:
Her hair looks beautiful, thick, and healthy, and it suits her. I don't get why people say "everyone can't do natural" You weren't born with a perm; you were brainwashed into thinking that you need one. Or brainwashed into thinking you had bad/nappy hair that needed a perm. Natural looks good on everyone if they take care of it b/c it is the way your hair was meant to be! The only "good" hair is healthy hair
@jacksolj: Totally agree!
How can a whole race of ppl born w/beautiful tightly curled/kinky/coily hair think that it's ugly and a mistake that needs to be fixed? It started w/ brainwashing and that led to a tradition...and now most black folk just dont know any better and think it's SUPPOSED to be relaxed to look good. It's sad. We are NOT born w/ relaxed hair. We(almost ALL of us) are born w/ our beautiful coily texture so, how can it not be for us? That's subconscious self hate...
Daaaammmnnn...alot of self hating, field grown kneegrows out this mofo.
Saying stupid *** like everybody can't rock a natural...
...IF you Black...you CAN rock a natural...case closed...stupid nyggers yo. White people did a number on you dumb ***...bleach ya ***' skin...
...and it's mainly the Black Women...which i'm not surprised much at all...***' stupid.
I LOVE I LOVE IT!!! I'M ROCKING MY AFRO NOW!!!NOTHING WRONG WITH WEARING YOUR NATURAL AFRO HAIR!!!IT'S BEAUTIFUL AND IT'S NOT A BAD THING!!! I GET COMPLIMENTS EVERY WHERE AND I PERSONALLY DON'T CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT BLACK NATURAL BEAUTY!!!SOME OF YOU SHOULD TRY IT, IT WON'T KILL YOU TO BE NATURAL SOMETIMES OR ALL THE TIME!!!
I barely ever comment but sometimes I the ignorance of some of these MTO readers irks me. "Natural hair aint for everybody"? Are you serious? it is your NATURAL hair. I am by no means a "power to the people, black panther type" either. I am proud to be a black woman at an ivy league law school and i am also PROUD OF MY NATURAL HAIR. I also do not judge anyone who decides to straighten their hair since everyone is entitled to their preferences. But What kind of reasoning skills will make any black person come to that conclusion. How can a hair you are born with not be "right for you"?
jacksojl : i totally agree with you...her hair is soo amazing..It makes me soo upset to hear people downing her hair because it isn't straightened or permed..I am natural my self and I love it..I bet some of these women who are sitting here talking about her hair is ugly have no hair them selves with no *** edges..I love the hair that god gave me and maybe some of you women should to..It will not kill you to try a change..Good luck getting those perms every month..
I now reckon after reading further comments that Jacksoji and Curlyivy have expressed the same ideas. Great to know that a of lot of black people are not caught up in the same colonialist mindset bullsh*T. I want to stress this in case someone decides to aimlessly attack me, Everyone should have hair that makes them feel confident, be it fake, real, natural or straight. I just think it is extremely ignorant to make an assertion that "Natural hair aint for anybody" or "straight hair looks better" when we were all born with gorgeous curly locks. That's all.
@cutenap123 ITA. I barely comment either but only because I never really feel like it. Ignorance is always running rapid through this site. There are some ignorant *** black people on here that I do MY BEST to stay away from on a daily basis. That much ignorance could be contagious. And, the 'men' on this site. UGH.
It's amazing to me that so many blacks are ashamed of themselves. Nappy or kinky hair as so many like to call it, is our natural hair. "Relaxers", is your hair stressed or up-tight, why does it have to be relaxed? "Straightened", is your hair curved or wrinkled, why does it have to be straightened? MTO has us always talking about good hair and light skin and anything else that causes self-hate among African Americans. This person is too dark or look at their nose... It's called being black people, and they really try to make us hate it. "They" being the MEDIA (yes even MTO).
how funny that the same black guys in here that complain about how black women need to stop fakin it with weaves and relaxers are being so negative (and are inadvertantly exibiting self hate) toward a beautiful black nautural woman who is not hiding behind fake hair to be accepted in hollywood there is nothing wrong with her hair it's not dirty or full of lint like she didnt' comb it out so whats the problem?!! y'all *** kill me i swear...
