I've been to Barcelona and Madrid and it was impossible for me to get a taxi unless the hotel called it for it in advance or someone white flagged it down for me. I went to a couple of restaurants and the tension was noticiable for sure. All the brothas and sistas(Africans) there for the most part are scared or act like their scared to speak. But I notice this in general with black people in Europe, They seem to not want offend whites by speaking to another strange black person. Some of the ignorant posts on this topic are amazing, A few brothas and sistas have no heart and they block out or rationalize racist insults and behavior maybe in the hopes that if ignored it will just go away. I would love some of the "so whats" and "blowin it out of proportion" camps to get a dose of it (taunts)and see if it felt trivial. Spain has consistenly made world news over *** like this.
@Tennis & 360 - You have to remember there is also a cultural difference between the Americans and the rest of the world. Americans generally, are known to be friendly and outgoing (AKA loud) whereas European blacks have indoctrinated the social behaviour of the country they reside in and everybody knows Europe is the frosty cousin of America.
For those of you that have lived in Europe you will know that Europe as a whole can be a hostile environment for black men....particularly successful black men.

Spaniards are very racist. Remember the slant eyed gestures in the pics for the Olympics. They consider themselves the "white people" of the Portuguese speaking cultures. They look down on darker skinned folks like Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Brazilians and so on (although there are paper bag tests in some of those countries as well). Also, people from Spain do not consider themselves Latino. You have to remember Spain is in EUROPE. Europe = a lot of white people. There were slaves in Spain, and apparantley, a lot of the country still thinks that way.
I'm glad this topic came up because i always thought that Europe loved black people especially Spain.I always believed that, Europe was so popular because of how many black singers, actresses and models went to Europe just to heighten their careers. This is an eye opener for me and I'm and really saddened that, black people as a whole are still being condemned for the color of our skin when our heritage and blood is thicker than anything else in history. Hopefully one day racist people will realize not everyone is the same and sometimes you have to look on the outside instead of the inside.
