is not as tough. Im not sure which team you are watching...but the Sixers SUCK post Iverson...at least they were entertaining to watch with AI.
As far as Detroit, thats a team effort with them not suceeding. Iverson isn't even being utilized correctly on that team...their Coach should get fired as well. AI at least has been to the NBA finals, which is a lot more you can say about some so-called "star" players.