We self-hate so much that white folks think it's acceptable to say that someones hair looks "nappy". I've heard whites refer to other white's with less than perfect hair as "nappy". I will not disrespect another race to make my people realize that there is nothing wrong with us. No matter what they have conditioned us to feel about our hair, nose, lips, complexion or neighborhoods, we are a strong race that survived slavery, but the mental job that they have done on us, is worse than slavery.
Oh thats great! she has alot of courage to wear her hair like that since everyone wants their hair perfectly straight and long! why the hell should she wear a weave she has natrally thick long hair! unlike most black women she trys differnt hair textures and she can pull off an afro well. its very good to be different.
Question,
What changed from the 70's to now that made black people hate their hair so much?
I wasn't born yet so maybe I'm wrong.
And why does it only seem to be an issue for black women and not black men?
Black men have the same hair textures as we do. But no one tells them to get a relaxer.
What's the deal?
@MelissaRa-That's the *** Im trying to figure out. I don't understand how black men can say they want a girl with a relaxer when they have tight coiled hair themselves? You would think they would want their woman to at least be a reflection of themselves if they loved themselvs so much or be comfortable with wearing straight hair even if she trades it for straight sometimes.
I'm all 4a woman's freedom in fashion but black men putting down natural hair down doesn't make sense 2me at all.
Like MelissaRa said, "Black men have the same hair textures as we do. But no one tells them to get a relaxer."
I'm slowly transitioning from relaxed to natural. Comments like this is why I wear wigs. I feel guilty about it. What do other races think when they see all these attractive Black women with hair down their backs...that is detachable? We are soooo fake. Its so sad.
But heaven forbid I wear my own hair with all this "new growth". Nappy? My own black people call each other nappy? Telling other women they need a hot comb? I have TEARS IN MY EYES reading these comments.
Some people so dumb on here, how can she not rock her natural hair that she was born with??? What really gets me is most of the women on here complain when they see girls on here with contacts, blonde weave (just read the MJB post) etc but then wanna hate when someone decides to go all natural? Make up your *** minds people.
But heaven forbid I wear my own hair with all this "new growth". Nappy? My own black people call each other nappy? Telling other women they need a hot comb? I have TEARS IN MY EYES reading these comments. = = = = Black people need to wake up and realize that every hair texture tangles if you dont comb it. It's just that other races call it tangles while we call it nappy. I dont even use the word nappy anymore to describe black hair I say tight coiled.
I've been natural for about 6 years. I just cut it about 3 months ago to make it look more like an afro. And then I cut it again 2 days ago to shape it more like Monique's.
I LOVE my hair. My mom relaxed my hair when I was about 13.
For the woman above that said that she's going natural, PLEASE DO NOT BE ASHAMED OF IT. YOU WILL LOVE IT AND SO WILL EVERYONE ELSE. TRUST ME.
It's all about knowing how to care of it. And keeping it moisturized. Try brands like Carol's Daughter and Miss Jessie's. Their products keep my hair well moisturized.
Monique is attractive to me. I never understood why a lot of ppl say otherwise on this site but again this is just my opinion so....
MelissaRa, good point!
GODFAV, don't have any regrets about being Black or going natural. There are persons who will embrace it and some who won't. I too recently went natural (did the Big Chop) and I am glad I did it! My regret at one point was not having done it sooner. Now with that said I won't degrade anyone who chooses not too. I can also HONESTLY say I didn't look down on anyone who wore their hair natural during the time I didn't.
Now don't take these mens' comments to heart. They are not conscious of their thoughts although they like to belive otherwise. They, like us women, have been conditioned for years to deny our natural appearance. Look @ a typical beauty supply store in a Black neighborhood and take a look @ one in a White neighborhood. Ours is like a department store. Over 10 brands of relaxers and any kind of hair texture you want.
