my sis has recently admitted she started doing drugs at 14, now 33 yrs old... it's possible her and maia were getting high together since they were really good friends, who knows? and about being bipolar, you can't help them unless they want to help themselves. you can't force a grown woman to take her meds and go to regular sessions. i know this from experience and it just breaks my heart. i've become the little big sister and looks like i will have to raise my sister's baby before i even had the chance to have my own.

Why all the hate for black men because of the actions of 2 people? A lot of you seem to be bringing your own baggage to this situation. It's not a "dirty dog" black man thing. Look at Brittney Spears and how her spiraling out of control was more about the media spectacle than helping her get help. I have been through things and know people who have been through worse that haven't resorted to drug abuse.
Her Mom (BeBe Moore Campbell) was an mental health advocate and actually and in addition to writing books about about the lives of of African Americans black wrote a book about a little girl who copes with a mother who was mentally ill. She was also a member of the National Alliance for th Mentally Ill. I wondering if mental illness runs in the the family and if Maia is suffering from it too in additional to maybe using drugs.

This should be a warning to young black women every where because this is a shame. Her mother was an author who died a few years ago.
