: MediaTakeOut.com just received a tip – this weekend on ESPN’s Outside The Lines, the network is going to do a special on Athletes giving 10% of their salaries to preachers.
In the report, MediaTakeOut.com learned that they’ll chronicle how boxer Evander Holyfield paid an estimated $20 Million in tithes to Creflo Dollar’s World Changers Church in Atlanta. And now he’s FLAT BROKE, his home is being foreclosed, and he’s behind in child support payments.
But what’s even crazier is that Evander’s so deep in debt that he has to continue fighting – and he risks being KILLED in the ring. And where is his money going to??? Well he’s reportedly still giving his money to Creflo instead of trying to get back on his feet.

You can tell how old some of you are by the responses you type. First off Giving tithes (not paying) is ones own personal decision. That act alone comes from the heart based upon faith in God's word. If you decide to give a 10% of your income thne so be it. Just because someone has faith in God's word and believes they will be blessed doesn't make the pastor/ Preachers crooks or hypocrites. Doctors, Lawyers, and every other profession charge exuberant amounts of money and they get paid whether it helps you or not. Yet a man of God doesn't need monetary gain when he's serving the people?
I'm probably offending a lot of people, but I think all those tv preachers are ***, from this Dollar guy to those Osteens in Texas. I believe in God, but I don't follow organized religion. I feel like I can be a spiritual person without giving my hard earned money to send some pastor's kids to Ivy League schools. I donate directly to charities that I find worthwhile.

I never pay tithes to church I pay money to others like women who are single and work go to school and need a car, or men who are struggling to find work I will purchase suits for them and pay for seniors meds.

According to many pastors, prophets and evangelists Tithing is a REQUIRED 10% payment of your income in order to recieve blessings from the Lord. A donation is the 2nd, 3rd & sometimes 4th "offering" the church holds for the "building fund"(which is actually the mortgage on the church but Tithing pays that too), "mother's board" or other "incidentals" which sometimes turns into an auction..."can I get 3 people with 100.00...."

Some pastors will guilt and/or embarrass congregants into paying Tithes. I have seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears where a pastor has told "His people" how they will not be blessed and banished to Hell if they don't give 10%. And we have all heard stories about people who have lost their homes & utilities because they pay Tithes first. The church is an institution, therefore, ther is no need to lose everything you have in order to fulfill a need for the church. God doesn't operate this way.
This is reminiscent of the system the Roman Catholic church had going on towards the beginning of its establishment. Where you could basically pay for your sins to be forgiven and if you didnt have the money, it was a guaranteed ticket to hell. Forgot what they called it though, college Roman history was a lonngggg time ago.

Tithing was part of the Mosaic law which was abolished when Christ sacrificed his life and is no longer required for salvation. Jesus didn't get paid when he preached. Why should he? Wow, that's a shame. I believe every church needs to offer finanancial management classes to its members. And no matter what these preachers say, God wants you to pay your bills so that you can maintain your basic needs before giving to these churches. If you cannot tithe money because of debt, etc, then tithe your time until you are in a better postion. Um, Holyfield isn't the only one who pays his tithe. If he made $200mil then that's 10%. There are people that have paid more than that. Creflo Dollar was on CNN to defend what it is that he does, which he never exactly explained. He says that he runs his business oops; I mean church by the book. He gives the IRS all necessary paper work in order to track exactly how much money is coming in and how much is going out and where it goes. So he can’t understand exactly why the Senate Finance Committee would be probing him. He says they have all they need and now they are just starting to meddle in church business! And pray tell what would that business be?
Creflo and the rest of these preachers are getting paid big bucks for their sermons because as Creflo will tell you, pimpin’ the pulpit ain’t easy. Creflo also has preached that it is a curse to be poor. God wants everyone to be wealthy. Yet wasn’t Jesus poor? And wasn’t that by choice or was he cursed by his own father? There can only be so many rich people due to the fact that if everyone were rich then rich would have no meaning, we would all just be, since there would be nothing to compare it to. I thought that you were supposed to tithe 10% of what you earned on your paycheck. Evander had to been splurging his money on extravagant gifts as well as tithing. Back in 2005, when my family were in Lithonia,GA,Evander had a public family BBQ out at his house.He charged people for parking, food and to tour inside of his mansion.He was showing off big time.You would think with the money that he donated for tithes in Pastor Dollar's church,that Evander wouldnt be in such a financial hardship now.

DCstillhere I agree My grandfather was a pastor but he lived within the community he preached in. He def didn’t have a Rolls Royce or a jet and he gave back to the ppl in his church. I stopped paying tithes long long ago. I rather take my 10% and buy a kid some shoes or some food and that’s what I do, I started with my family and then with others in need.
I know a woman that use to go to Mr. Dolla’s church paid tithes faithfully and when she had a need the church told her they did not give money to members nor food but they would give her an outfit to wear on an interview. SMH

When you are a pastor of the church it's like having a job..to the government they get a pastor's allowance to take care of the need of him and his family. it's not your money that's going towards his cars and housing...it's the church you are helping maintain so that you will have a place to worship! Further, there are churches all over, and many of them do a lot for the community. Community outreach and being “stones of help” are very important to churches. Instead of attacking churches and criticizing what “they don’t do”, knock on their doors, and find out. I’m sure you guys will be impressed with their ministries and missionary work.