Some will wake up sooner then others so instead of getting upset w/them be glad you have become one step closer to consciousness.
@MYOPINIONANTIFUR- I was quoting someone, lol. But Im with you no one *** feel ashamed being what God gave them. Im saying that about every woman. Fashion is fun but if you can't go without your natural hair color, skin color(tanning and bleaching), eye color (colored contacts), hair texture (straightening and chemically curling the hair), and/or makeup with out feeling ugly than you need an intervention, lol. If you can look in the mirror raw without temporary modifications and still smile than it's whatever have fun.
I think its sexy. Problem with this girl is she is really pretty in the face, but when you get the full body *** of her, she's not as attractive. Her body's not bad, or good. Its just sorta there.
I think the only way we're gonna get black women to stop with the overuse of the relaxers and weaves, is to get a hollywood star, who's considered really beautiful, to go natural. And, she'll have to be succesful with it.
She'll have to be the leading lady, and the romantic intrest while going natural.
She'll have to be on the level of Halle Berry, in beauty and ***.
Continued...
The problem with that is getting a black women to that level of *** in the first place.
We have lots of black men at that level. Will, Denzel, Samuel L., Morgan Freeman, Forest Whitaker, Terrence Howard, Jamie Fox. But, there are no black women on that level.
And, if we do get one, they'll be so much pressure on her to look a certain way, and conform.
If straightening her hair, and weaves, got her that far, she would be extremely brave to take a chance on going natural.
@papamurf
I agree with you 100%
I've been saying this for a long time. Hollywood sets the trends. So that's what we need.
By the way, I was watching BET the other day. And I saw they have a show called "My Black is Beautiful". And they were talking about different black hair textures and how to take care of them.
I was so disappointed when they used Pantene products on all of the different hair types. It wasn't good advice. They just did it to satisfy their sponsor.
I'm confused...people are always condemning weaves, but when someone goes natural they say get a weave or a perm! I like her hair, it's a good old 1970's Thelma from "Good Times" 'fro. This looks much better on her than those crooked, unnatural wigs she was wearing. You don't have to be all crunchy and earthy like Badu or Arie to wear a natural.
When a woman feels comfortable not being theirselves she is totally lost. When a black man prefer's their woman to not embrace her true identity he is a sorry individual. Its amazing that black men curse brothas that do perm yet they curse their own women for not wearing one??? WTF???? Are ya'll *** or just born naturally cooned? I won't even try to understand these "sistas" with weaves, blue-eyed contacts a blondhair. The same one's that curse when a black man goes with a white woman are the same one's that envy them. Both brothas and sistas have alot of soulsearching to do.
This is a funny funny post. I read alot o "black" women's post and its scary at the amount of assine and backwards thinking that is coming out the mouths. "Its not for me" "only a few sistas can pull it off" Are ya'll dumb as *** or what??? How in the world are you born with certain hair texture only to grow up saying its "not for you". That is pretty much *** thinking. Then you all will *** about brothas messing with nonblack women?
Who does she think she is, acting like she's confident in loving herself and knowing that she's of a royal melinated blood line? She need to get off of that high horse and act just like the rest of us who are unhappy with our hair and skin, and straighten that SHI%! And get some WEAVE from impoverished people. Be like all the DL men who hate the strong blackness of there momas, So they say that they prefer our hair to look like our mother slept with a monkey to birth us. Her hair is gordious like leaping sun flames. I blame US not Masa. Gods lost Children. Our time has come again.
@MOPRIDE: COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER!
With each post, the tone becomes increasingly hateful and negative. Why would it NOT look cute for her to wear the hair she was born with? Because everyone and their mother would rather GLUE FAKE HAIR to their head instead of caring for their own?
YOU KNOW WHAT'S NOT CUTE?
Trying to shove the few strands you haven't burned off into a ponytail, wearing your hairline completely off, and slapping on pounds of horsetail down your back and wanna talk about "I'm half Puerto-Rican/Irish/Indian/Native American," AKA ANY ACCEPTABLE ANCESTRY OTHER THAN MINE!
One minute you hypocritical *** women/men say black women need to rock their hair the "Natural Way", but as soon as someone do it, y'all knock them. Y'all are some losers! I hate people like that. Sometimes people like that, really need to not be allowed to have an opinion.
I personally like perm, weave, braids, etc...b/c I look good in WHATEVER I rock. If you don't like it, then you can go eat a ***.
I think it is beautiful. It is sad to read some of these comments. I think we should all be free to be comfortable in our own skin. Don't knock people who wear their hair natural or weaved up. It's all about everyone's own self expression. Hey, I'm natural (no perm), but I will throw on a cute 1/2 wig if I feel like it. So everyone, just do you, okay?! And let's love US:) nuff love, Foxy Feline
how can the way ur hair grows naturally from ur scalp be bad?? it is the way God made black peoples hair
also black do not know how to do thier hair cus they have not been taught. 1st off u dont use small teeth combs and you dont "hot blow dry" it it u want it to keep moisture.
there was a time when white people were jealous of afro and worked to make thier hair look like an afro but in order 4 them 2 do less work they just told us it was ugly & now where working 2 look like them
if u only open ur mind & look w/ sain eyes u'd see how absurd & rediculous some of these wigs *** weaves loo
@ MelissaRa & GODFAVYall are like 2 of the only people on here that actually get it And I'm sorry if this thread had to get emotional for you. I can tell that yall have knowledge of self, just go with that and you'll be fine (it helps you when you're just observing the world). They gave us a name and we still use it (on each other), they told us that some of us are darker than others (the lighter you are or closer to white the better you are). They told us that our noses were too wide and that our lips were to thick (not European enough). What if we find out that those traits may save us. 1Luv
her hair is beautiful ok the girls that are dogging on her hair need to stop because yall probably dont have any hair in the first place.thats y yall stay wearin those tired *** weaves.at least she has hair.if she straightened her hair it looks like it would be pretty long.so please stop hating on her. ive been natural most of my life *** trust me its better than being relaxed because my hair is healthier *** real long and i also have the option of straightening it or wearin it curly.some of yall with tht dry,***,breaking relaxed hair should consider goin natural.
Hmmm, I'm trying to figure out what a Queen or a King doing with a HUMAN, that is to say a man only in image, a Hybrid man, Infact there was a special on PBS called the family who walks on all 4's, and some of them still have tails today. (They showed them!) So your HUMAN+/- only wants to survive the great change by high jacking your melonine. Maybe get a spawn out the deal so he can continue the ***$% Especially with our Queens. Its not enough to be contious, but cognisent as well. Most of us probably never heard of MELANINE before right? Read and Research, turn off the TV for 1wk
"Hair Like Wool" Christians! Do you know y your hair is curly like wool, Like the universe itself, Spiral? Did u know that your hair is solid and thin, the thinner, the more curley and more original the bloodline. The Human's hair strand is hollow like a drinking straw, like animal fur.(hint hint) Thats why it's straight and smells when wet, like a wild animal, U see DNA doesn't lie. And we want to look and be like them. The very thought of laying with one is borderline ***. You are the original rulers of this earth, ou want to be like them while they are jealous of U.
Read, "Blacked out Through White Wash'" by Dr. Suzar & DIRT by Tarrence Mcglaughlin. This is a history of the pink european written by one of there own. Since most of U Hate Melinated Scholars too.
This isn't Hate It's Scientic Fact. The time has come again for our ascent. to redeam our ank-esters and future generations. "Honor thy mother and father that your days may be long on the Earth
Earth- Pysical representation of the melinated woman(-).
There is nothing wrong with a course afro, but it definitely should be tamed. However, some of you, who would rather embrace the european standard of beauty, find naturally course hair replusive because you're used to long, silky hair in which the music videos and high-profile model magazines promote. The funny thing is that some of you probably have the same texture of hair she has, but after so many years of relaxers, flat irons, and weaves, you seem to have forgotten.
